By now Slayer has been around for over 20 years, and unlike many other bands (for better or for worse), Slayer has changed very little in those 20 years. I think the band understands that when people buy a Slayer record, they want violent and fast thrash metal...and that's what they never fail to deliver. This new DVD, "Still Reigning," pretty much proves that these guys can (much like a band like Bad Religion) play their songs live so well it sounds as if you're listening to the original studio recordings.

On the DVD they blast through the entire Reign In Blood album during their set, which ends with the band playing "Raining Blood" while being drenched by fake blood from a vast sprinkler system above the stage. The set is about what you'd expect from Slayer; the songs are played perfectly and the whole set is tight and intense. The only complaint I have is with the fact that there is very little physical interaction with the music; for the most part the band just stands and plays. This is most likely due to the fact that every member is carrying an instrument, but it's a small complaint nonetheless.

Bonus materials are ample, with an entire extra set of non-Reign In Blood live footage and extensive interviews with the band members. As far as picture and sound quality goes, this is a major studio release from a recent show, so it's obviously clear, clean and nicely edited.

The bottom line is, if you never liked Slayer before then this won't change your opinion, but if you're a fan of the band or this kind of music in general, buy this DVD; it's well worth it.

i can't believe no one's mentioned that tom araya is from chilea (meaning: NOT WHITE)

anyways, it's good, but there's not enough extras and if i wanted to hear this i would just listen to RIB (there's virtually NO crowd noise)

Wasn't aware that "Arise" was a cover record, back in the early 90's we had no idea that there was anything called "grind" Napalm were a metal band to us! Anyhow, I've made it no secret that I grew up on metal and didn't get into other shit until the early 90's, those records were just the shit I used to listen to in middle school.

He's talking about how Slayer has stuck to what they do instead of trying to follow trends. Slayer and Metallica were from the same Bay area scene, and Kerry King isn't the first Metal musician to say this about Metallica. Slayer has never been a band to worry about any kind of airplay, because there's No Way that's gonna happen.

I just saw Slayer on the Jagermeister tour last November, and the crowd was as crazy as it was the last time I saw them (at the Decade of Aggression taping in Lakeland, FL) 14 yrs ago. I can't say the same for Metallica.

"1) Slayer's cover of minor threat is "guilty of being white" not right. where ever you got that info is false.

    2) "guilty of being white" is far from being racist. Its honest. To pretend that there isnt hatred towards white people because of slavery is hooey. The song is simply, "dont hate me because of slavery. I wasnt involved" How that can be concidered racist is beyond me"

    1. the info i got about the song was from an interview i heard with brian baker/ian mackaye who said slayer had changed the last word from "white" to "right." i don't have the cd myself but i'm going by their account. or are they mistaken???

    2. assuming you're addressing this to me since i brought this up, i never said minor threat's "guilty of being white" is racist. you'd have to be an idiot to actually think that song is in any way or form racist. it's slayer changing the last word of the song to "guilty of being right" that seems questionable to me-if in fact this is even true.

To those wondering about slayer/nazi connections, Kerry King sported a swastika on his guitar for a while and it was featured in one music mag photo of him. The band is pretty obsessed with nazi war crimes (obviously, listen to Reign in Blood - especially "Angel of Death") and this was their explanation for the use of the symbol.

I know lots of people obsessed with Nazis; some of them even collect the artifacts/memorabilia, but they all do it from a position of morbid fascination and not because they suscribe to the fascist dogma.

Maybe I'm not in the know or being overly PC or whatever but what's up with Slayer changing Minor Threat's song "Guilty of Being White" to "Guilty of Being Right?" Not cool at all.

I don't think they could possibly be as tight as they are while moving around ala Ginn.

Imagine a Rollins-fronted Slayer... Or Biafra... Ohhh.
