Can I say this is the best live punk band ever? Yes, I can, since I have lost count on the number of shows I attended for Lagwagon. It must have been close to ten since 1994 or something. Whether it was in a small club at the start of their career or larger venues when they were making a name for themselves or at festivals at the time almost ALL kids wore their shirts, this band has never ever disappointed me.

These guys shit all over the lawrence arms. Coffee and cigarettes is sweet as on this album! this is a great cd but a cuple songs r missin well that i like but does neone no if bad astronaut is broken up??please email me or sumthin if u no for a fact cuz i rlly like them How come no one mentions Frenzal Rhomb in their top Fat bands?? Yessum it was Fat, War was the first full length original 45 or 46 was a bootlegs and bsides type of thing, they had a couple of songs from so long and thanks for all the shoes. Longest line was a ep-they've released a pretty healthy amount of eps on fat haven't they? The decline was a ep not a record-only one song regardless of how long it was. Lagwagon is the shit by the way, I haven't got this cd yet I'm lagging ass 'cause I'm broke. They are the shit live. Once Joey had a fucked up throat and he had us do punk rock kareoke with him. He picked people from the crowd and let the sing whatever song we wanted, it was the shit. He promised they'd come back and they did for like 5 bucks a ticked which earns them a shitload of points with me. Cause I'm in Arizona and it's hot so that tight that he did so. Anywho yay fat period fuck all fat bashers! nope it was on fat War on Errorism was their first real full length album with new material though on FAT. and The Longest Line... and I Heard They Suck Live 45 Or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough... My top Fat Wreck Chords bands(based on the bands material that was released on Fat and had more than one album with Fat) "Somebody mentioned 88 fingers louie. Their last album was golden. Pick it up kids, you won't be disappointed." Somebody mentioned 88 fingers louie. Their last album was golden. Pick it up kids, you won't be disappointed. I saw Lagwagon in '99 and they gave the audience the choice between Brown Eyed Girl (which we chose) and Bad Moon Rising. They also did that Drag The River cover which kicks all ass. i've seen lagwagon twice and neither time did they play brown eyed girl Like Me First and the Gimme Gimmes? You are an idiot Score is for punk bands who record a cover song on their cd, and then play the same fucking cover song for years at live shows. Bad Astronaut is still around, from what I hear, they are going to do another album this year... Is Bad Atronaut still around? I loved "Houston...". oh and speaking of the caper, Bad Astronaut 'houston we have a drinking problem' was the best record of 2002 (or was that 2003?) aside from Apathy and Exhaustion (was that 02 or 03?) Pully has always been 'meh' in my book, and this is coming from someone who had esteem driven engine when it was new. I personally think 'matters' is their best album, no wonder it inspired strung out to work w/ matt hyde. anyway, pully is cool, but their lyrics mostly suck and scotts voice isn't half of what the capers can do. and technically they are very solid, but can't touch the wagon in that regard either, especially the stuff on blaze and feelings. Lagwagon and Pulley basically the same band? Pulley technically better? Is there some totally different Pulley that I don't know about? Lagwagon are punk gods, but no one ever mentions Pulley. To me they are the same band. Pulley is technically better, but Joey has a better voice than Scott. "lyricality" HAHAHAHAHAHA "Lagwagon are punk gods, but know one ever mentions Pulley. To me they are the same band. Pulley is technically better, but Joey has a better voice than Scott." ""I can easily give you a list of bands to avoid: anything on victory, fearless, hopeless, kung fu (especially tsunami bomb)...those labels really have no reason to exist." Lagwagon are punk gods, but know one ever mentions Pulley. To me they are the same band. Pulley is technically better, but Joey has a better voice than Scott. "Endless Summer Days" and "Punk Rock Girl" are probably my fav Diesel Boy songs. That stroking cat song is pretty cool too although I'd replace a lot of the girls names in it. Most people dismiss Diesel Boy as a lame Guttermouth knockoff, but songs such as "Dear John," "A Thousand Cigarettes," and "Chin Music" were quite strong in terms of lyricality. I'd definitely place Sofa King Cool in my top 20 punk albums of the 90s--albeit near the bottom. I'd definitely place Sofa King Cool in my top 20 punk albums of the 90s--albeit near the bottom. Diesel Boy was the best...its a shame they went on hiatus. Diesel Boy was the best band Honest Don's ever had. Sofa King Cool is great. "New topic: anyone else know any really good bands that an old Fat Wreck fan would like but may not know about?" 1. dillinger four New topic: anyone else know any really good bands that an old Fat Wreck fan would like but may not know about? I'll second the Bigwig recommendation. Too bad Tom can't keep a lineup. "New topic: anyone else know any really good bands that an old Fat Wreck fan would like but may not know about?" The fact that Lagwagon is still this popular is the only thing that gives me any hope in the scene as it exists today. It's pretty rare to hear new(ish) bands doing good quality punk rock with some energy and balls. "wow. i forgot how popular lagwagon is. still . even after the grey hair "TOP Bands that had brief stints with FAT: Haha, someone actually ranked the Dickies over Dillinger Four. sigh i cant stand lagwagon Lagwagon is here _____ TOP FAT BANDS wow. i forgot how popular lagwagon is. still . even after the grey hair "Avail and Bracket are two bands i've never really gotten around to. from what i've heard, i dig them, but not enough to invest in buying a cd. i love HWM though, thats who avail reminded me of when i saw them open for the souls I got a free Limp 7" on orange vinyl a while back. It has something to do with how they sounded back in high school or something. Is it rare? Just out of curiosity obviously, since even if it was the only one made it would still only go for £3. "If they can make an album that tops The Greatest Story Ever Told, they'll officially be the best band on the planet and the album will never leave my CD player." I don't care much for propaghandi or good riddance you seem to forget snuff/ guns n wankers (for fat bands). I can't believe they didn't play any songs from the Leftovers cd. Fuck, why'd I only put 8? Oh well. 1. Lagwagon/Lawrence Arms (tie) Apathy and exhaustion is better than greatest story ever told, and here are the ten best fat bands of all time in my opinion damn that was poorly worded.....oh well I forgot Propagandhi was on fat... i'd put them on my right behind Jeez, does nobody remember Propagandhi? In all these lists of Fat's best bands, I didn't see Propagandhi mentioned in any of them. Sure, they aren't everyone's cup of tee, but they get a lot of praise from the "critics" out there. I'm not an idiot and going to say that I think they are the best band (even though I do), and better than your favorite band (that's all opinion). But they do seem to get a lot more praise then most other bands, when they release albums anyway! It seems from the comments below that either you love Lagwagon or you want to fill them with hot lead. Amazingly strong opinions for a fucking rock band. The guy down there is right, I'd put Good Riddance in Fat's top 3 of all time. Nothing but quality releases every time. 1.Swingin' Utters While we're on the topic of Fat, I'm sorry, but I really don't like the Epoxies. I know they're talented and original, but I can't get into it. "This score is for having news/reviews about punk bands on punknews.org for once, instead of stuff about Andrew WK, Taking Back Sunday, and MTV." Lagwagon is better then face to face for every reason ever. Lyrics, talent, the fact that f2f signed to vagrant and sucked some dick.....Im surprised no one has mentioned Good Riddance1)Lagwagon2)Strung Out3)Good Riddance honorable mentions Screw 32, Larry Arms, D4, the caddies, Against Me, NUFAN This score is for having news/reviews about punk bands on punknews.org for once, instead of stuff about Andrew WK, Taking Back Sunday, and MTV. Lawrence Arms CDs Am I the only one that thinks "Apathy and Exhaustion" is better than the "Greatest Story..."? I forgot about Avail..they need to be on that list Uh, Paul. Avail and Sick of it All are both on fat as well. except Bracket needs to be on that list...why must we forget about Bracket? And I really think Honest Don's bands need to be included in there since Fat and HD are one in the same. Throw in Diesel Boy on that list and I think we're good. I'm inclined to agree with paul on the top 10 "4.lawrence arms (this will someday float to the top, probably after their next album)" "Their website has been saying that they aren't dead for a while . They keep changing the wording, so it shows they are keeping up a little bit." Fat's strongest are definitely The Lawrence Arms, None More Black, and Dillinger Four. No question about that. I have a feeling Fat's roster is going to start looking more and more like that in the future. Don't get me wrong--I miss skate punk just as much as the next guy who grew up with it, but this is what's going on now, and I'm not going to argue with it. It's getting better and better. My Dad can beat up your Dad. lag> f2f clash > ramones meatloaf > blink182 volta > strung out face to face >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>lagwagon I like how this review of lagwagon has turned into worship of the lawrence arms and D4. if you don't like the band reviewed, just discuss a better one. The Larry Arms are slightly outclassed by D4. As much as I think these two bands are currently the most unique in punk rock, D4 have that little extra something special. It might be the distortion, or the vocals slightly buried in the mix...whatever. These guys are the definiton of punk rock. Dillinger Four is killer, but what about Larry, Against Me!, and Nmb? its a tough tough call, represent the gandhi as well! Score is for The Larry Arms and Strung Out The Lawrence Arms>all other bands. still. Let's build on this: are you kidding? what the hell was wrong with How To Ruin Everything>? Dillinger Four is the best band on Fat. Anyone who disagrees has a low IQ. hey now, i'm under 21 and Lagwagon has been one of my favorite bands ever since i heard them years and years ago when i was in the 8th grade. and i'm afraid that: Hey i love limp too, and I also bought their most recent album. Pop and Disorderly and Fine Girl are the shiiiiiiiit! Them and Lagwagon were my two fav bands for most of high school. Good times. damn..Ive been missing some good posts..getting all nostalgic about ska and shit, Pop and Disorderly, going to shows and not worrying about image...(like I care about image anyway..) Good times yeah...I keep checkin if limp is coming back...the Fine Girl EP is killer Score is for Bloofy. Herpes carrier extradonaire. Whoa whoa WHOA! Paul, I care about your opinion, only because you like Limp and I think we are the only two people who bought the last Limp LP. Yeah no cares about your opinion since we're all voicing opinions that no one cares about, heres mine "haha i got the limp reference, nice. What ever happened to limp? Cause pop and disorderly, guitarded, and that fine girl ep were so good. And personally i'm gonna have to say that if your looking at their entire careers as track records lagwagon is better than face to face" I would take FACE TO FACE over LAGWAGON any day "no, lagwagon was not, is not and never will be better than face to face." The best band on FAT are the Swingin' Utters, dont ever forget that double plaidnum is second to Trashed for sure. Lagwagon - best band on Fat. (period) way better than Face to Face and all that gay shit. I guess we all have opinions. Like I said, Lagwagon has some AMAZING songs, but I can't listen to a single album all the way through. Trashed. There's the one album that beats both Don't Turn Away and Big Choice. Tell me ONE Lagwagon album that can compare the "Big Choice" or "Don't Turn Away".... Tell me ONE Lagwagon album that can compare the "Big Choice" or "Don't Turn Away".... Lagwagon over Face to Face anyday. Period. Face to Face kicks the shit out of Laggywaggy Lagwagon over Face to Face anyday. Period. no, lagwagon was not, is not and never will be better than face to face. Hey, I was at the shows. I know no one asked, but some of the songs I can remember that were played, but did not make the album were "Mr. Coffee" (although they have the live footage of it), "Brown Eyed Girl," "27," "Today," "E Dagger," "Dancing the Collapse," and "I Must Be Hateful." haha i got the limp reference, nice. What ever happened to limp? Cause pop and disorderly, guitarded, and that fine girl ep were so good. And personally i'm gonna have to say that if your looking at their entire careers as track records lagwagon is better than face to face. An insult from an idiot... how irrelevant. And your mom's tits sag. NUFAN - music for the tone deaf. "more betterness is better than blaze, i'll say that. hard rock bottom is not." Cape is a better songwritter than Keith, I'll give him that, but overall, Face to Face's music (arrangements, etc) was better. "Paul--- the songs on hard rock bottom that are good, are amazing, but theres like 4 or 5 songs on it i skip (insecurity alert is really trite, angela is kinda lame, the duet cover thingy is lame) "Lagwagon couldnt carry Face To Face's amps. " This record makes me wanna fuck. Not the best Live In A Dive album in the series (still a toss-up between Sick Of It All and Subhumans) but arguably the most fun. I remember Joey Cape doing his nifty exercise moves out on the stage. Also, Dave Raun plays excellent in this recording. It's sad they didn't include "Mr. Coffee" (the live performance of the song is in the enhanced portion of the CD though) or "One Thing To Live" but still is a great tracklist that shouldn't disappoint any Lag fan. I think this guy can't sing worth a shit. His voice is like a dentist's drill in my freakin' ear. I L♥VE TO HAVE FUN& PRTY!! {{-¼Of TheSCH lagwagon rules a lot Wow. I just got it and listened to the whole thing. Amazing. "Fuck everyone dissing NUFAN. Hard Rock Bottom was a lot faster than Blaze. " Lagwagon couldnt carry Face To Face's amps. Fuck everyone dissing NUFAN. Hard Rock Bottom was a lot faster than Blaze. "And I think that this is the best live in a dive yet, altghough I really liked the swingin utters one even though it seemed to go fairly unnoticed." i've only heard the mp3 of fat wreck's site but i've listened to it a hundred times...too poor to buy this cd the neighbours have been stoked Lagwagon is fucking awful. as for swingin utters I just wish they would have played stupid lullubies, cause that song is so damn good. Paul--- lagwagon > no use for a name. To the person waaaaaaaaaaay down.....no i'm not an indy/art-core prick, but whenever I normally champion Fat Wreck people slate me. But I love the punk rock, worry ye not. Sorry to stray from the subject, but does anyone know if Good Riddance is ever going to do anything again? Only Crime's not bad, but I'd much rather have Russ spending more time with Good Riddance. lagwagon > no use for a name. I like the new album of UL.. "I don't think it takes a review to tell that the new Unwritten Law totally sucks." This album absolutely rips. Best live disc I own. Man, Paul, we're one in the same. Remember when it was just music, and you could....gasp....go to a show and laugh and smile without worrying about and image? "i got you beat...my cover of apathy and exhaustion says "thanks for the weed-neil" and "thanks for the floor space-brenden" After "Trashed" Lagwagon got more and more generic, and more and more like NUFAN. I can totally understand why kids who like Rufio wouldn't listen to Lagwagon... just like I can understand why kids who listen to whatever's next won't know Rufio. Because they're second rate bands riding on the coattails of much better bands. oh and i wasn't saying there was anything wrong w/ ska, just that it ruled the scene at the time. believe me, i have 2 pages in my concert scrapbook dedicated to ska, highlights include "Paul - Too bad you can't see me, because you'd probably tack on an extra 100 points for the Lawrence Arms sweatshirt I'm wearing right now, hahahaha." I could skank like a madman. pickitup pickitup! Ska made young white kidsthink they could dance. "when i was 16, ska ruled the scene. picture it. " I had to sit through Rufio and Yellowcard a couple years ago just to see Lagwagon at the Metro in Chicago. All the little kids were going nuts for those two shitty bands and the quote that I heard from this kid was awful....."Who the hell is Lagwagon and why would they headline over Rufio?" Kids don't even listen to Lagwagon anymore, what a sad sad world. "And I think that this is the best live in a dive yet, altghough I really liked the swingin utters one even though it seemed to go fairly unnoticed." I don't think it takes a review to tell that the new Unwritten Law totally sucks. Where is the new Unwritten Law review? Paul - Too bad you can't see me, because you'd probably tack on an extra 100 points for the Lawrence Arms sweatshirt I'm wearing right now, hahahaha. theres nothing wrong with ska! And I think that this is the best live in a dive yet, altghough I really liked the swingin utters one even though it seemed to go fairly unnoticed. "when i was 16, ska ruled the scene. picture it. " corpseofmymotivations... "joey cape is the man. bad astronaut is a fucking work of art." "PS I love Fat Wreck. There, I said it..." You kids must drink drain-o or something, the SOIA is EASILY the best Live in a Dive. Man, I really can't wait till this comes in the mail. I'm so fucking psyched for this. It'll be hard to top Strung Out's though. I'm torn on listening to this cd. I personally like lagwagon alot and think all of their albums are great, and this live cd sounds great. But the first thing I noticed was that it does sound perfect, and was wondering if it was even necessary. I personally like the slopiness, craziness, and just all around randomness of a live show, because I think it's supposed to be a totally different experience than the album. But the more I listened to it I noticed changes, although subtle, and joey says many a funny things. I think more than anything this is just nice to have as a greatest hits of lagwagon (although I agree, why no bye for now?). In conclusion though, I like it, alot. This is a hell of a band with a hell of a lot of talent. Great lyrics, great melodies, funny guys. ps. do the kids even know who these guys are? i'm 24, i'm wondering if anyone under 21 listens to lagwagon anymore. joey cape is the man. bad astronaut is a fucking work of art. it's ironic that people talk about how old Lagwagon is when Bad Religion still out there playing. And what about ALL/Descendents? Not that there's anything wrong with that. First four albums in the best 30 albums of all time? Shwhat? Lagwagon rules. yes they are underrated. yes, joey cape is an overlooked genious that too often gets lumped in w/ 'mindless skate punk pennywise, dude brah bands' but their is a hell of a lot more depth and variety to the wagon than most skate punk bands, especially lyrically, but musically they do some impressive shit in their later releases. and of course, joey's voice is one of the most endearing in punk. "do these guys get up on stage with crutches and walkers....oooollllldddd... " "Trashed, Hoss, and Double Plaidinum were the only albums that ever really stuck with me. This is fantastic too.' I think i could have come up with that review.... Not as good as Strung Out's, but then again.. what is? An 8? Are you kidding? This is a band with ONE good record (Trashed)! What are the new songs like? score's for ugly duckling Trashed, Hoss, and Double Plaidinum were the only albums that ever really stuck with me. This is fantastic too. Is it just me, or is Joey Cape a sexy beast? Not only is Let's Talk About Feelings Lag's best album, it is, by a country mile, the best album of all time. Why anyone could ever prefer Double Plaidinum to that is beyond me. i tried to pick this up at tower at midnight but they didnt get it. fucks. but i bought ugly duckling and immortal technique instead, so its cool. ill get this eventually, track list looks good, plus they play burn! "Can I say this is the best live punk band ever? Yes, I can, since I have lost count on the number of shows I attended for Lagwagon." They should have called this "Live at Motor Studios." do these guys get up on stage with crutches and walkers....oooollllldddd... Wasn't this recorded in spring of '04 or am I way off? I wish they would have included their cover of "Want" and a few more songs off of "Blaze." Otherwise, the tracklisting looks badass. Can't wait to hear it! This is the 2nd best Live in a Dive, with the No Use one coming before. i listen to the No Use more then there albums. This is a great live album. The tracklisting is awesome, the vocals and guitar solos are the bomb, it doesnt get much better than this. Clearly the most underrated band in history, excluding the mesozoic era of course. never seen lagwagon live, but this album makes me want to. really well done live disc. |
