Wow, this is an awful album. I loved Rodeo And Picasso, and surprisingly enjoyed the French EP even more. But this they really can't be serious about. I cannot picture another scenario other than all 4 members of the band plus Rory Phillips sitting around laughing about how big of a joke this album is. It's a good laugh, I'll give it that. But that's the short version. You want details? Here they are...

The album kicks off with "Night Of The Creeps," a very Recover-esque rock tune that ends with a few "nah nah's." Very forgettable, much like the second song, "Simple." At the most, it'll keep a Recover fan interested enough to continue listening, but don't worry, it gets worse. "Disappear" I had already heard from a friend of a friend that played drums with the producer's former roomate's nephew. The song wasn't bad at all; loud, catchy, and fun, sans the Cher vocals in the chorus. "Slower" and "Fuck Me For Free" are probably the best songs on the album. They're about half as good as anything the band's written prior to this, but no judgement yet.

So where are we now? Oh yeah, track six, "LA." With horrid vocals supporting an even worse batch of lyrics, this song really sums up what you're in for from here on in. I can't get over how bad the lyrics are. They're bad. Like, "Let's go have some drinks, find a girl, maybe we will fall in love tonight, tonight! We'll have so much fun!" bad.

It still gets worse. They decided to re-record two songs off their last release, which I can only assume had to do with the fact that they are two really good songs and it's a lot better than fluff I suppose. Way to pull a Mest. However, at least Mest was smart enough to leave the song or songs as they were, and not ruin them. "My Only Cure" and "Push Push" are completely butchered. The old recordings of these songs were great, and while I'm not one of those people that cannot accept the fact that the older recording is sometimes going to be the weaker one, I can confirm that these songs literally sound like demos at this point.

"Crashed" isn't bad either, but there's a guitar interlude that rips off Clapton, so, next.

"Once In A While" is an acoustic ballad that lasts about 20 seconds, and leaves you in silence for the remainder of the the 2-and-a-half minute track. Why?

To tell you the truth, I didn't even listen to the last song but I'm sure it sucked too.

All in all, if you're a Recover fan, there's a chance you might still enjoy this record. Apparently these guys put on an awful live show with their love for breaking equipment and having long hair getting in the way of performing in a decent manner. I'm sure it always helped that their albums were decent. Now, I cannot see what they're going to do next. I know! Continue to be the quintessential "opening band."

    My Score:

They put on a bad live show? Are you fucking retarded? They are probably one of the sickest live bands to see, they just rock the fuck out and don't look gay as fuck doing so like most gay bands out. Go see them at Emo's in austin tx and you'll see what it's all fucking about. This guy is a major douche bag, it's incredible.

    My Score:

"Reco" is just a nickname for the band, chill out.

Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 10, 2006 at 11:28 AM (EST)

Is it really so hard to put the extra effort into typing "VER". Seriously. You are such a douche bag. I am just overcome with an uncontrollable desire to hurt you. I understand the value of abbreviation, but their name is 7 fucking letters long you moron. I bet you abbreviate NOFX too don't you. I hate you so much.

    My Score:

QUOTING: I saw these guys Wednesday night with Armor For Sleep and Say Anything. Out of the 200 or so people at the show, there were maybe 4 or 5 people there to see Recover. Everyone went nuts for Say Anything, then pretty much just stood there, silent, for Recover's 45-minute set. It was reaaaaaaally awkward.

    -Scott

yea, i saw them in cleveland and when say anything was on the stage there was this kid so fucking into say anything he looked like he was about to suck the singers dick.. seriously, but then recover comes on, we stuck over on the side of the stage rocking out, and then there was some other people.. but the middle was all say anything fans just fucking standing there. it was bullshit.. but RECO put on a kick ass show.

and whoever wrote this review needs to go get fucked in the ass because reco is so much different than all the other bands theyve toured with. armor for sleep should have opened for recover. and this cd is amazing. once a fan, always a fucking fan.

this cd is pretty horrible compared to the other stuff they have put out.

but the score is for the chick on the cover who is hot.

Oh wow, those Mp3s are as bad as everyone keeps saying. And, like everyone else, I'm a huge fan of R&P. How disappointing.

That is hilarious about them being the quintisential opening band...every time I have seen them they opened for someone else. In fact, I could not even imagine actually going to a concert to see them...

"You guys are all idiotic douche bags... this album is absolutely amazing. the funny fucking thing with you shit eating assholes is that you trash absolutepunk.net's audience, yet you feel like you have some sort of authority to bash bands and fans on the basis that you like outdated, shitty, fucked up, shityldfuihfsaj punk records that don't mean shit to the rest of the world. keep living in your parents' basements and sucking off your uncles and fucking your sisters.... keep listening to your fucking ape-like bands like the lawrence arms, fucking rx bandits, any ska-core/shittily recorded punk/ crusty fucking homeless music!! fuck it!"

that made no sense but was hilarious. recover is amazing just because and rx bandits are part of the outdated homeless music genre. goooood stuff

    Album is garbage.

Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at 2:17 AM (EST)
    My Score:

Sounds about right for the direction of the band. Haven't heard it, but sounds about right.

Score's for the reviewer for acting like a little pretenious fuck during this review and saying an album sucks because it sounds nothing like the band before hand.

Not saying it's good.. haven't heard it.. but this guy just screams "I WANT THEM TO RIGHT ANOTHER RODEO"

Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 10:04 PM (EST)

Lets hope this band dissappears this year. Fuck it, they should have dissappeared the day after they formed.

"Brian McTiernan is WAY overrated. "

he seems to do good work.

Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 11:40 PM (EST)

hey!!! that girl on the cover is that nasty stinky slut that was on tour with them all summer. She didn't put out so at least they got a bad cover photo out of her.

Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 10:56 PM (EST)

maybe you had to get this band when Rodeo & Picasso first came out. cos i bought that record after hearing good things....and it was a steaming pile of shit. i'm sure this attempt at selling out is far worse than their previous garbage.

Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 10:19 PM (EST)

you've gotta be joking...those fucking songs sound like ass. the vocals are crap and sound like they were recorded a mile away.

    My Score:

Say what you want about the record, but the re-recorded versions on 'My Only Cure' and 'Push Push' slay the EP versions. Brian McTiernan is WAY overrated.

I can stomach this record for the most part, though I was hoping for 'Rodeo & Picasso II'.

    My Score:

It really is sad. I was a big Recover fan and an even bigger Rory Phillips fan (still am, he didn't write this shit) but I can't say I feel the same anymore. Funny thing is that I like the last track the most. It's straight up catchy and really does make me want to sing along. I thought I liked this album for a week or two then I realized that this album is most likely the biggest disappointment for me in many years.

Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 6:11 PM (EST)

these guys headlined over Armor for Sleep and Say Anything in Detroit...though I head Say Anything was awful

Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 5:55 PM (EST)

fuck this band. and fuck rory phillips. This review needed to give the band less stars, but nice mest comparison.

Rodeo and Picasso was the last good record Fueled By Ramen put out.

"no way, this art sucks. that chick isn't even hot"

go listen to Poison you fucking meathead

Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 4:59 PM (EST)

Absolutely better than anything they've ever done. How many "scream the verse sing the chorus" albums did you idiots expect this band to put out?

Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 4:52 PM (EST)

this review is a joke, i hear only improvements to their sound from their past 2 releases to this. a better singing voice, etc. you're just mad cause they sold out, fag.

    douche, even

Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 3:17 PM (EST)

an attempt to name drop would have been a little more specific than that. it was obviously a joke you douch.

"'Disappear' I had already heard from a friend of a friend that played drums with the producer's former roomate's nephew."

    HAHHAHAHAHAHAH
What the hell is that? Who cares? This made me laugh pretty hard, since it sounds like a lame attmept to name drop or something. If you heard the song already, just say "I had heard the song prior to getting the album"...nobody cares that you heard it because your friend's friend's friend's friend's friend's cousin's second cousin's uncle's wife one said hello to someone in Recover.

    Alright album.

no way, this art sucks. that chick isn't even hot. Forgive austin, cause other than this band, that city owns. Eat at Katz's deli, it's the fucking shit. Or get some breakfast tacos at Juan and a Millions. That place cures the fuck out of a hangover.

It's not like I was talking good about a shitty band like mest dude, get over it. And if a person is actually thinking this is a good record, it kind of makes you wonder if they should be breathing.

    My Score:

this record is simply amazing. it's most likely one of my top 3 favorite records of the 2004.

when the person that reviews it compares the re-recording of songs to Mest, i kind of wonder if they're the right person to write a review for a great rock and roll record.

i felt the same way everyone else does about this record after loving R&P like i do. but i let it spin a bunch of times and it grew on me. the 2 times i've seen them live, they've represented.

    My Score:

I liked the ep as well and was incredibly excited for this release. I can't believe this is the final product, and I'm even more surprised that a "major" label was willing to put this crap on the shelves. Not only are the songs shit, but it sounds like they used scratch tracks for everything. The sound on the ep was so full with a wall of guitar and some decently polished vocals, but most of the vocals on this album don't even line up timing and intonation-wise. I had hoped that the mp3's I had heard were demo's, but it turns out that this was the sound that Recover was going for: Pure crap.
