Drive-Thru Records consistently puts out catchy emo-rock records, with Hidden In Plain View's Life In Dreaming no exception. Everything you could possibly want in a modern day emo release is present: the crunchy, melodic guitar lines, the raspy vocals, and the upbeat rhythm section. Hidden In Plain View does, however, play this formulaic style quite well.

"Bleed For You," "Ashes To Ashes," and "American Classic" are the most energetic tunes. With the lyrical content being the same old same old, HIPV manage to rock out while still maintaining a solemn disposition. Other tracks such as "The Point" and "Twenty Below" slow the pace down a bit, but it definitely serves as a pleasant contrast from the other tracks.

There's not much more that can be said. There's nothing new or special, but nothing terrible here either. One thing is for certain though: HIPV craft some pretty catchy tunes on their latest release. I'm sure they'll gain a larger following from this disc. I guess if the formula works, stick with it.

    ihateyoubecauseiwantto (January 15, 2008)

bleed for you is the only song i could listen to seriously. i couldnt even make it to the end of the other songs, just skipped them half way through. the music is medicore but lyrics just fucking suck. but what can you expect from DR Records?!

i love this cd! bands don't always have to be completely original. if it's good, why change it? it's all about how the music makes the listener feel, and this band makes my day. hipv definitely deserves more stars.

    routman21 (July 21, 2005)

    good cd

Chris this is one of the shortest reviews I have ever read, but truthfully is one of the best. I think Hidden In Plain View is a really great band but only in small doses. I'm so glad you didn't diss this genere of music like most reviewers do, that is so gay. I give this 3 1/2 stars with ease. Not bad, keep up the good work

PS- only problem is the song is called "Ashes, Ashes"

    Anonymous (March 23, 2005)

it's a hell of a lot better than their old stuff. the pop songs like 'the point' 'halcyon daze' and 'garden statement' are the best stuff they do. songs like 'ashes to ashes' just sound like bog standard post-hardcore.

They should keep the really melodic stuff going simply cos it's more original

Some of these posters have real anger management issues. If you don't like the band, fuck off and go post about someone you do like rather than post death threats to the reviewer!

    "Also, total fanboy review."

I'm glad someone said it. I can't believe this album is getting good reviews (mostly at ap.net though, no need to explain). This album is horrible.

    Anonymous (March 9, 2005)

What a terrible band. I mean really, really bad. It hurts to give them a try... Two of the members used to be in some NJ ska band, haha.

    Anonymous (March 8, 2005)

I'm listening to it right now and agree 100% with the reviewer. Good but not anything outstanding. Definately Drive-Thru worthy.

    Icapped2pac (March 8, 2005)

Jesus christ. I usually hate people that say this, but this is NOT emo (and I even consider JEW to be emo). I listen to a lot of pussy music, but these guys are even below my threshold of corniness. Pass.

    Also, total fanboy review.

    theundergroundscene (March 8, 2005)

i saw this band like four years ago and they blew

    they still suck

    and this review sucks

    Archangel (March 8, 2005)

    You both need new writers.

    punkcorekid (March 8, 2005)

Well, Crooked, I'm sure China is better at spelling things correctly than you.

    CrookedSuperhero (March 8, 2005)

Drive Thru realse RX Bandints stuff too, and their much better than you Chinatown.

    Anchors (March 8, 2005)

These guys played at my college last semester. I left after one song. I heard some lyric keys to the heart not fitting, and decided that even free, this show was too much to pay.

It was also very obvious that the lead singer wants to be Geoff Rickley, and can't do it.

    Anonymous (March 8, 2005)

    Best review ever.

    aznculguy (March 8, 2005)

    I realy like this!

    Inspection12e (March 8, 2005)

    Chinatown:

Generalizations like that make you look like more of an ass.

Why didn't you reply to the topic on the other forum where it basically says you are gonnoa get your mod taken away if you don't stop acting like a nazi? Kremert knocked you off your high horse fast didn't he.

I know this site has an obligation to cover Drive Thru bands...but if didn't, I wonder how many people would really notice or object...

    boba_fett (March 8, 2005)

all i know is that they blow live.

and im liking this no score option here. very nifty.

    Anonymous (March 8, 2005)

Who cares what this band or record sounds like? Drive Thru released it. Enough said.

I was hoping to see a more informative review than that.

    bemused (March 8, 2005)

I remember hearing their ep(?) a while back. Nothing special going on there. As for this, the review doesn't really tell me anything about what they sound like, and based on the vast majority of the Drive Thru catelogue, i can't see this being any good.

    Archangel (March 8, 2005)

I don't even know where to begin with what's wrong with this review.

    Kenjamin (March 8, 2005)

    try again.

    Anonymous (March 8, 2005)

The reviews on this site have gone so downhill. This review is so NOT informative. You can't just say its the "same old" hipv when i dont know what that is.

    Anonymous (March 8, 2005)

Great. So, what's it sound like?

    Jesse (March 8, 2005)

You meant to say that Drive Thru has consistently put out the worst artists of all time.

    Anonymous (March 8, 2005)

This is an incredible album, but the review stinks

    Anonymous (March 8, 2005)

    You serious, Clark?

    That review was terrible.

The album is very mediocre. For this style done extremely well, listen to Emanuel.
