Bassist Josh Moskoviz says the sophomore release from the Goodwill is different than their first album, which was "pop-punk." He says the addition of a new guitarist allowed the band to develop a sound for Insult, Injury, Etc... that "still maintains the poppiness and catchiness, only with a darker, more hard-edged, unique sound." Maybe I'm not getting it, because even after a few listens, it was clear to me that the Goodwill still has some growing to do before they fit their bad-boy britches. A number of the tracks on the disc feature aggressive guitar and percussion that, unfortunately, clashes with the vocals. Brian Barbuto strains at times to match the intensity of the sound around him, something that is most obvious in "To Live And Die On LI." The track features strong percussion reminiscent of Bad Religion, but the vocals don't quite measure
up. Judging from the band's MySpace site, the kids are really digging the
pop-punk sound, and it might be smart to stick with a recipe that works.

They are great.. way better than their last album, so catchy with the great lyrics and guitar work..........good job guys this really grew on me after awhile. i really genuinely hate every single fucking band that sounds like this Hmm, didn't realize the world needed another Fall Out Boy.... This album is truly horrible. what i will say is that the band definitely made a better record this time around. Score is for Erin Jackson, I think I'm falling in love. donate this to the goodwill. clever points are obviously abundant here. A while ago someone commented how pop punk bands fail to write good albums. If I think of my favourite pop punk bands, I tend to agree. At best, pop cd's are interesting for about 5 songs (unless they are being made by Motion City Soundtrack). This cd isn't even worth waiting 20 mminutes to d/l. nice simple review "At its best, this album is singable, girl-friendly punk rock that, unless you really crank it, won't annoy your parents or neighbours." And the funny thing is, all signs point that the reviewer is female. I don't know how I feel about calling something "girl friendly." It seems somewhat sexist in context. |
