Musically, Olivia The Band is reminiscent of bands like HomeGrown or Fenix TX. What that means is that while the parts are poppy and polished, they are also very predictable. You know where the build-ups are going, you know when the harmonies will kick in, and you know when the stops will occur. Yes, it is catchy, but it all just sounds way too familiar, like an album you’ve heard a hundred times before by pop-punk bands that just come and go.

Lyrically, let’s just say Olivia The Band is a little less covert about their beliefs than bands like Underoath or mewithoutYou. Lines like “Now Jesus is here first time around / He turned a cheek / This time around / The sword unsheathed / The battle fought / The war is won / Devil done / God’s kingdom come / Jesus has won” or “Sing along with angels as they cry 'thank you for life,'” can come off sounding heavy-handed and are sure to alienate some listeners.

Olivia The Band does nothing to improve upon a pop-punk sound that was established years ago. Instead, they just continually send a bucket down into a well that has long been dry.

get a life.. its fine for people to sing about killing themseleves and other people in songs, but suddenly its terrible when a band sings about religion

    die in a fire.......

    Anonymous (October 8, 2005)

Please grow up. Religon bashing is for children, or in your case, a bunch of unmature adults.

If saying "fuck Christ" or "don't pray in my pit" somehow makes you feel better about whatever music you listen to, fine. But realize not all faith-based bands, such this one, as bible thumpers. Their live show is pretty awesome, I've been to three of them down here in Diego.

And to the reviewer here, can we get some unbiased opinions? It appears the reviewer is more concerned about the faith based tracks than the music of the band. Other than stuttering out a couple of sentences about how they are just reinventing the wheel (do you see anyone doing anything different in music at ALL? Aside from coldplay, mutemath, and radiohead, I can't think of any off my head! Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, It's all been done before but are you bashing them)

I Love this new band. People have been bashing them saying that they sound the same as others but I strongly disagree. They have an clear raw sound that is very refreshing. Sure you can tell they are new but what's so wrong with that? I for one am sick of the rehearsed sound more experienced bands have. So in my opinion, Olivia totally rocks.

oh did u say fuck Christ?

ur going to Hell. literally u are and u will burn like you can't even imagine.

    jus a lil warning...

think about it. when u die... NO MERCY.

    Anonymous (June 17, 2005)

ok first. u guys who think this music is lame just cuz these guys are into Christ. think about if they didnt sing about Christ. u'd prolly think they were awesome. and for those of u who just dont like them..well then thats ur own opinion.

think of Underoath, mae, the showdown, blindside, etc.. etc.. these bands are also christians, but have people turned them away just cuz of that? NO...many nonchristians still listen to them...

so dont be ridiculous and just shut ur mouth if u dont like them.

personally, i just bought the cd for one song..saturday.

"Theyre the kind of band that preaches at their shows about jesus then fucks underage groupies backstage."

How dare you say something so sick about a group of individuals! Seriously you have something wrong with your brain. This is a great pop punk band and there is no doubt about it. Leave your bias at the door.

These guys are from hawaii and here people think theyre the fucking rolling stones or something. they used to play ska and a few years ago they got into "darker" pop punk. HA!

Theyre the kind of band that preaches at their shows about jesus then fucks underage groupies backstage.

"fuck. terrible. mixing bad pop music and religion should never happen. "

Whoever said anything about "Religion". Besides, we all know it's cool to sing about political matters and shove THAT down your throats. Seriously, Christian Bands have no rights. They're subpar, moronic, ignorant, close minded, intolerant, blah blah blah blah. Your comments are all cliches.

My sister's called Olivia. I don't like her or this band. I didn't really have a constructive point to make there, but I'm fucking bored.
