It’s pretty hard to take an album seriously when it begins with a soft-spoken woman speaking over a piano, giving directions as if it were a book on tape. “We’re So Far Away,” The Everglow’s first real track, makes me want to write a letter to Mae, suggesting they do a split with Savage Garden (which, y’know, I wouldn’t complain about). two stars? are you kidding me? two stars? are you kidding me? two stars? are you kidding me? fuck u sally and all you shitty fucks who thinks this band is all christian. I just love the guy who takes the attitude of "I hate Christians and all their music." I hope some people come across reading this because I think it's really important. I listened to Mae like once or twice when destination beautiful came out...and just thought it was kind of boring and crappy, so that was the end of that. My freind showed me The Everglow about 3 months ago, and my opinion on this band has changed more dramatically than any band has ever changed my mind. Although i still dont like "destination beautiful" Mae has reinvented themselves and they even say in an interview that they consider the everglow to be their first band effort. I'm not going to get into detail, because most of you people will probably not understand it or want to experience what I think and feel and see in this album, but I'm telling you that this album is sooo much more than music. Mae is on to something that is really going to take the world by storm once people allow themselves to open up their minds. When I first listened to the Everglow, I was overwhelmed by the things i felt and the saw while listening...i thought i was kind of crazy, it sometimes put me in like a hypnotic state. The other night while i was bored surfing the web, i came across some interviews and bios on the band. What i found shocked me...i didn't even know what Mae stood for before last night (multisensory aesthetic experience). Anyway i highly suggest that if you are in touch with your senses and unconcius mind that you read up on the science behind mae's music and experience what happens with this album for yourself. it's just amazing. amazing. An intro and closer are important, but not so much that they would ruin a 15 song record. Both those parts are integral to the concept though, so I suppose if you found them too much to handle, than it could lower the score a bit... Suspension!!! Yes Yes Yes!!! Great Album!!! I beg to differ with the persons comment about "the everglow" being too much i can only suspect she has not enough staying power for something so deep and so beautiful, the piano is turned up a lot more on this album and after seeing them live supporting coheed and cambria on tour last week i can see why. they are amazing and deserve a lot more recognition than they recieve. go buy it now, with the poetic words of the "sun and the moon" i was almost brought to tears. this is a masterpiece and on of a kind. I do not believe in a higher power, and I have no problem at all loving this album. I love consept (spelling?)-albums, and the music on this is so good. Painless and The Ocean are ridicously catchy without being cheesy. whoever this anonymous jerk is can go to hell! I know alot of christian music sucks, and being a christian, lover of music, i am disappointed. but to substitute, there is starflyer 59, joy electric, showbread, mewithoutyou, and more. so stop acting so immature by insulting something you know nothing about. I'm sure you haven't even graduated high school. Fuck this band and all of you goddamned Christians. Not only are these geeks stupid for loving a nonexistent god, their music is Dawson's Creek bullshit. Maybe what everyone needs to do is learn to appreciate music. this is a really good band and a really good album. fuck everyone who disagrees - they're all trendy fucks anyway i actually do enjoy the album, and everyone can disagree to this and comment about how i have shitty taste in music, but that would be absolutely false.. I'm not the one that made that comment, but just a heads up, you might want to keep holding that shift key while you hit the 1 key if you want 7 exclamation marks and not 5 exclamation marks and two 1's. And wouldn't two or three exclamation marks really have made a sufficient point? an ocean does need the waves, otherwise its not an ocean, its still water...this album is amazing, i got a copy about a month before it came out and didnt stop listening to it, still havent. "Does the ocean really need waves? I always thought it made the waves . . ." i like it when punknews gets to its roots and makes fun of bands. "omg. Your comment was like, almost as long as my review!11" This sucks and so do most of you. tides are caused by the moons gravitational pull... the rest of that stuff was covered in "and shit" I thought waves were a combination of the tide, wind, and ocean floor/shelf? "Does the ocean really need waves? I always thought it made the waves . . ." The comments on this have had pretty much nothing to do with this CD. Last time I checked, the review was about an (albeit) poor record, not absolutepunk.net. Does anybody know how to braid my hair into cute pigtails? this band, as well as copeland, is terribly boring this review sucked. too short. "i don't know why you guys are hating on mae. they're on par with fall out boy... which means it is totally amazing." "That's one of the only reviews on the site that's rightly positive, though." i don't know why you guys are hating on mae. they're on par with fall out boy... which means it is totally amazing. absolute punk just suck in general, bunch of douche bags who like a lot of shitty music hey nice review, four whole paragraphs...i think you could have done just of nice a job by cutting it down to one senctence such as "hey it's emo, it sucks." i think it would have been just as informing. anyways, this cd isnt as bad as the review, and it is much better than the new copeland album which you kids gave a 9...wtf? these guys are boring. the first cd was boring and i'm guessing this one is too. live they are boring. part of my problemw ith them might be the fact that they start off thier live shows with a song about jesus. perhaps its not meant for my agnostic ears. if i ever start believing in imaginary men in the sky i'll give these idiots another try it's cool not to like a cd and all, but at least listen to it. the review was too vague and brief. you really didn't listen After listening to the new Gatsby's American Dream, I've decided that anything given a positive review by abolutepunk must be avoided at all costs oh and that ocean needs the waves comment was funny. hahaha, yes i am 24, but me dumb. After listening to the new Gatsby's American Dream, I've decided that anything given a positive review by abolutepunk must be avoided at all costs... though this obviously wouldn't apply to No Idea or Asian Man bands. - OC Paul is 24. Yup it blows my mind it is much better than the new copeland album which you kids gave a 9...wtf? hey nice review, four whole paragraphs...i think you could have done just of nice a job by cutting it down to one senctence such as "hey it's emo, it sucks." i think it would have been just as informing. anyways, this cd isnt as bad as the review, and it is much better than the new copeland album which you kids gave a 9...wtf? Nice insight Paul. Post again when you actually know what emo is. i recommend this to people who love the postal service and death cab. and dashboard. and the OC and doing laundry in a dorm on friday night crying over pictures of your ex boyfriend. that goes for guys too you fags. hahaha. man i'm sounded homophobic right now. i found this used (already) at the store accross the street from me (bonus location) so i got it for 5 bucks. the cd is amazing! yea the intro is cheesy. but overall it is so good. i wish the reviewer would have given it justice "Does the ocean really need waves? I always thought it made the waves . . ." I wish I didn't have to be familiar with a band's previous output or similar sounding bands in order to find out if it's something I might be interested in. It'd be nice to determine that from the review. Oh well. oh need less to say i didnt go on another date with her once i went on a date witha girl who said this was her favorite band. i understand how you could like this band, but how could this be your favorite band ever?!? makes no sense. actually scratch that, i dont even understand how you could like this band this is one of those cds that absolutepunk jacks off Does the ocean really need waves? I always thought it made the waves . . . this is one of those cds that absolutepunk jacks off On the first listen i foudn this CD slow and boring. But i gave it a couple more chances and now i think it is outstanding. One of my favorite recent CD's considering the shit that bands i used to like have put out the last year or 2 This band is a joke. hahaha so it charms the ladies but not you? what does that make you? Why is Sally reviewing all the crappy CDs? so it charms the ladies but not you? what does that make you? |
