Deconstruction 2005: Day 1live in London (2005)International News Reviewer Rating: Contributed by: Joe (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on May 3rd 2005
So Europe's yearly punk rock festival makes its way into England again for a two-day stop, the first of which is in the capital. About 10 bands squeezed into a 9-hour stretch within a venue that is probably the smallest to hold Deconstruction yet, the Charing Cross Astoria.

i was at groezrock festival which had most of the deconstruction bands plus lagwagon flogging molly 7 seconds rise against tsunmai bomb alex is on fire(they all ruled) and a few emocore bands that sucked like coheed and cambrai and from automn to ashes. Boysetsfire were the shittest band I saw on the whole night and I hate autumn to ashes so that's saying something. Every time I've seen GR, he's been very stationary. I still like them, but you get the feeling he's not doing it for the love. Every time I've seen GR, he's been very stationary. I still like them, but you get the feeling he's not doing it for the love. I didn't mean that Russ was standing still for the whole performance, just that unlike some of the other bands on the bill, he didn't really seem to be giving it his all. Both times I've seen Good Riddance I've had the opposite experience. Russ was really into it, stalking back and forth onstage and really screaming the songs. maybe Russ needs to approach the live show as more of a physical event, maybe he should stretch more and workout.....because he's just a flat out bore to watch. The music is awesome, but his live show is dismal. That's the ONLY reason I don't go to GR or Only Crime shows, I'd rather just listen to the record than watch it being sung with such a lack of intensity. The next Boysetsfire full-length will absolutely destroy. I can just feel it. Russ Rankin hasn't had much onstage energy in years. His voice sounds good and all, but is usually painfully boring to watch. Maybe he should try his hand at the whole "sensitive dude with a guitar" thing.. boy sets fire are one of the best bands of the last ten years, even if the last full length was missing something not melt banana.... 2002 was great, at finsbury park, with movielife, h2o, midtown, mighty mighty bosstones, and more, that year was fucking awesome even though lost prophets headlined. Why has Strike Anywhere lost all of its fire? Their performances now are so luke warm. i didnt go this year for two reasons - Yeah, whatever. Tonight: smoke or fire, only crime. and the mad caddies are awesome, especially smoke or fire, were palying with them in august. | Features
