| Alkaline Triolive in Cleveland2005 live show Review by: gregs See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on May 13th 2005
I live an hour away from Cleveland, so since the show was on a weekday, I knew I wouldn’t make it in time to see the opening acts. I’d never been to the House of Blues, so I was already a little apprehensive about what to expect. Walking down the street, people kept asking if I had any extra tickets, so the fact the show was sold out just added to it. And by the time I got inside and saw how fancy the place was, security guards all over the place, and TVs everywhere you look, I was pretty damn annoyed. There was even a bathroom attendant to hand out paper towels. It was obvious that this was quite the event, and while I certainly don’t consider myself a ‘holier-than-thou’ punker, I was convinced the band had outgrown me. I’ve seen them in concert about 10 times, ever since they were openers and barely anybody paid attention to their set. So I figured I had a good run. I’m a huge fan and I think they are as deserving as any band of their popularity.

not that anyone is really going to read this since this show was over a year ago. I just found this great site though. I was at this HOB show and I thought that it was excellent. It was only my third time seeing them but in my opinion it was the best. That was my second time at the Cleveland House of Blues and I found it to be one of the nicest venues I've been to. That's comparing it to Laga and The World in Pgh and a few other small clubs around Western PA. p.s he was that pasty! I saw them at the HOB in Cleveland. It was a good show,at least I think it was. I had the opportunity to meet the band the day before in Rochester, and they actually put my friend on their VIP list because he didn't have a ticket for the Ohio show. And to clear it up, it was right before Crimson (nearing the end of the two week tour, i believe) came out, and they did a little touring of the east coast. Alk 3's new album sounds different than their other stuff but its still good and their still fuckin awesome Alk 3 is fuckin awesome. DON'T MESS WITH THEM I saw Alk3 at the end of april in Grand Rapids, Mi. "remember when alkaline trio used to be awesoeme? like before matt pushed the satan gimmick ridicilously far. all they do now is try to be spooky. gay remember when alkaline trio used to be awesoeme? like before matt pushed the satan gimmick ridicilously far. all they do now is try to be spooky. gay I fell victim to double suicide! Crimson is the best Alk3 record since Maybe I'll Catch Fire. ok ok, THATS why that kid was screaming like he was in a screamo band...it was some 15 year old super senses fail fan, who i guess thought it was cool to scream stuff in the senses fail scream voice for no reason, like he's living the passion man...oh dude. fuck. man that was gay, really ruined the show for me. i was at that show at the world (which i must agree was a horrible venue...those columns sucked) ...probably the worst show i've ever been to in fact...overcrowded, about 100 degrees...the only good thing about it was the great opening act that outplayed both senses fail and alkaline trio...which just happened to be the loved ones. yea man, i was up in the balcony for that trio show at The World...it sucked because it was sold out (and oversold I think, there really was NO space anywhere) and it was hot as fuck, whereas HOB is air conditioned. The performance, if I remember right, was also just kinda sub-par...the set list was average and their energy was just 'eh'. And also, up in that balcony i was surrounded by 15 year olds...that alone is kind of annoying being that i'm kind of an older dude at shows, but the one kid I rmember kept like screaming shit like, acting like he was in a 'screamo' band or something...it was really one of those moments where you are embarassed for someone so you're embarassed yourself. Paul, I agree. The show at the World did indeed suck. Sounded bad (band, venue, both?) and it was so crowded and hot. I was all the way in the back , away from the crowd, and was still drenched. So I also have to give HOB credit for knowing how to properly sell out a show, because the personal space was definitely there. And they did a nice job of keeping the place nice and cool, too. the new album is quality ps . laga's brief and shitty replacement, The World, had a bathroom attendant. and for the record that venue sucked balls and the trio show that was there in that 6 month timeframe the dump even existed was not one of their better ones. "Paul, I'm 28 and appreciate a more sophisticated environment than most people. I've actually been to more shows at Laga than any other venue, so the HOB is definitely a little culture shock. Besides, I gave it its props in the end. The only reason I wrote the review was because of the way my attitude was changed 180 degrees by the show. And if we're going to nitpick, there's not 10 flights to get to Laga. And the HOB setup isn't that much better considering it eats up a good amount of quality floor space with that area where the sound guys are" Bathroom attendants rule. Here is all I have heard... *****yeah favorite band My favorite fan by far but I totally agree with the hit or miss comment in the review. The first time I saw them (a day before Good Mourning was released), they were amazing. They played all the old songs I wished they would like 'I Lied My Face Off', 'Clavicle', and 'San Francisco'. The second time was a total miss though. They played most of their new songs. They didn't play many old songs (maybe because they feared their new fanbase of 14 year-old girls wouldn't like it). I love their new stuff but it isn't nearly as emotionally convincing as their older stuff. No 'Clavicle' or even 'Maybe I'll Catch Fire'. I can't wait to see them with DBS and Rise Against however. It should be amzing. No only if they played 'Jaked on Green Beers'........... Alkaline Trio AND My Chemical Romance on tour? I've always been a fan of the trio (I even enjoyed some tracks off of "From Here to Infirmary" *shudder*) and this set list seems pretty solid. Sorry About That, Jaked on Green Beers, and My Friend Peter are some of my favorites. Paul, I'm 28 and appreciate a more sophisticated environment than most people. I've actually been to more shows at Laga than any other venue, so the HOB is definitely a little culture shock. Besides, I gave it its props in the end. Yeah, they did play "Jaked on Green Beers." show reviews on this site suck, no pictures, just some teenager cumming over his fav band, lame. I don't think this is a tour for Crimson since the cd isn't out yet, I think this is like a warm up tour. I can't believe nobody has mentioned Colossal. Those guys rule. hey greg, don't bitch about the HOB in clevo, that is a GREAT venue. try living in pittsburgh where we had fucking laga and metropol to go to shows at for years. completely shitty venues compared to the HOB. metropol had those big ass pillars blocking your view, and the bar...well, may as well not see any of the show if you're going to drink.. I went to this show, and it was pretty amazing. I would have to say that the House of Blues is the T.G.I Friday's of concert clubs(pretty lame if you ask me). Mike park put on a good performace. Overall, nice review, well put. someone making fun of someones intelligence might want to spell everything in their comment right......especially when calling them a GENIUS Isn't this the Crimson tour? So what do they do......play the two worst songs from the album. Honestly, I don't blame them for only playing a handful, but at least bust out the good ones, like Mercy Me or Fall Victim. "...but what was up with the dedication to mcr? was that supposed to be some sort of slap in the face (radio's lyrics aren't exactly friendly or anything)?" No one who can't pick good times to use commas is better than me. No one. I agree with the guy below. The one time I saw them they were wasted and it really showed. I know it's punk rock and all, but a certain level of professionalism is appreciated. Alkaline Trio is a disappointment live and on CD for like the last 4 years. Goddamnit. I can't believe they played "Jaked On Green Beers" and I missed it. Next, you'll tell me the encore was "Old School Reasons" followed by their acoustic version of "Snake Oil Tanker." The set looks very, very good. Scott, I realize this confirmation is from the same source as the review, but there is no doubt they played 'Jaked on Green Beers'. I typically listen to a comp a few times and then file it away for good. So I actually had to dig it out again to find the title of the song because I forgot it. irish_joo: No songs off Crimson? This band is dead to me (in case anyone cares). i've seen alkaline 3 times...not a huge fan any of the times. pretty dull, in fact. god damn, not that tyler turd again! you seriously need to stay OFF the internet. you are not in mcr, so get a life already! "The trio's Skiba is a fan of MCR so I am pretty sure it wasn't a slap in the face genius. They played Jakked on Green Beers!? Awesome. I hope they continue to play it live b/c on their Halloween DVD if you listen to Dan and Derek's commentary they said that they don't ever play it b/c its too fast. I'm glad to hear thats changed. They had better play Jaked on Green Beers when I see them at the 930 club. They seriously never play it. The trio's Skiba is a fan of MCR so I am pretty sure it wasn't a slap in the face genius. ah thanks scott. The dedication to MCR was because Gerard and Bob were in attendance at the show (they were playing earlier in the night with Green Day across town). so wait, there were no songs off of either crimson? isn't that the album they are supposed to be supporting? I've seen them 3 times, and the only time they were awesome was actually at warped tour, which I found weird. sadly i've never seen the trio on a good night...my bad luck i guess. |
