As I Lay Dying's Shadows Are Security is one of the largest metalcore releases as of late, with a lot of hype from a lot of people. The question with hype is, "Do they deserve it?" As I Lay Dying deserves some of this hype, but otherwise, is a little overrated in the end.

I'm not sure who comes off as sounding stupider, the band's supporters or the band's detractors. "Ride your skateboards off a fucking cliff"? Haha, wow, please don't have kids, the gene pool really doesn't need to be dilluted any more than it already is. "I gave it a one, and it doesn't even deserve that, I'll give it a -100. Their name alone was enough for me to think twice about even giving them a listen in the first place. So I listened to them, and I hated them, then i saw every little fuckwipe in my school wearing the exact same hoodie of the band, and I decided that they, along with hawthorne hieghts, and pretty much every screamo/post hardcore band out there, is what is wrong with music these days. I'm sorry if you're over the age of 13 and still listening to this shit, and if you are... jump off the fucking bandwagon, and pick up some Lagwagon" to all the punk kids who talk shit about as i lay dying........ You guys are a freaking punk website so you can't say crap about a freaking post hardcore band ass holes!!!!!!! These comments are so boring, if you dont like as i lay dying why bother to write about them. what the hell? i *&%^ing love this band, too!! Personally, AILD is my fav band, they fucking rock..I saw them with Unearth and Slipknot and they just played like fucking mad it was a sick show. This CD is fucking awesome and to all you fucking fags trashing it go back to listening to your simple plan shit. if you dont like metal, get off this forum. blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,i like this band!!!!! thats really lame of you to like this record at all O Rly? what the hell? i love this band so *&%^ing much Good Album I think this cd is better that their last ....i mean they did take out a few more breakdowns which does suck cause breakdowns fuckin kick ass....but the addition of singing in some songs the singing gives the songs dynamics. and the sound quality is better, its got more bass and hits hard as fuck with the subs pumbin.. Confined is their best song to date in my opinion....either way this is a fuckin great band. have you guys seen crazy good ... dont care what anyone says .. this band is one of my favorites .. i almost completely disagree with the whole review ... i guess they're just not seeing the true greatness of AILD .. well it isn't Frail Words Collapse but it is't a terrible follow up album. they are still an amazingly talented band who can bring forth some good ass kickin metal! And don't even say that all the songs sound the same fuckers, have you even listened to it? Tim Lambesis's vocals on the new cd are great and theres no effects on them at all. And who cares if they are a christain band what does that matter, you dont have to cuss and talk about bad stuff to be a bad ass band. And if you have seen ALID live, they do not suck at all. If you think they suck then you may have something wrong with you. Only good band on your list is old Sinai Beach. Metal-core is either metal influenced hardcore, or hardcore influenced metal. For a metal influenced hardcore band check out Most Precious Blood or Terror, and for a hardcore influenced metal band check out maybe Hatebreed, or early Sinai Beach. track 9 is good, but track 10, better, b/c the singer from zao is in it. more of the same from this metalcore band that stands above most of the million of em out there these days, with guitars in the tradition of melodic metal and drumming that's even better than their previous work. Track 9 is my particular favorite on this one. Frail Words Collapse was beautiful, great to listen to over and over, and damned unique in how they sounded. i still dont see the logic behind christian hardcore or christian metal-core. Revised Score for AILD Track 1 through 8 absolutely rip..this cd hasnt come out of my player for like 5 days straight..Darkest Nights on repeat "for days" but fuck you for sayin to bitch about city of evil...that cd is probably my favorite of the year and for years to come...actually read the lyrics..and listen to the music you ignorant asshole..i bet the lyrics mesh with 90% of our lives.A7X fan for life...and Shadows are Security kicks ass too!!! what are u blatant retards moaning about man this is re-god-damn-diculas "as i lay dying - shadows for security" is fuckin solid its easily one of the top albums this year followed closedly by devil drivers new album and i think chimaira will blow them both but if u wanna moan about an album just listen to city of evil.....xxxxx That was the worse part. It's sad that the middle was kinda filler vocally and the music in between was filler ish repetitive, it ruined the clean vocals, swedish metal riffs, and solos, ok purchase for like $6 thanks to the Replay Card at Media Play... Music's sweet, backup vocals are catchy, but one thing I really didn't like about this album was the main vocal patterns. It's like he wrote the lyrics before they wrote the music and he's trying to make it fit. There is almost NO variety in his voice. Some metalcore is good but AILD isn't in that top precentile... hey crazytoledo, what exactly is metalcore? what are the parameters? what makes it different from metal aside from a bunch of scene kids thinking that theyre too cool to listen to metal? While I doubt any metal/hardcore hybrid is going to come close to Undoing Ruin, I think Shadows Are Security is still one of the better releases this year. saying this band is generic is like saying nirvana was generic because of all the bands that sounded like them. as i lay dying is leading the pack, and this is the best metalcore cd ever made. yeah, i said the best ever. to the dude below me, yes they are, though they aren't annoying about it like haste the day or anyone else on the solid state roster I went to go see this band, and they were good live, but I was trippin'... This is only my second post on this site and it seems evident that hardcore kids or fans of the music aren't treated with any respect at all. That's alright anyway... Anyway, just more of what ElVaq said, that your score doesn't really reflect how it seems you felt about the album. I wouldn't really give that high a score to something that is seemingly so copied from other bands and styles. It's the kids first review, cut him a break. Yeah! where'd they think of a stupid emo name like that. Every band has the word dying or death in it these days. Fuck this band. Overall, Shadows Are Security is a good album, but drags at times, is a little too generic, and doesn't sound really like their own band. I mean, every song sounds like Darkest Hour or Dead To Fall and even Atreyu with the Swedish guitar riffs and periodically clean vocals. This CD could have been better, but it's an okay buy for what it is. If you like this type of music, you'll probably like this. But if not, it probably won't convert you. Score is for the reviewer. Probably the worst written review i've read since becoming a regular visitor to Punknews. "Fuck this band" it's good, but not as good as their first. Its like they went and listened to a bunch of It Dies Today and Killswitch Engage cds and thought "hmm, we're metal-core aren't we? We should try and sound more like this". They achieved it but it isnt for the better. still a good listen though. I am so tired of metalcore. One of the better cds I have ever bought not quite as good as Frail Words Collapse but in my book no cd ever comes close so thats not saying anything. Too many good songs and not any bad ones lets me give this cd what it deserves a 10. If you dont buy this you are seriously missing out. Exactly what metalcore should sound like and thats why As I Lay Dying is my favorite band right now. This CD needs more cowbell. i havent heard this cd yet, but if you're copying darkest hour you know you're unoriginal. DH wouldnt exist if it wasnt for 'slaughter of the soul' |
