"Keep Them Confused?" Well, I'm not, as this is another brilliant NUFAN album with 13 songs that each could have been on any of their 5 previous albums on Fat (their New Red Archives late 80's / early 90's period was just from another era, though also great). No wonder they had Ryan Greene turning the knobs here again; it just belongs in this typical mid-to-late 90's melodic punk haydays category. And although some may want to move along, I couldn't be more happy staying with these catchy, mind-sticking tunes.

Amazing album, I think No Use have changed their sound so much since Incognito that it's almost impossible to have liked them from the start to now, I think Incognito is alright but they started to really get awesome when they released The Daily Grind, although my favourite album is Making Friends, and although I'd love another album in that style, I'm fine with the style shown on this album. I just can't get in to this one. Still an awesome band, though! you guys rock.. saw you in philly! Adam White writes Skrewdriver reviews but Brian is too afraid to post them! I lOVE TO SUCK ON NEGROCOCK dong huffer will is steve cole the bigwig copucar! terrible band. hang it up losers!!! i saw you guys in florida-love the new album..you guys rocked! come back soon.. The Backstreet Boys: A Popular Rock Band there are so mnany noobs on everquest now, and ya the other day i was chattin with this chick and was like hey wanna come to my dungeion and ill show u my dragon Pretty pathetic that the old bass player(Steve Paputsis)still continues to check in on this review and promote himself . It must suck for him, given how successful No Use have been and will continue to be. I saw these guys in Denver on Warped. These guys are so cool and down to earth. Their set ruled! I wished they played Part 2 though. Fuck off you Mexican piece of garbage. If I ever find out who you are, I'll wring your sombrero. great album. cant wait for the ep Awesome album. I'm gay. I loved it. I don't give a flying sh*t whether it's punk or not. If you don't like things simply because they don't conform to a set of rules established in the 70's that define the genre of punk. None of todays "punk" bands that I've heard sound even remotely like the sex pistols or the clash, or even the misfits, but I don't blast them as being not punk and shouting about how much I hate them for that reason. Shoulders with Young Yeller on this one. An amazing, emotional (not to be confused with 'emo') record. And they're not going soft or 'selling out' - they're just getting older. Much like myself, unfortunately... Damn. Excellent album, first listen seems kind of slow, but after a few... songs start getting stuck in your head... wich is good. I definitly advise you to go buy this album as soon as possible. I'll admit, my first listen disappointed me. Every NUFAN fan knows that they've been progressing away from the aggressive vocal style that made most of us fall in love with them, and the latest album continues in that direction. It's hard to get past that on first or second listen, especially with some of the slightly stranger songs such as Divine Let Down, but with repeated plays you'll find that the melodies here have never been stronger, the songwriting is still top notch, and there's actually more fast stuff on here I believe than their last album or two. I'm confident that any No Use fan will grow to love this album; it may not be your favorite but it's still classic No Use For A Name. NUFAN don't disappoint with this cd.It's one of there best.Keep them confused needs a couple hours in your cd player before you see its true value. best songs are It's tragic,There will be revenge,For Fiona and Check for a pulse. I don't know what all the fuss is about with this new record. I think that the people complaining about it are people that are stuck in the past. This is a great musical effort by No Use. This is a very mature album with great lyrics, some very powerful and melodic tunes, and really good bass playing. Some of the record is quite different than previous efforts, but it feels like a natural progression from the last recording they did. The sound quality is great and the songs mean something. Maybe I like it so much because it is a more mature album and I am getting a little older. But then again so is No Use. I have been listening to them for over 14 years and I have enjoyed all of their music so far. I think that anyone who has been into them over the years will really appreciate this album as well. awesome album! i found out about this band at Warped, and within a month had bought all of their albums! this one's my favorite! Pretty pathetic that the old bass player(Steve Paputsis)still continues to check in on this review and promote himself . It must suck for him, given how successful No Use have been and will continue to be. I saw these guys in Denver on Warped. These guys are so cool and down to earth. Their set ruled! I wished they played Part 2 though. I'm gay. I'm 33 years old and still play video games. An excellent CD from punk rock veterans who have worked their asses off for almost 20 years. I can't wait to see them next week. This CD deserves to get big. this CD is so good! i bought it at the warped tour after seeing no use for a name outplay hawthorne heights! they're so sincere, unlike most bands people on this site enjoy! By the way, there will likely be a rarities/comp. songs coming out later this year. This would include No Use's two late-80s seven inches, which are heavily influenced by Black Flag. It should shut up all of you morons who think No Use have only been a pop punk band (and over half the songs on Keep Them Confused don't even qualify as "pop punk," you salad tossers). This album is great. I dunno why it took GreenVandal one month to comment on this. I guess he actually cared enough about No Use to dig up this review and leave a comment. I hope you actually bought the album, FAGGOT. This album has really grown on me .. so many songs on this album is stuck in my head..once again, sly continues to write fucking catchy tunes Hey. Its a month later (i think) and this shit still sucks. As does this review. And im not gonna grammer check everything I do for you guys. Figure it out. this cd rocks.. no use= melodic but energic songs...check for a pulse, black box are my favourite... great feeling on the album.. is not so different that hard rock bottom or more betterness but no use are no use... they really kick ass.. they're the hystory of melodic hc with bad religion nofx and lagwagon.. sly's voice is fuckin' good and full of feeling.. lyrics perfect.. only bad things= not so original...... i mean 10 stars.. didnt realize the range was 1-10 :) I just bought it today! Thanks for the informative review, I agree this album rocks! PS- I fail at grammar Steve Papoutsis* here. Just stopped by to say thank fuck I saw the writing on the wall and dropped my bass duties for No Use For A Name after 'Leche Con Carne'. Glad to be sitting back and having a good time working for EA Games producing/creating soundtracks, while the ramining old NUFAN guys further cater to the inoffensive/bland highly strung, bass-less pop punk. I think it is brilliant! A true punk rock record by a band that has matured and only gotten better with every recording. How consistent are these guys. Seems to me just about every good band is losing it, but I still love no use (and cliches, they're so useful). I am lapping this up, especially 'There Will Be Revenge.' No Use are getting great reviews..check out this review as well pastepunk.com How can anyone think that "Black Box," "Apparition," "Bullets," and "Slowly Fading Fast" are filler-average? Paul, listen to those three songs thrice in a row each, then re-post your opinion about this album. after a few listens i still think the first 3 songs are amazing, track 4 is very good and the rest of the album is filler-average. The only time it's funny to make fun of someone's terrible grammar is when they sound like some conceited jerk who's way too pleased with their psuedo-intellectual posts (Eg. GreenVandal...sorry dude, that's just the kind of person you seem like to me). Other than that though, no one should really give a shit. Honestly this is a "punk" message board, does it really make you feel big to point out mistakes in somone's post? Fuck proper grammar in its stupid ass. (If I happened to use proper grammar in this post, its total coincidence, at this point in time the whole room feels to me like it's spinning). Oh and as for the album, No Use's last good album was More Betterness. If you disagree it means...welll...that you have a different opinion than I do...which I can respect...but people that have different opinions than me tend to be losers...just so you know. i have also given up hope on NUFAN after listening to this. Nice job asshole. oH mY GaWdDzZ!!1! "...and Tony is sexy." Great fucking album. Awesome poppy/hardcore melodies, cool production, and Tony is sexy. Chloé Jones is DEAD! NOOOOOOOO! Just got it on Tuesday, so I can't give it a solid evaulation until a couple more listens. I will say that it sounds better then hard rock bottom to me. But I still like leche con carne, making friends, and more betterness better, at least for now. I like the fact that they didn't do a full band version of stunt monkey, that would have been easy filler since the song was on the acoustic split. The instrument tones on this recording are great, but the mastering seems a little unaggressive and overly polished. I really like to tone of the krank guitar amps, but the guitars are a little low in the mix for me. Maybe thats why I like making friends the most. your reviews blow, the undergroundscene. fuck shiver, that band sucked. what a waste of time you name dropping asshole. Uh, did you guys not receive my review or something? Because it's a lot more in-depth (12000 words) than this one i havent heard this album yet, so i cant give any stars or whatever. If you likethe Dially Grind, Leche Con Carne, Making Freinds Era NUFAN check out a new band Shiver. www.shiver-music.com ok so another NUFAN album "hein is absolutely the worst reviewer on this site" greenvandal you fuckin' moron shut the fuck up. Wow what a great record, better than their last two. Best track is "Killing Time" but I love how they call every Bush voter stupid while following it up with a recorded Bushism. you best checkity check yourself Proper grammar has no place on the internet. Just remember, "your" is possessive. "You're" is the connotation for you are. Oooh, Adhesive from Sweden? I like them. Adhesive and pulley are the only two melodic punk bands i listen to anymore....this is horse shit. this review makes me lose a lot of faith in punknews reviews Definitely a major let down, and I wasn't even expecting that much after Hard Rock Bottom. They should just get a full-time Cello player if they're going to continue this kinda stuff. Just remember, "your" is possessive. "You're" is the connotation for you are. Average " 13 songs that each could have been on any of their 5 previous albums " is the reason i wont buy this. I liked NUFAN 7 years ago but i dont need another album of the same stuff. Some of us have moved on. I don't feel sorry for green vandal....that is the same guy who a while ago once said that new found glory could write circles around alkaline trio green vandal is that psuedo intellectual that is made fun of on almost every message board on the internet. I am shocked, SHOCKED, to see that "NoUse4aScnName00" enjoyed this. Bullets and Killing Time are my favorite songs ok, i've heard the whole thing now...and i'm pretty unimpressed sadly I am shocked, SHOCKED, to see that "NoUse4aScnName00" enjoyed this. Great CD!!! This thread is out of control. I'm a regular on NUFAN's message board and from the way people were talking about this cd on there you'd think it was going to be outstanding. It's actually pretty lame. Well said Hein! I agree, this album rules! Just because you're dissapointed in NUFAN's latest effort, does not make it okay to take it out on Green Vandal's writing skills. "you cant write" "your missing a pretty crucial piece of the puzzle" "I dont care if your their biggest fan ever" " If your going to try and debunk me" "dont resort to such a tactic" "lets all stop pretending we know what we are talking about" Well, all that stuff is real nice Hein....but you cant write. Considering this is a medium that requires a significant amount of skill in writing, your missing a pretty crucial piece of the puzzle. Giving this a near perfect score is....I cant even word it. I dont care if your their biggest fan ever, this is gushing fanboy drivel. Try being subjective for once. "Green Vandal totally owned by Hein" Green Vandal totally owned by Hein. I love this fucking album. Tony's voice is awesome and the drums are amazing! Thanks to No Use for kerping it real "Also. Get this kid off of staff. He has no fucking idea what hes talking about." it must suck not being able to write anything new for a decade. Im the guy below this is my proper score. .....i'm glad no use has not changed "Mid 90s skate-melodic punk is much preferable to the current emo/crying/screaming jack-tard shit!" "ok so you just described punk rock. youre on a punk forum. why the fuck are you wasting you time (and ours) here. why dont you go on and start your own fuckin band..." This is Tony Sly....i rock and you dont! Yeah, what's up with the autoscoring being back? Why only a 9, Dave?! This is Dave from No Use and on behalf of the band we truly appreciate your continued support and kind words. Thanks I have yet to hear this album but i am sure i will love it as i have been a fan of no use since the beginning and still love so cal melodic punk! So FUCK the rest of you complaining bastards and go listen to your trendy indie music! No use has been staying with the signature sound and thats why i like them...some thing should not change...Why dont you fucks just go listen to modest mouse, killers, my chemical shit..or some other 80s sounding band and shut the fuck up! Oh yeah...fuck off "So FUCK the rest of you complaining bastards and go listen to your trendy indie music! No use has been staying with the signature sound and thats why i like them...some thing should not change." "expressing his opinion is a thing. blasting everything that makes a single note, a sport that a love of people seems to adore here, is a whole different thing. I mean, there are way to express a constructive and intelligent negative opinion..." "I could say you're a 'douchbag' for expressing your opinion too." I have yet to hear this album but i am sure i will love it as i have been a fan of no use since the beginning and still love so cal melodic punk! Oh yeah...fuck off "oh, and the new album is incredible btw." "ITS THE SAME FUCKING BORING SONGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. There is nothing to this shit. Its plastic. Nothing funny, nothing revolutionary, nothing catchy, nothing new. Just some whiny jackass singing about absolutely nothing while his bandmates bust out with the same riffs they have been using for over a decade. And those riffs sucked then too by the way." "For the love of God, get rid of Ryan Greene. Look what it did for Pulley." Also. Get this kid off of staff. He has no fucking idea what hes talking about. This band is the epitamy of all that was wrong with that whole 90's cali skate punk scene. ITS THE SAME FUCKING BORING SONGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. There is nothing to this shit. Its plastic. Nothing funny, nothing revolutionary, nothing catchy, nothing new. Just some whiny jackass singing about absolutely nothing while his bandmates bust out with the same riffs they have been using for over a decade. And those riffs sucked then too by the way. One of those Fat/Epitaph bands I didn't waste any time on. For the love of God, get rid of Ryan Greene. Look what it did for Pulley. Wow, another pop rock record! Tony can't sing, it worked during the Leche Con Carne era, but it simply sucks now. "Ha, this album is in the top 200 albums over at amazon.com. That's a much better performance than any other Fat bands (with perhaps the exception of Anti-Flag ans NOFX) could ever muster" Could someone review the new Aquabats? this album is good, its fuckin silly but its fast and its catchy 9 out of 10?! Chinatown I do seem to you remember ragging on my Mars Volta review for it being, survey says, "way too long." I'll call him Heinz if I fucking want to you douchebags. Good sellout album. Way to go, NUFAN. Dicks. Get alk3, then murphys, then nothing. man now i dunno what to buy...i was opting for this over Alk3, Mxpx, Dropkick Murphys, Millencolin Hein is absolutely the worst reviewer on this site 12000 words of utter crap. "Mid 90's California Punk will always be #1 in my books" Why does Chinatown keep calling the reviewer "Heinz", it says "Hein". Please please please post Chinatown's review, people will that fucking thing apart. No Use for a Name is SO BORING! Ha, this album is in the top 200 albums over at amazon.com. That's a much better performance than any other Fat bands (with perhaps the exception of Anti-Flag ans NOFX) could ever muster. No Use For A Name? More like No Chance Of Writing More Than A Couple Of Good Songs Per Album. hein is absolutely the worst reviewer on this site " 13 songs that each could have been on any of their 5 previous albums " is the reason i wont buy this. I liked NUFAN 7 years ago but i dont need another album of the same stuff. Some of us have moved on. Uh, did you guys not receive my review or something? Because it's a lot more in-depth (12000 words) than this one. Heinz is pretty inaccurate in saying that any of the songs could be on their past 5 Fat releases. That's not really the case. The band has gone on a slightly more indie rock/indie pop oriented direction, adding tons of elements such as violins, drum machines, and synths. " 13 songs that each could have been on any of their 5 previous albums " is the reason i wont buy this. I liked NUFAN 7 years ago but i dont need another album of the same stuff. Some of us have moved on. hein is absolutely the worst reviewer on this site hmm, i can't wait to get this today. then again, i thought 'more betterness' was lightyears better than 'leche con carne' Jeez, are you kidding? This is nowhere near that good. Only a couple of good songs on this. If you want more of Making Friends-style No Use, then listen to Much The Same. NUFAN interview: I liked More Betterness a lot at the time so I respect them for that. "this band invented 'borecore' almost 10 years ago and they're still honing their art." Fairly generic, mostly overproduced. Only heard it a couple of times, maybe it'll grow on me. it's average, you can listen to it and slightly enjoy it. I liked more betterness but this and HRB just aren't as good. never was a fan of mid 90s fat wreck bands and never will be. NUFAN was the worst of em. bullshit, im a sucker for all the epifat bands from my youth and probably still give'em more breaks than i should but this album is one big fucking let down, boring as hell. the few fast ones are decent but still lack any balls or heart. the words uninspired and tired come to mind. Solid album. The vocals are a little overproduced for my taste, however. Excellent lyrics. Tony is not really known for his lyrical prowess, but I was blown away by the sincerity and vulnerability he showcases on Keep Them Confused. Bullets is awesome, and harkens back to the Making Friends era, with its blistering octave leads. Recommended for old and new fans, alike. Still no Death By Stereo or Hank Jones reviews? Good album, much better than Hard Rock Bottem. Standout tracks include: There Will Be Revenge, Check For a Pulse, and Slowly Fading Fast. "If it wasn't for Pro Tools NUFAN would have NO FANS" I will be picking this up. the person below me has it exactly right. fucking. awesome. |
