To be a punk band at this level of popularity is to wear a fairly big target. While the Dropkick Murphys' detractors are inevitable, they seem to be some of the most simultaneously vocal and hopelessly irrational around. The Murphys, tough working class exterior aside, have always seemed conscious of this. Looking back on their catalogue, it really does seem at times that they've made efforts to accommodate their dissenters and "fix what's broken." Whether this is rooted in genuine concern for the fans or typical artistic self-consciousness is up for debate, but with The Warrior's Code, the Murphys sound, for the first time in years, like they're creating for themselves.

not bad but not their best Fuck Johnny Damon. If I didn't already have enough reason not to listen to Tessie, I have it now. Apparently he shares gang vocals in it. AMAZING. best album in, well....forever. and anyone who says that the bagpipes are bad can go to hell. who cares if they're not irish. scottsmen, irishmen....all that matters is that is celtic (and we all hate the english...sorry, braveheart speaking there). Killer album. Although it was a little hard to listen to the first time, the 3rd time around I figured out how good it was. A few songs here and there are 'Meh', but songs like Warrior's Code, Captain Kelly's Kitchen were more 'WHOA'. What ever you consider good, this is the exact oppiste of that. I compare DKM to a dull knife. They were sharp on Do or Die, but then they just kept on stabbing away and never took the time to sharpen it. So now you have a dull boring knife with no edge to it that couldn't cut through a sheet of paper. It is really a shame because I'm a huge fan. I have been a long fan of the Dropkick Murphys. I know much about what they can do, as do all their other true fans. But Not only am I extremely disappointed in this album, but I feel as though they are trying to bring in a new genre of fans. With songs like Sunshine highway, I see floods of rich White suburbia kids who think they have it hard, crowding the mosh pits, wondering why we are behaving so rough. I will remain behind this band no matter what, 100%, but I am truly upset by this album. The Dropkick Murphy's weakest release, excluding "Blackout", except this one is good. The Murphy's, too me are better when they play fast, balls-out punk rock, not Flogging Molly-esque fiddly-diddly Irish rock. This alblum is good, but weak in comparisson to "Do or Die", or "The Gang's all Here". this is an awesome album and any 1 who opposes ill kik your panzy little ass! Very disappointing, the Murphys have always been great, but they stumbled on this one. "Sunshine Highway" is an embarrassment to all long -time Dropkick Murphys fans. I certainly never complained when they replaced Mike McColgan with Al Barr, after all, when you intend to keep producing top quality street punk, what better singer than the former frontman of the Bruisers? But now I have to admit that McColgan's Street Dogs are blowing the Murphys away. The Dropkick Murphys real roots seemed to be in street punk like Cocksparrer and Sham 69 and when they choose to re-visit those roots their true strength comes through. Bagpipes were a neat novelty in rock'n'roll but it's time to back off of that stuff. AC/DC had the sense to limit it to one song even though Bon Scott had been playing the pipes for years. And besides.... bagpipes are really more Scottish than Irish anyway. This album ROCKS! Much better than the albums released before... I like the Murphy's but this album sucks. What happened guys? The Pogues invented Celtic Punk. Jackass. DKM is mediocre. but The REAL McKENZIES invented celtic-punk, and are far superior... Get's boring after the 5th listen. I've loved these guys for years now.... This album is amazing Everyone needs to stop insulting "Blackout." The majority of the songs ruled; search your feelings...you know it to be true! I went to my local record store today with the intention of picking this up, somewhere between the time I left and the time I got to the counter, I decided to replace my long lost copy of "etc." by Jawbreaker. No regrets. I did like "do or die" and a few songs off "the gang's all here" but I'm reluctant to buy this. this really isn't all that great. unnessecary cover artwork... fucking skindheads with their sucking red sox baseball club... haha I got it yesterday. It's better than the last 2 albums for sure. The guy below me is soo hardcore like OMG! False irish pride all around! "Baseball isnt punk. ever." The guy below me is soo hardcore like OMG! bunch of boneheaded Irish wannabe tough guys who really need a lesson in pain. Go down to watts with your "prideful" clothes and your attitude and see how long your body stays intact motherfuckers. Dropkick Murphys - The Warrior's Code Wow Adam, I thought that you could write better than this. Just look at those first two sentences! Ouch. I like it. I think my two favorite song on the album is :the green fields of france." I guess that I enjoy the traditional Irish music. Beer will never compare to Liquor. Fuck! I spelled "hockey" wrong...beer can make a guy do terrible things sometimes... Have never owned a DKM album. Personally I think they're a bit overrated, but they do put on a good live show. I'll give them credit for having the smarts to talk about hocket instead of baseball last time they played Vancouver (Can someone explain to me why people find baseball exciting? Maybe I just had A.D.D.) I only gave this CD a quick listen so ill get to it later. Face to Face and Bosstones aren't around anymore and NOFX have always sucked, they only had one decent album. Good Bands-Bosstones, Bouncing Souls, Face to Face, Swinging Utters, Good Riddance, NOFX, Flogging Molly, and Murphys-they're just starting to suck Bosstones and DKM are nothing alike.. What bands do you consider good if these guys are "sucky" The Murphys are starting to suck! Everything seems calculated these days! I liked Sing Loud Sing Proud so I'm not a Do or Die Purist. They kind of suck live, Bouncing Souls blow them away. Everytime I see them, for some reason I compare them to the Bosstones and they don't compare. The Murphys can take that Sunshine Highway Smash Mouth song and shove it up their Ass! Actually the red sox payroll is about $100 million dollars smaller than the yankees. DO or Die was on Hellcat numbnuts dropkick this album!!!!!!!1 GO PIRATES! Baseball isnt punk. ever. Oh, and the dropkick murphys were a lot better 7-8 years ago Im from Baltimore by way of Connecticut, Go RedSox-oldpunker- Yankees AND Red Sox fans are all a bunch of whiners who whine about each other and think they are the only ones that matter in baseball epitaph is a major? "Just a fucked up fact. Alex rodriguez is in 1st place in the all-star ballot at 3rd base. Funny, the douchebag has made more errors than any other 3rd baseman in the AL right now . Bill Mueller on the other hand is not the power hitter rodriguez is, but is a much better clutch player. Read the fucking stats folks." Red Sox fans are just as retarded as Yankee fans. Your payroll isn't much smaller, and if you think your players aren't concerned about the almighty dollar, you're just as retarded. As a lifelong red sox fan I can honestly say "Fuck new york"...fuck the yankees and their $280 million payroll. Look where it's gotten them so far this year. Steinbrenner needs to get players with heart..who play their hardest no matter what their salary. These fucking egomaniacs that call themselves Yankees now? Fuck em. this band fucking sucks. always have. As a (casual) Mets fan, I would just like to remind all Sox fans of Mr. Bill Buckner. "I have MVP Baseball 2005 and this song is on there. I cannot honestly hear this fuckin song one more time as it seems to play constantly during the menu screens (I bet I've heard this song at least 100 times since April). Don't get me even started on the rest of the mod dance stuff on this soundtrack (the bravery, Louis XIV, Hot Hot Heat)!!" to the guy below These guys have become mall punk. They no longer sound like the bands that were their orginal influences, such as The Pub Drunkards, Steel Toe Justice, Soldiers of the Streets, and Forcefeed. kirby: look at the suit the guy from the darkness wears... i didn't know what it was either... bu i'm assuming the gay rocker thing from the 80's like he wears and fredie mercury always wore... Right on to the guy below me. I'll save all the punk news scene police folk out there some time and just do your post for you. Here it is- the guy who posted fuck new york , clever. but dropkick still kicks ass no matter what. one of those bands that seems more oi! spirited than punk. theyre hooligans for fucks sake! american hooligans who love baseball! i dont much like tessie as a song but there jus t doing what all the european hooligans do for football. the business put an entire record bout soccer games! hardcore hooligan! fuck off detractors. more like motherfucking traitors! i'd like to see any of you pick up a instrument and play this well. go suck your punkest friends's dick for more street cred you fucking whiny brats! I have one question... great fucking band. all their shit is good in my book. gay Do or Die and Gang's All Here are classics, Sing Loud... has its moments, but with a couple exceptions, Blackout! sounds like Dropkick as a Dropkick cover band -- it just doesn't have the originality or energy of the other three (or maybe it just sounds over-produced). I'll probably pick this one up if I can find it cheap. "What an idiotic comment. That album ruled, and to disregard an album based on a singer shift alone is ludicrous. Judge it on the music, not by band politics." "The Gang's All Here was, of course, a write off. It was the first album after the big change and the shock alone overpowers its particular strengths and weaknesses. " "wHAT????? You already have it? but then you say you may still buy it.... what?????" This is a nice return to form I think. And Hellcat does rule. Kens an idiot. Whats wrong with Hellcat bands? I dunno if this is actually irrational, but I kind of lost my love for the murphys when I heard the GC5 and Hudson Falcons split record. Here were two relatively unknown bands (at least to me) who seemed to have all the chops and energy that the murphys lost over the years. Is it alright to just not like the band because they're boring? Is it alright to just not like the band because they're boring? i got this and it was easily forgetable. now i am not one to wish for the old murphy's back, but they have slowly been sliding off of my radar lately. still, i will most likely buy this. i got this and it was easily forgetable. now i am not one to wish for the old murphy's back, but they have slowly been sliding off of my radar lately. still, i will most likely buy this. Just picked this up, makes you forget blackout even existed, one of there best-oldpunker- That's why Xbox's custom soundtracks is your friend. "There's not enough baseball talk here, damn Canucks. Even though the Red Sox just whooped the shit out of the Pirates, two games to one, it should be mentioned that the Dropkick Murphy's rendition of 'Tessie' is amazing. They included it on here, I wish it would have remained native to the EP, but everyone should hear this and listen to it before their summer softball games." If this truly is the best album since Do or Die (it is very rare that any band is able to match their first album) then I will have to go pick this up along with the new Unseen is there anyone else here who can't stand the original singer's voice, besides me? i wouldn't mind the first album if it weren't for the vocals. First a great review of the new Unseen Album, now a sales pitch for Dropkick Murphy's. If this truly is the best album since Do or Die (it is very rare that any band is able to match their first album) then I will have to go pick this up along with the new Unseen. Either these bands decided to go back to what makes them great or these reviewers have no clue. I will go to the local record store and find out for myself. Aren't Slapshots simpletons? this is my favorite album of theirs finally a punk album is reviewed here and surprise...itīs great The best since their debut? Wow. Now I'm seriously considering to go buy this today. NYC rules "Pussyfoot we already have one of you, his name is Jones the Bones. "Boston is nothin but a pimple on New York's ass. You could fit Boston's population on the N train during rush hour. There were more people on 3 city blocks to watch the Mets parade down Broadway iin '86 than there are in Boston. With that said, this album and the Murphys kick ass." Pussyfoot we already have one of you, his name is Jones the Bones. wow pussyfoot is gaurding this thread going to reply to everything he doesnt agree with. "MASSHOLE ALERT! man, you people never shut-up do you? little fucking pussies with your inane inferiority complex. what's it like to have penis-envy on a metropolitan level? you beat the yankees and you still feel the need to talk shit, just like the children you are. go help out with the 'big-dig' or whatever neanderthal shit you dumb fucks do for fun. oh, and tell the masshole girls to shave their pussies, that shit always smells rank." And why don't they just kick the singer out, everytime i've seen them play the bass player sings like half of every song. slapshot forgot to fuck chinatown. fuck them. WOW Adam, nice review. i am bored as fuck and people from boston smell This is a great CD. It seems like they've taken a little everything (the likeable parts) from all their previous efforts and mixed them together for this release. My favorites are the first 2 tracks. So, so catchy, Boston is nothin but a pimple on New York's ass. You could fit Boston's population on the N train during rush hour. There were more people on 3 city blocks to watch the Mets parade down Broadway iin '86 than there are in Boston. With that said, this album and the Murphys kick ass. Start spreading the news, because it's in your face i fucking love this album and the murphys. so glad when i first heard this, because i feared that they were going to continue that slide they went on with Blackout. Green Feilds of France or Auld Lange Sang are probally my favorites on the cd, but about the whole thing kicked ass beisdes Tessie. that song is just annoying. i'd agree w/ Chinatown. Not quite as good as Sing Loud, Sing Proud, but much much better than Blackout! Fuck Mickey Ward. Seriously. Total garbage, just like the soon-to-be-destroyed Arturo Gatti. |
