| Alkaline Trio / Rufio / Thieves Like Uslive in Norfolk2005 live show Review by: yayforapathy See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on July 5th 2005
I was anxiously awaiting this show for 3 months. I have been a fan of Alkaline Trio since I first got into them. Although the band's last couple of albums were subpar compared to their originals on Asian Man (don't get me wrong, Good Mourning and Crimson are still VERY good) and I was iffy about the opening acts, I figured that this would be a good show to check out.

The crimson tour was the third alkaline trio show i saw in montreal (saw my fourth one just a few days ago :D ). The show had very poor sound (Club Soda) but it was still enjoyable. There are many people who are complaining about how many Crimson songs there was. This makes sense as the tour was pretty much a promo of the album which had just came out. I found there was a good selection of older songs as well, its just i realised that they were obviously going to play songs off the newest album. For those who were dissapointed though, the latest concert was a blast, best trio show ever.Goddamnit is a great album. This is the reviewer. Sorry about the horrible review, i do admit it sucked. I will never again write anything on 3 days of no sleep. "Have they ever played "She Took Him To The Lake" live?" "I've been a fan of Alkaline Trio since I first got into them" you mean guys pretending to be Catch 22. Beeeesides, Zolof The Rock and Roll Destroyer is on the tour, which is awesome. Alk 3: YAY Reel Big Fish and Catch 22 on the 17th. Beat that. The Trio needs to release another collection cd with all of their comp/b sides/7" songs, then make an acoustic "greatest hits" and call it a day. This review was awful. Both opening bands were fucking garbage, Dan hit at least 3 sour ass bass notes, Skiba can't sing 'cause he's coked up, and the last song wasn't blue in the face, it was a meddly of 3 or 4 songs strung together starting out with Blue In The Face. They also played Jaked on Green Beers, but that is really irrelavent as this review makes me completely indifferent towards wanting to see them anymore. ya what about "I was iffy about the opening acts, I figured that this would be a good show to check out." "And what's the deal with making Dan, who's responsible for only 25% of their songs, play 50% of their show playlist? I like them both, but shouldn't their live show be commensurate with their catalog (i.e. Dan only playing 30% of their songs)? Matt needs to stop being so lazy." Oh and I checked out that band, pretty solid stuff. Maybe I'll get a chance to see them when I'm in Miami. Was that WTPY show in Miami? The one with Tunes For Bears To Dance To? I think my cousin went to that, I'll have to ask him how it was. i hate you anchors i would see it too but im going to be on a trip..... i just got back from the show wtpy was amazing so was ten and two....try to check out dead lions on myspace I went to the first Philly show at the TLA and left disappointed. It was only partly Alk3's fault though; there were equipment/sound problems throughout. Specifically, Matt's guitar was so low, you couldn't hear a single note for the first three songs. Even when they rectified it, it still was hard to hear. Secondly, Dan's mike constantly went in and out. He'd be singing fine, then all of the sudden you'd hear no vocals but still see him singing on stage. It was like the opposite of what happened to Ashlee Simpson on SNL. I'll top that. "I have been a fan of Alkaline Trio since I first got into them." Did you honestly think this was a good sentence? What a horrible review! When the fuck else would you have become a fan? Please never review again, I just got dumber. i'm seeing welcome the plague year and dead lions tonight... i dare someone to beat that Larry Arms tore it up in SF last night . . . First off, I'm not really a fan of their music, but I am a fan of their reviews on pn.org. Give yourself a round of applause. This is a rare example of a review inadvertantly making me laugh out loud. Although my first review was also shitty, and I haven't progressed much, so I shouldn't really say anything... Saw them in Milwaukee, the show was ok but whats worse is that my friends went to the show in chicago and they played the same set verbatim! I lost a lot of respect for this band. i was at this show... they played jaked on green beers...and every one went nuts. I would have liked to hear "Warbrain" and "Jaked on Green Beers". score is for those who mosh at alkaline trio shows The Chicago show was pretty poor. Why? Well, i saw them the night before in Milwaukee and they played the EXACT same set-list as the night before. They couldn't even change up the set-list for their freakin' hometown. Score is for Theives Like Us. Anyone want to send me the "She Took Him To The Lake" live mp3? Hmm? HMM?! I just got the Asian Man Records DVD and it reminded me of how awesome Alkaline Trio used to be before all the eyeliner and goth lyrics.
"Score is for Chicago show. Yes they did play Warbrain, but no Radio. Worst setlist ever" i have never been a fan of them since i was born your setlist is a little off okay, i know everyone else already pointed this out, but... What does Warbrain sound like live? I imagine it'd not sound too great since the album version sounds extremely well produced. Score is for Chicago show. Yes they did play Warbrain, but no Radio. Worst setlist ever Did anyone see Dillinger 4 at Fuck Yeah fest last weekend in LA? Fuckin GENIUS. Sweet Jesus, I'm born again! "I have been a fan of Alkaline Trio since I first got into them." to the guy who asked 'why aren't they playing bleed?" that song is actually called 'burn' and they are playing it every show.... Was this at the Norva? Score is for that shithole. This set list was similar to the Boston show but no "Private Eye". I have been a fan of Alkaline Trio since I first got into them. Score is for their Chicago show. and the writing continues to amaze at pn.org. "I've been a fan since I've got into them" They aren't playing bleed of the new cd? fuck, i really like that song, the bridge is orgasmatastic, i just picture a huge fucking sing along going "WE ARE ANXIOUSLY WAAITIING.. LIKE HELL..." and so on, fuck. I have been a fan of Alkaline Trio since I first got into them. i'd love to see blue in the face full band I saw them at the first philly show. They played: "I have been a fan of Alkaline Trio since I first got into them." man that set list is way fucking better than the chicago show. they played something ridiculous like 9 or 10 Crimson songs and definitely no radio, fall victim, private eye, if we never go inside or 97. you are a lucky mofo "Cringe" is the best song off that record, if you ask me, and that's saying something. Four songs off of Goddamnit, and none of them were "Cringe" -- that's mighty impressive, considering that was pretty much the only song that band consistently played off that record for the past few years. The sed could've used a little less Crimson (maybe only 4 songs) and a little more of the other three records, but overall, looks like the band are back on track, live performance-wise. Yeah, I have a live MP3 of them performing "She Took Him To The Lake" from some Chicago show a handful of years ago. Matt's backing vocals are all over the map on it, too; it's pretty funny. "I have been a fan of Alkaline Trio since I first got into them." How do you mosh to Alkaline Trio? Have they ever played "She Took Him To The Lake" live? That's definitely my favorite Dan song and might be my favorite Trio song period. Mosh pits!!!! Rawk d00d!!!!11 Sounds lyke a rawking showz!! |
