I never really liked Pavement. Sure, I’d always feign appreciation for them for fear of losing face in front of my peers (the other music snobs), but the truth is they didn’t ever impress me. Their sound just felt too disjointed, their lyrics didn’t feel original or earnest or insightful, and I can vaguely remember on my first listen thinking that the singer sounded like an irritating variation of Travis Morrison. Of course, now I know that that singer was Stephen Malkmus…and that by a large part of the indie community, he’s seen as a genius. So I briefly thought about how much better Elliott Smith albums were than Smith’s first band Heatmiser…and I decided a chance for redemption was in order.

what dude..fuck that..rattle by the rush...fucking pueblo and summer babe...douche bags! Crooked Rain Crooked Rain was the first 'underground' album I ever got. It was a vague reccommendation that I bought into. At first it seemed like a mess... then, after some time, the album began to feel like a home of sound. I listen to it monthly still, just to recall how I could fall in love with new sounds. the new silver jews album that leaked today is the greatest thing i've ever heard. this cover is pretty similar to crimes. Even the font. slanted and enchanted. thats the only pavement lp you will ever need. Crooked Rain.. is when the country influences started creeping in, which brought on their decline. "Score is for reviewers who have to defend their review and end up unneccesarily posting half of the messages in the topic." Score is for reviewers who have to defend their review and end up unneccesarily posting half of the messages in the topic. i like pavement. "There's my rambling. Enjoy! Point in full: Let's go back to the days when this site reviewed mostly punk albums with some spare room for indy, metal or whatever, and when people actually had personality." "Alternatively, just let punk die." I have never heard of this group/person before. I guess i'm ignorant. Hence, i cannot comment on this album. Who's Maris the Great? I never claimed to know everything, why take the energy to disproving and dissmissing something I wrote? Seems kind of bitter... im not even a pavement fan, honestly. i dont enjoy the style of the music, but any insinuation of malkmus' lyrics being juvenile shows a staggering amount of ignorance. All the Pavement listening suggestions are noted guys. damn. that didnt let me repeat "i like short reviews" and i only typed it 3 more times. oh well i might check this out. maybe. i like the pavement i have heard...and they were guests on Space Ghost Coast to Coast so that makes them fairly awesome Marlon, give Crooked Rain Crooked Rain a try. Slanted and Enchanted barely sounds like the rest of their discography and personally I don't think it's all that it's cracked up to be. Crooked Rain is usually thought to be the best start Then I'll be sure to be a prick to you for illigetimate reasons, ya know... just to return the favor asshat. Im in queue, pal. Ummm best pavement song(s)? Favorite Albums Reviewed by rkl Listen Marlon, if you wanna give Pavement a try for real, "Wowee Zowee" is where it is at. By far the best Pavement album, which is closely followed By "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain." Give those two albums a try. I got them years and years and years ago, and I thought much like you did, until one day....they just blew my mind. Really, Pavement was way ahead of their time. can we please mark all reviews by marlon with a special character, so i know to not even bother reading them? Marion, sorry if my original post was a little to aggressive. Probably because I saw Cindrealla Man yesterday, and needed to balance out my feel good mood " Now I'm going to betray you!" - what are you, 12? an AFI fan? I paused my Decemberists to listen to some mp3s of this. Wasn't worth my time. Now I'm going to betray you! seriously, who cares if you like pavement or not? who cares if you're a music snob? you know who? nobody. fuck. I miss Pavement.... Yeah, I did. "Your writing days are over, reviewer." yeah, reviewing something as loaded as stephen malkmus is just asking to get your head bitten off! i learned my lesson after i wrote a review of pig lib for the my school's indie paper. Word. Point taken Markie. I'd also like to point that now I kinda wish I'd just reviewed another album nobody cared about. this review isn't that bad guys, and this is coming from a diehard pavement fan. Again... calling myself naive for not liking Pavement when I first heard them and there was no way to write a Stephen Malkmus review and just not mention Pavement whether you're a huge fan or someone who knows little to nothing about them (like me). woah, i didn't think the review was all that bad. this album is also pretty great. you kids need to calm down. no mention of malkmus' amazing guitar work on this album? maybe you should have listened to it more than once before reviewing it. I miss pavement... "Malkamus and Smith, have nothing to with with each other, nothing. You know Ryan Adams stuff isn't as good as his stuff with Heatmister, kinda how Malkmus's stuff isn't as good as Pavement....so what does that have to do with anything either!" this review fucking stinks. what the hell are you on about? heres a tip - if you are gonna write about pavement, try actually hearing them you fucktard. And what the fuck is all that Elliot Smith crap? I D I O T. It sounds like this: To angry irrational Pavment fan: Slanted and Enchanted Reissue To the below guy, you should write your own review. I'd prefer to hear a review from a pavement fan, but this reviewer's outlook is apreciated still. Horrible Review This record rules. It's the best thing he's done since Terror Twilight whoa. this review was first on the list when i started reading it. they're being posted as i speak. i guess a "FIRST" is appropriate. |
