A release like What It Meant is worth every penny for a true fan of hardcore. I place that emphasis on the word "true" because JUDGE (along with the other classic Revelation hardcore bands of the late 80's) are a band that have a litmus test thing about them. If you are old enough to have been around hardcore when JUDGE existed, the thoroughness of this discography should be enough alone to warrant a purchase. But for those like myself who found their way into this music a handful of years later, What It Meant is not only a treasure trove of great tunes, but a lasting documentary concerning hardcore before it was a commercially accepted form of music.

Got this CD in Canada (I live in the states)...have to say wasn't up to what I expected. Pretty good, but nowhere near the speed or power of YOT, or the total awesome-tacularity of GB. "Posted by punkcorekid on 2005-08-07 15:07:10 Don't forget GRUDGE (with their 7" that included the YOUTH OF TODAY cover "Drinking's Great"!)... JUD JUD, GRUDGE, CRUCIAL YOUTH, GOOD CLEAN FUN, PROJECT X- all gave the serious edge bands a run for their money. (and yeah, PROJECT X weren't 100% serious, from what I remember) ok so straightedge has lost almost all of it relevency in hardcore today. the music has been rehashed over and over and beaten dead. but sweet fucking christ, Judge is mindblowingly amazing. there arent many bands that consistently make me want to throw bricks at handicapped toddlers, but this is one. Judge Dred sucks. Mike Judge is still an asswipe jock. But on the upside, he has lost his edge. Death Before Dishonor are not an edge band. the only edge band that mattered was JUD JUD. Deal with it. Mike Judge is still an asswipe jock. But on the upside, he has lost his edge. I forgot Bury Your Dead: Bury Your Dead on their "Alive" DVD: Yeah, and it's usually the token East Coast band on the bill... Unless they encourage it. I've seen quite a few bad hardcore bands that keep yelling at me to "MOSH IT UP! Come on, tear this place apart and bust some heads." Sad but true, but that is a direct quote. Aggressive music tends to bring out violent idiots, but that's not the fault of Minor Threat, Bold, Judge, Bad Brains or any of the hardcore bands that saw violence at their shows. "the only bones 'jones the bones' cares about is the one coming from my pants." Death Before Dishonor are not an edge band. Jones the Bones is my hero. His initials also say JTB, which only boosts the awesomeness. the only bones "jones the bones" cares about is the one coming from my pants. you are such a fag. "while it's unfortunate that the circle of violence in hardcore continues to repeat itself today, none of these groups should become scapegoats." i think that stupid dredg band fucked me up...another reason to not listen to them aside from their misspelt name Imagine what the scene would be like if Revelation had never existed. You could go to a show and not have to avoid the idiot in the BOLD shirt who is punching a smaller kid in a Judge shirt....finger-pointing idiots throwing elbows for no reason at all. This is the worst part of punk music today. shit bill, youre right...i guess i dont care about that judge too much then...what the fuck was i thinking...i even have some of the comic books somewhere... "the only judge i care about goes by DREDGE I wish every Judge fan who claims that revelation was the best thing going on in hardcore (or punk for that matter) in the late 80's would pick up an INFEST or NO COMMENT record....While Judge and their ilk slowed hardcore down and drove politics out of it, creating the "stupid moshcrew thug gang", bands like Infest and crossed out created the exact opposite - fast, intense music with insightful political content that didn't appeal to the lowest common denominator. "Really? Even though Judge has been around forever, I would've probably thought of some newer bands before them. Champion. Death Before Dishonor. Even Throwdown." My friends band covered a Judge song. It wasn't very good. Judge, however, is. Since I don't own one of the their fucking records I may have to get this. I got this whe it first came out, I had only heard about Judge threw interviews and thew big Interview AMP did on them. I was n ot disspapointed, this is some good old shcool straight edge, I still prefer Youth of Today though. the only judge i care about goes by DREDGE This band gets a lot crap for being "tuff", but they are actually not that bad. I like them a lot more than newer bands like Champion. Of course, put on after something like Gorilla Biscuits, this will sound pretty fucking dated. before it devolves into lots of idiotic arguments, judge's hardline stance was not intended to be 100% serious, but rather a shot at all the people who accused youth of today of being assholes who forced their beliefs on people (they weren't/didn't). as in, they would be exactly what they accused YOT of being, what they feared most. "Can you hear me, hear me when I scream? You hear my words, but do you know what I mean? I'm tired, tired of games we play. I'm through fighting, man. You'll never know what I want to say." "Right after MINOR THREAT, JUDGE is probably the second band I associate with straight-edge." Bringin' it down is a great song, as is their cover of Warriors - everything else, not so much. What it meant was bandanas and circle pits. |
