I don't like 80's metal. Period. I grew up surrounded by it, but never got into it at all. Maybe had I been a bit older or paying more attention during that time period, these covers would mean much more to me. But as a listener now, I ask myself: "What is the need for another 'punk covers metal' comp?" In the past few months, we have already had "Metalliska!" and "I Love Metal," [and don't forget the Shai Hulud/Boy Sets Fire covering Metallica 7"] both of which had their moments, but the whole CD just ends up being too long and boring. Punk Goes Metal is the same way. It clocks in with 17 tracks at over an hour, and the standouts are few and far between. AFI does do a nice version of "My Michelle" by Guns N Roses, and Dynamite Boy plays a pretty faithful rendition of "TNT" by AC/DC. Otherwise, the CD just lags on and on. This will sell a whole bunch of copies, due to the inclusion of Strung Out, Ten Foot Pole, Jughead's Revenge, The Ataris, The Aquabats, and Link 80, to name a few. One can just hope that we're reached the end of this metal revival phase or what have you, and we can all move on with our lives. And if you really want to purchase a covers compilation, get "Before You Were Punk" Volumes 1 and 2, which have more than just cheesy metal tracks on them.

This cd rocks hard - New Found Gloryhole and the Ataris prove how hard they suck on this cd. Big Wigs Slayer cover is the shit, and Death by Stereo's Little Fighter makes me pump my fists into the air. some good shit - except for NFG and Ataris sucking it up a little. m/

What the fuck? This CD is the shit. Fuckin' BigWig, Strung Out, AFI, and many many more. 1 band that pisses me off on here is the Ataris. I think NFG is on it too. But I skip over those songs because those bands suck ass.
