ScumGospels for the Sick (2005)Candlelight Records Reviewer Rating: Contributed by: BrandonSideleau (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on October 4th 2005
Scum are a "super-group" of sorts formed by Amen vocalist Casey Chaos, Fuast and Samoth of legendary black metal band Emperor, Cosmocrator of MindGrinder, and Happy Tom of Turbonegro. Gospels for the Sick is their brutal new album and, as you might expect, bridges the musical gap between hardcore punk and black metal, much in the same way bands like Discharge and Nausea helped bridge the gap between punk and metal.

That happens with alot of people.....well spoken, but I wonder what the hell fucked them up so bad to believe the things that they do. I mean, these guys are from fucking NORWAY! It's not like the have it very rough up there in ANY areas.....atleast, in comparison to places like Watts or the Bronx. It sounds to me like these guys either have serious mental disorders or are just severely brainwashed by their own ideas. Burzum IS a hate band. and Varg is one of the most hateful human beings on the planet. he's just a piece of shit. he's very well spoken though, i wonder where he went wrong. Burzum is listed as a hate band in a number of circles because of Varg's Pagan Nazi beliefs. some of the churches they burnt down were over 500 years old. i'm no fan of religion either, but come on guys, grow up. wtf does doing this shit prove? Wow......that's some fucked shit.....I had never known any of this. I mean, sure, they lived up to their own "satanic" bullshit.....but WHY? I'm no fan of religion.....but blowing up a church (even if it is empty) is just fucked. Anyway, that's some scary shit....but it has NOTHING to do with music, if the music SUCKS then I don't care how "hardcore" they are, it's just a joke. I still love this album though, Casey's a great guy and is always very friendly/informative. From the AMG bio of Emperor: Hellhammer (Mayhem's drummer), not Euronymous, made a necklace from Dead's skull fragments. Later on Mayhem's bassist Varg Vikernes aka Count Grishnackh drove about 6 hours to visit Euronymous, under the pretense of discussing a contract and then stabbed him approximately 23 times. Supposedly the motive had something to do with wanting to prove he was more evil than Euronymous. When Varg was arrested they found large amounts of stolen dynamite and plans to blow up a large church on a religious holiday in his house. Varg's solo project was called Burzum, some of which was recorded before he went to jail and some from prison. He's still in jail now, where he has since decided to give up black metal and become a follower of National Socialism. ok, Will, Brandon and others: Yeah that shit is pretty fucked up.....I just checked it out online. Are you guys sure this wasn't just some huge marketing ploy?? Anyway, if it wasn't......I can't really relate to the whole "Black Metal" scene.......too ridiculous and contrived. Still.....I love this album. Pelle Dead took shot his brains out with a rifle and left a note saying 'My apologize for the blood'. One fucked up bandmember from Mayhem found his corpse and tasted a bit of Pelle's brain, what became his death. I think it was Varg Vikernes (Burzum) who stabed him about 17 times... Correct me if I'm wrong, don't really remember. No, the guitarist shot him and ate his brains, according to my friend. He downloaded the video. First off.....the guy only ate his brains lol. Secondly....I believe the guy killed himself, and brain matter eaten later. Not trying to defend such a digusting act......just getting facts straight. I'm not too sure about Black Metal.....it's strange, but a little too theatrical for my tastes. I love this album though, I don't see what the problem is. "Yeah but I don't think any hardcore band has ever burned down a church or killed then eaten one its own band members. Black Metal in Norway got kind of barbaric. "and i still don't think it's as bad as tough-guy hardcore, where they threaten to piss on my grave. that wouldn't be very nice at all." Score is for "Scum" by Napalm Death Its not for everyone, thats for sure. SOme songs are good but too repetitive and strung out. But its worth a download for sure. i bought that death before musick bc of brandons review....i couldnt even get through 3 songs.......but for some strange reason i want to hear this Yes, Turbonegro coined the genre Death Punk before any of these washed up idiots. I got this record. It's in NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM as perfect as you set it out to be, but its got some sick tracks ("Throw Up On You" being the best) here and there. And plus, MORTIIS is on that shit. That guy is more everything than anything ever! Chaos and an early version of Amen backed Vanilla Ice on his rap-metal album. Punk as. Will, first of all, i never complain about production, sometimes i do think it takes away from the music. Death Before Musick was very over-produced......but it still kicks the shit out of most the shit out there. Dude, Steve, their expressions are totally not pouty enough... And they need more cursive writing because cursive writing is done by hand and that's emotion. Eh, I checked out the latest Amen album because of a review here and I didn't like it at all. There were a few decent songs but I wasn't impressed with the lyrics or the vast majority of the music. It also had really slick production for a band that's supposedly so intense. I'm guessing they're probably better live so I'll withhold judgment, but I wouldn't go out and get this or anything related to that band without hearing 3 or 4 songs first & liking them a lot more than "Death Before Musick". Have any of you actually bothered to listen to the album? It kicks the shit out of 90% of the garbage released these days. Right, obviously one member of a band can carry on a complete genre of music, even when the bands are nothing alike. Yeah, I said it. WHAT?! This band is a joke. If the entire roster of Turbonegro recorded this album, it would still be trash. Right, obviously one member of a band can carry on a complete genre of music, even when the bands are nothing alike. Yes, Turbonegro coined the genre Death Punk before any of these washed up idiots. i was fucking around willie, but on a side note, i think all album covers should look like this... Black Metal? Some of it's allright... Darkthrone are okay. Yes, Turbonegro coined the genre Death Punk before any of these washed up idiots. "Will, i think jones was being ironic" Will, i think jones was being ironic. "when are old school punks going to step into the 21st century with their album art?" Hmm..Sounds catchy. Does it have a beat the kids can dance to? I agree with Will's first comment. Wasn't "Death Punk" the term Turbonegro originally used to describe their style of music as well? 'Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk' was quite possibly the best 'black metal' album ever. i need to break that shit out. and i definitley need to check this out too. Emperor scares me. See them live.....that's all I can really suggest. Casey's the real thing, sure he's got the whole "image" going.....but that dude fucking goes for it all onstage and is probably gonna get himself killed because of it (he has a pretty serious medical condition). Amen are one of the very few bands in the world today that actually try to destroy themselves with their own music, kind of like the Germs or Black Flag. I love the records.....but it really doesn't compare to their live show. Scum, on the other hand, I have never seen live.....but since Casey is the lead singer (and since Amen is a "revolving door" band) it's safe to assume they kill it pretty damn well. I know it's not for everyone, but Amen are one of the few bands I can get into the same way I can with a band like Black Flag.....maybe I'm alone in this...whatever. To each his/her own. when are old school punks going to step into the 21st century with their album art? I find it hard to get into Amen because the guy's persona is so... Contrived. The perfectly parted hair, leather vest and all. I don't get the fixation with Amen; they don't seem like that intense of a band. |

hey man, lay off the Bronx haha, there's nice parts.
but yea, Norway seems pretty tame, especially compared to some of the more violent place in first world countries. the thing is kids from the South Bronx rarely wind up being lunatics. do they seel drugs and shoot each other? sure. but they never eat each other of do seriously insane shit. plus their violence isn't usually hate based.
i know i've said it a hundred times, but you owe it to yourself to read that book, it's completley worth the money. it will change your perspective on a few things.
