these guys were all about being 'evil' and they sure did a good job of it. considering Nroway is a pretty peaceful country overall, i think the whole scene accounted for most of the violent felonies in the mid 90's. it was a big problem for a few years, i don't know how it never got international press.

Hellhammer (Mayhem's drummer), not Euronymous, made a necklace from Dead's skull fragments. Later on Mayhem's bassist Varg Vikernes aka Count Grishnackh drove about 6 hours to visit Euronymous, under the pretense of discussing a contract and then stabbed him approximately 23 times. Supposedly the motive had something to do with wanting to prove he was more evil than Euronymous. When Varg was arrested they found large amounts of stolen dynamite and plans to blow up a large church on a religious holiday in his house. Varg's solo project was called Burzum, some of which was recorded before he went to jail and some from prison. He's still in jail now, where he has since decided to give up black metal and become a follower of National Socialism.

Euronymous came wandering by and saw his boy all over the room, so he decided to make a tasty stew out of part of his brain. he also made a pretty necklace with pieces of his skull. what a great guy, that Euronymous.

supposedly Dead didn't have much of a sense of humor, but his suicide note read "Pardon all the blood." hilarity.

all of this can be found in the book i liked to at the bottom, one of the most interesting things you'll ever read, i can't recommend it enough. it talks about Mayhem and Burzum in insane detail, as well as the white trash in the boondocks of the U.S. who take this shit way too seriously. and the scuffels between the black metal scene of Norway and the Death Metal of Sweden at the time. plus some ins and outs and random violent acts these guys enjoyed so much. GREAT book.

personally i'm not huge on this type of stuff. i like Emperor, Satyricon and maybe some other scattered stuff, but i much prefer the Swedish scene; At The Gates, Dissection, (old) In Flames, etc. and i'd rather listen to 'punk' than any of it. i gotta be in the mood. as far as them not having anything to say, they really don't, it's just reshased crap and makes anything remotley emo sound like the most amazing, least cliched lyrics ever.

One fucked up bandmember from Mayhem found his corpse and tasted a bit of Pelle's brain, what became his death. I think it was Varg Vikernes (Burzum) who stabed him about 17 times... Correct me if I'm wrong, don't really remember.
Mayhem took a picture of Pelle Dead's corpse and used it as a EP cover. Kinda fucked up, but that's our neighbours - Norway. Haha...

I got this record. It's in NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM as perfect as you set it out to be, but its got some sick tracks ("Throw Up On You" being the best) here and there. And plus, MORTIIS is on that shit. That guy is more everything than anything ever!

The only drag, I think, is Casey Chaos. His stupid voice, his shitty song writing. He sucks a big one. And I think for a band with a number of members with death-metal backgrounds, the Turbonegro stuff is the only shit that really stands out, and almost seems like a lame rip off at times.

But fuggit. I love Turbonegro so i ain't complain'!

Eh, I checked out the latest Amen album because of a review here and I didn't like it at all. There were a few decent songs but I wasn't impressed with the lyrics or the vast majority of the music. It also had really slick production for a band that's supposedly so intense. I'm guessing they're probably better live so I'll withhold judgment, but I wouldn't go out and get this or anything related to that band without hearing 3 or 4 songs first & liking them a lot more than "Death Before Musick".

Honestly, I dig Amen. I've never seen them live, so I don't know how that goes. I've also never looked at pictures of Casey so I don't know how he looks like.
Why do people here have such a backlash on bands based on appearance? I mean I know there's the whole "Mall-Core" deal, but so what if a guy looks a certain way? I heard shit-awful bands long before I've ever seen their press photos. Shitty images are supposed to be additional ammo to make fun of a band, not your main artillery.

See them live.....that's all I can really suggest. Casey's the real thing, sure he's got the whole "image" going.....but that dude fucking goes for it all onstage and is probably gonna get himself killed because of it (he has a pretty serious medical condition). Amen are one of the very few bands in the world today that actually try to destroy themselves with their own music, kind of like the Germs or Black Flag. I love the records.....but it really doesn't compare to their live show. Scum, on the other hand, I have never seen live.....but since Casey is the lead singer (and since Amen is a "revolving door" band) it's safe to assume they kill it pretty damn well. I know it's not for everyone, but Amen are one of the few bands I can get into the same way I can with a band like Black Flag.....maybe I'm alone in this...whatever. To each his/her own.
