I have to say, not a lot of bands catch my attention these days. But the Sleeping have done just that. It's not like they have anything new to bring to the table. But what they do, they do it so well.

I basically bought this record because I heard that they had ex-skycamefalling members. My hopes weren't too high; boy, was I surprised.

The Sleeping integrate pop and hardcore seemlessly. Some people find the breakdowns in some songs to be a little out of place, yet I find it to be a nice asset to the songs. They also use a little bit of keyboard, which isn't too noticeable but it helps make the rhythm a little more flavorful when it's used.

The first half of the CD is basically softer, more melodic tunes, with "Sunday Matinee (Reel to Reel)" being a little more upbeat than the few tracks that follow after. I love the way they shout out "666" in "The Big Breakdown Day 1." This is where they really show off their poppy/rock side on the first half of the CD.

The last half of the CD is where they really start to kick it up. The second hafl is introduced by a song called "If Your Heart Was Broken You Would Be Dead," which starts off with children chanting the title of the track. Then all of a sudden, vocalist Doug comes in with the children and fiercely yells the same lyric. As Doug is yelling his plea, it is accompanied by an almost two minute-long breakdown which changes its rhythm three or four different times. I find it brilliant. All the songs after that are basically more upbeat versions of the first songs with some breakdowns thrown in.

Overall, I enjoyed this CD a lot. I listened to it constantly when I got it and it continues to be played all the time.

Plus the little hidden track at the end is quite humorous.

Favorite Track: "One Flight One Flame"

honestly, i know the guys and the ad was entirely toungue & cheek. They were actually mocking the bands that have naked 15 year old girls, or gansta style videos with fur coats and money chains, as well as 40's and the whole "rock star image" I do admit, I think it backfired from its originally intention, but if you know their personalities at all you know that they couldnt have been serious about that ad at all.

Oh hey The Sleeping, what's goin' on?

But anyway, so they play, and they start up this chant, like "IF YOU HAVE A BROKEN HEART IT WILL KILL YOU", and we're like "That's not smart, that's just basic biology".

    Brilliance. Haha!

To be honest, THE SLEEPING never really bothered me at first. Nearing SKYCAMEFALLING's last days, you could hear the heaviness, anger and intensity they were so well known for start to digress, especially with their final 2-song EP, and you could tell that it was only a matter of time before they would become just another forgettable and formulaic I-sing-and-you-scream band. So when I first heard some tracks by THE SLEEPING, I wasn't totally horrified that the remains of one of my favorite new-school hardcore bands have taken to this whole indy-emo rock for teenage girls thing.

But what drove the hate home, for me, was when I saw that ad for them in some shit mag of them in fancy fur-coats, complete with make up and faux-hawks, being groped by beer-commercial women. Sure, I love half-naked and sexy ladies as much as the next straight guy, but to see some of my heroes in hardcore stoop down to having done it for an album advertisement, well, that just won't float in my sea.

A decent band that will soon be tainted by Victory.

    Not a bad album.

Hahahahaha, oh man, this really sucks it up.
I remember I saw this band back in January at an Elks Lodge, when I'd gone to see a friend of mines band. There were like, tons of kids there for them, and we'd never even heard of them before. We stuck around to see what they were like, mainly on account that they had some big robot on top of one of their amps, and I actually think one of the dudes was wearing a FILTH t-shirt.

But anyway, so they play, and they start up this chant, like "IF YOU HAVE A BROKEN HEART IT WILL KILL YOU", and we're like "That's not smart, that's just basic biology".
