Twelve Tribes hail from Dayton and bring their hardcore metal to the main scene with a brutal style that leaves you in awe, and non-metal fans with a headache so big they feel like their head's gonna explode. Seriously, Twelve Tribes is a mix of pounding drums, guitar riffs, double bass, and shouting by Adam Jackson, and only at the choruses is a touch of melody present. Jackson loves to shout and get on the case of politics, major issues, religion, and other categories. They also have a song or two about personal things, which are also good. Also, who can forget the ending of "Baboon Music;" "I like blacks, whites, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Jews, Gentiles, police..."

The CD begins fast with "Post Replica" and flows so well into "Baboon Music" that it's near impossible to realize when the switch occurs. The next two tracks, "Translation of Fixes" and "Venus Complex," are the two singles off the CD and have a little bit more melody. Then the onslaught of hardcore shouting occurs for the rest of the CD, with "Chroma" being the rare exception. "Chroma" is pretty melodic, and has some strong lyrics ("I sleep in gasoline on the burning floor").

"Praise the new drug!" is the way the Twelve Tribes start off "Backburner" as they get in drug companies' face with this song. "The Train Bridge" is the longest song, coming in at 6 minutes and 34 seconds and drags a little, but has an interesting bridge with some good guitar riffs.

"Godshaped War" is one of the heaviest songs on the CD with a headache-inducing drum line with heavy riffs and solid screaming. "Luma" follows and is one of the best songs mainly due to the singing and once again, the music is great. "Flight of the Pathogen" is a good song overall.

Overall, I really like this album. It is one of my favorite albums of all-time from one of my favorite bands because it mixes hardcore with metal, has great guitar work, and I really like the vocals by Adam. I can't wait to see more from this band as their next CD should be out sometime next year...

    Amazing experience. At first you wonder what structure this music has... then after listening a bit you start to get it... I saw 12 tribes as support to Killswitch Engage in London and for me they were the better band. More melodic. You remember the melodies and vocal phrasing long after. Fantastic Album. It grows and grows on you. Quickly you will find that the songs become anthems for things you have in your life. Live they are heavier than the limit of stellar density. Mr Jackson has a gobsmacking voice. The guitars sound messy at first then you start to hear it THEIR way. If this band fade into obscurity like so many it will be a MAJOR catastrophe. WHEN ARE YOU COMING BACK TO THE UK????

    Really, I've never thought that pounding drums and guitar riffs would sound good together.

    dude, I don't think the fact that songs bleed together is something to herald as a highlight of an album.

    This is not a perfect record, but I think way better than most these days. Sky came falling was complete crap for the most part except for one album. With all the bullshit bands like atreyu and fata, 12 tribes atleast brings some original ideas and lyrics to a stale and sterile hardcore scene

    i liked the song they had on the last ferret sampler
    so i ended up picking up this album
    shit was that a mistake
    i think i've listened to it twice since i bought it and that was months ago
    it's really not good

    I agree with that one guy, Misery Signals is a better mix of hardcore and metal than this band.

    Look....you seem like a nice guy. REALLY fucking naive, but a nice well intentioned guy. But...

    This review was moronic, no matter what year it was written in. I'm not saying that you should stop reviewing or anything, because we all need practice to get better, but this getting a perfect score is the equivalent of hitler coming back from the dead.

    Its not cool.

    You should start putting some serious thought into what makes a album tick and actually look for flaws and turn off your fanboy vision. Is this really one of the greatest albums of all time? Hell no. This is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe you like it alot, maybe its your fav, but that doesnt make it perfect.

    Objectivity is a good thing.

    Dude... like a million other BETTER bands mix hardcore and metal! Drop this junk and pick up Misery Signals, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Camilla Rhodes, Compromise, Fordirelifesake, Blood Has Been Shed, or Skycamefalling. Anything but Twelve Tribes!!!

    This shit is so forgettable. I mean, where are these guys now? The only mention of them nowadays is advrtisements for this album in old magazines being sold for half price at your local HMV.
