I am surprised no one has written a review for this CD. I think that Anatomy of a Ghost were an underrated band that perhaps deserved more recognition than they got.

The band has had a somewhat tumultuous time since the release of this CD; they broke up and then decided to get back together three months later in early 2005 more or less as Portugal: The Man.

I doubt the band would've gone anywhere, and nor will they now, but that should not detract from the quality of this particular CD. While it has its hits and misses, it is still enjoyable and I can listen to it all the way through without the skip button. It's a CD that I pull out when i want something different. There is something that separates Anatomy of a Ghost from the other bands out there (I'm sure a lot of people don't agree, though).

This CD, like most out there, has its ups and downs. The band has great songs such as "On to Morning Stars," "Set the Stage," "Steetlights, Empty Wells," "Since Yesterday" and "Satellites in Fists," but the album misses the target a little with songs such as the opening track, "Birth of a Mile," and "Beauty is in Its Embrace."

At times it is really difficult to understand the singer, John. After listening to this album thinking you know what he's singing about, and then analyzing the liner notes, the real lyrics are totally different to what you thought they were (does that make sense?).

While I'm on the subject of lyrics...the majority of the lyrics on Evanesce are pretty weird and out there. They don't seem to be attached to reality in anyway at all; I'm sure there is some deep artistic meaning in there. Perhaps only the members of Anatomy of a Ghost undersand, e.g. "opened the sky branches cartoon greeting." I'm not sure what all that is about.

John at times also seems way off pitch when he's singing, which irritates me, but you might be fine with it. Maybe that's the band trying to be emo.

Anatomy of a Ghost (for those who have never heard them) sound a little like Coheed and Cambria and I have also heard them compared to Thursday, but I don't really like making comparisons. Anatomy of a Ghost are a band in their own right.

In any case, i think this CD is really, really good. To be fair, I don't think these guys sound a lot like any other bands around (I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with that comment, though). I would thoroughly suggest picking up this CD. Anatomy of a Ghost is a band that you will either love or hate. If Claudio from C&C's voice irritates you, I'd give this one a miss, but if you enjoy emo / melodic hardcore, this is probably a good buy for you. I like it, anyway...

    My Score:

This album is pretty awesome and the bad reviews are only from people that like or dislike things we dont like and like so it's pretty fair really. Although this album has quite alot of catchy riffs and vocals in its also got a raw feelin in some songs and a more melodic feelin in others... All in all it's a good record for what it is. I was debating between a 6 and a 7 but I saw 7 was more appropriate.

Good work lads! Get back together and make a new album and lets see the improvement made!!

This band sucks. A lot. I had this record when it came out and it was one of the most awful things I had ever heard. Lame.

    My Score:

I'm obsessed with this album, It was a great album and all these kids who knock it are merely shallow and close minded and only judge on which bands are cool and popular or even which ones victory records and fuse tv tell you to listen too. Thats the problem with kids these days they are afraid to admit they like something and are way to negative to people who are making music. So just because AOAG only released one album and didn't make it they suck? so next year if the bled, as i lay dying or anyone of your favorite bands broke up or changed a sound they will probably suck then too right? Or are you just going to continue to follow the endless trend of only listening to bands that everyone else likes because you have to feel soo cool in the little cliches that you kids belong to. Be yourself for once. and stop judging. have you kids would never make it in a band anyway so don't critisize those who've tried.

Great review and great band. I feel bad that punknews has to listen to these 18 yr old cry babies.

anatomy of a ghost are faux, pretty boy rock stars who got big in portland by beating each other up on stage instead of having a good solid live show musically.

I used to be all about this band when I was like 16, when I was all about shit like The Beautiful Mistake and Finch. Still though, it's not too bad, even though everybody and their mother bitches about the singer.

    My Score:

Yeah, "On to Morning Stars" was pretty catchy, but I could never get into the rest fo the album.

And yeah, they broke up a while ago.

    My Score:

Ah, Anatomy Of A Ghost. I Heard this guys a while back, and I found them to be a band who has talent. I though they were working on a 2005/2006 realease though... Maybe I should heard Portugal:The Man. This is not for anyone, and like said, this is probably going to be considered emo.

Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 16, 2005 at 2:26 AM (EDT)

Fucking christ. This is awful!!! The vocalist sounds like his nuts are in a kung-fu death grip. Did they break up? I sure hope so. Fuck this scene and fuck bands like this.

    Not bad.

Anatomy of a Ghost had a good thing going for a while, there. Besides "Onto Morning Stars" is one of the most addicting songs I've ever heard.

    My Score:

I liked it. I would say that AOAG is the best out of all the Victory-ish, emo, screamo, whine-core, whatever you call them bands. I haven't heard their new band yet. Decent album.

i don't think anyone reviewed this because it's really fucking bad.
