It was my first time seeing Paint It Black on Saturday, November 5th, and I was excited as fuck. They've been a personal favorite of mine since earlier this year and I had been anticipating this show for weeks. It was at NYC's infamous punk/hardcore community center, ABC No Rio, which provided a great atmosphere. The show was set to start at 3, but didn't actually get going until about 4:30.

Sparkle Motion is sweet, my band played with them in front of 2 people in the middle of nowhere. good times. Hey, i was the one in the crowd videotaping. email johnnyxecfu@yahoo.com maybe i could hook some people up with dvd's at the next show or something Great show. When I saw them I remeber Yemin and Nelson talking and every question Yemin would ask, Nelson's reply would be some old powerviolence band such Despise You, No Comment, Man is the bastard, and Spazz. I actually wonder how many people in the audience got the tongue in cheek responses. I agree, how could you miss Ed Gein - those two songs released off the next full length are VERY Botchy - and that is VERY VERY good. And yes, Sparkle Motion was the name of that stupid girl dance group in Donnie Darko. Strange considering all of Ed Gein's ep material had Darko quotes. Holla. Im glad to see Paint it Black finally putting together a decent set list. Every time ive seen them its been full of songs that didnt fit together and not enough music. My only complaint about this band live is they dont play enough. 30 minutes and their average song is just around a minute, you should be able to hear atleast 20 songs. I like PIB and saw them a few months ago in OC.. and it was just okay. Maybe it was an off night or something, but I felt the same way about Kid Dynamite when I saw them. Maybe they just don't like California.. "Posted by kenjamin on 2005-11-11 02:58:51 I can't believe you didn't watch Ed Gein. That band might be the nuttiest band that's ever walked the earth. It's A Shame might be one of the best grind records I've ever heard. did dan take his shirt off? when they played detroit he took his shirt off. weird seeing that dude wearing some khaki pants, no shoes and no shirt getting into the rollins stance. amazing presence though. i don't think half the people there knew who they were really and he had them all in his hand within 2 songs To future dr. kliph - I thanked Dan on my MS thesis too!!! banter on issues like media control, sexism, and animal rights? animal magnetism? Animals are magnetic? Maybe robot animals. Sparkle Motion is from DD, yeah. Why is Yemin the reason why you're going to grad school? Just because you wanted to be like him or because you talked about clinical psych with him? Paint It Black were really fucking good. Great show. isn't sparkle motion the name of the little sister's dance group in Donnie Darko? Dr. Dan is the reason why I'm going to go to grad school. Great Show. I was right in front during lord's set and the vocals were impossible to hear too. I remember when I saw PIB. During a song, (can't remember which) Dave got pissed off with his ride symbol and just launched it across the stage. Hit some kid full on in the face. Ouch. Holy shit, that bass player is in affirmative action jackson. They played my basement awhile back and they were effing hillarious. Cool beans. i saw paint it black in dc do a 20 song set in about 30 minutes. now this is the kind of hardcore i like. "I miss Dan Yemin... I really wish I'd gone to this. I guess I can rest easy knowing I'll get a date with them and Strike soon anyway (if I can not forget the date like with this). Oh, and fucking Lords too! Goddamn... Paint It Black and Ed Gein? Aww, that would've been fun to go to... I miss Dan Yemin... |
