If you're at all familiar with Japanese masters of all things noise Boris and Merzbow, (not one band, but Boris the band, and Merzbow just one person), then you'll know that anything noise music-related in Japan runs through one of these two. With minimal instrumentation relying heavily on drones, bleeps and glitches, the two have teamed up on Sun Baked Snow Cave in one epic, hour-long saga of a song. Take that, Mars Volta.

boris is amazing live Wicked review, loved Merzbow for years! great to see more varity finally. BORIS?!?!?! Great to see Merzbow reviewed here. I am definitely looking forward to hearing this. When you put it like that, I do have to agree. People go rabid over this sort of stuff. The most recent Boris CD x3 sold originally for about 60-70 bucks, but because of how few there actually are, people are selling them on ebay for upwards of 140 bucks, just because it's Boris. I have mixed feelings about this kind of stuff... Noise rock is cool, and I love this minimalist stuff (well, I don't know that this is minimalist- I'm just thinking Merzbow and drone-rock), but so much of it seems to be about the name attatched to the group... melvins did it. For the record, Boris does much more than just noise stuff. Hell, Akuma No Uta is almost a stoner-rock album. I can't wait to hear this stuff. |
