I think I can speak for a majority of people who say that there has been a drought of refreshing and powerful stright-forward rock music as of late. This CD will make those people very, very happy. And so I feel it my duty to tell you about these guys before MTV gets a hold of them.

Meriwether's sound is familiar and yet unique in its own right. Make Your Move aims for more of a punk rock sound, but also blends elements of refreshing (not annoying) pop and emo that keep you on your toes. The CD begins things with the somewhat pointless "Make Your Move" intro, but then picks things up immediately afterward with "Wash Up, We're Having Company." The hooks and rock keep coming even through Meriwether's mellower tracks like "B Quiet," "Girl in Mexico" and "Pheonix Down," and come off quite beautifully. "Aye Julian" is possibly one of the best tracks to come out this year. Guitar and angst driven, the vocals soar and before too long I found myself singing along.

It is not only the music that I find incredible about Meriwether, but their lyrical honesty. It's not pointless angst or emo lyrics, but honest and meaningful. That alone makes Make Your Move noteworthy. Combined with some addictive rock and you've got yourself an great album.

The only thing that really takes away from the sheer power of Make Your Move is the length. There are a few of slower tracks such as "Street Legal Shootout" and the closer track "And Tonic E.R.," which aim for 'anthemic' but fall a bit short of the mark. They are not bad tracks, but tend to drag and just con't measure up to the caliber of the rest of the albulm.

Meriwether is truly a talented band and will give us much to look forward to from their future releases.

some people aren't happy unless it is muse or the mars volta, there are other kinds of music, its ok that they're out there, im a teenager and i can actually get girls so emo crap speaks to me, maybe you have never had an interest in girls and thats your problem, i dont know, but i tolerate every kind of music, because certain music is for certain people, people who try to hate on genres of music are no better than the kkk, ok a little better, but not too much

    My Score:

What the hell is the deal with people jumping to say that they are the same old emo punk band? If they were any other way I'm sure ya'll would bitch about that too. They kick ass if you would give them a chance.----Staci Jones

"my heart is breaking, your heart is faking"...is that from a graham parker song? And I was referring to not just any Minor Threat cover, but a cover of the actual song "Minor Threat". It was done by Silverchair, Pennywise, Model Citizen, Mean Reds, etc.

Ok, fucking seriously, this is generic pop-punk, and I had never heard of these guys until the review on this site. Oh how I wish I stayed ignorant. C'mon man! This is MAINSTREAM SHITE "my heart is breaking, and your heart is still faking?" Serious? Fucking terrible man. Gimme old Saves the Day and Horace Pinker if you must, but this pathetic overproduced garbage. Oscar ... ? I think he'd even vomit on you. Thanks.!

Hey, wait, what's wrong with doing a Minor Threat cover? They're one of the greatest bands of all time. They certainly deserve covers... good ones, anyway.

This album is one of the best I have heard in a long time. I recommend you at least check out their purevolume website.. it would most definatly be worth it.

Emo-pop. That's almost as original as spray painting the anarchy symbol, or doing a cover of "Minor Threat". Hell, that's almost as original as a shitty emocore band signing to Victory.
