Hayley Williams has got to be living the dream. Sixteen years old, and at the helm of a rising band with a record deal. How many 16-year-olds can you name who’ve got those credentials?

As far as I’m concerned, that’s pretty damn impressive. Fueled by Ramen’s Paramore are definitely a band on the rise, thanks in large part to Williams, who may be only 16, but has the range of a seasoned music business veteran. Fronting this four-piece band, the young singer belts out at quite the impressive range, one that drives the songs, and the album as a whole just the same. The music backing her may not be the most inventive, but they’re already a few steps ahead on no basis other than those vocals. “All We Know” opens the album in fine fashion, with some pretty basic riffing, and Haley’s vocals, though relatively quiet, immediately impressing, and she will continue to do so for the rest of the album. But the more the album goes on, the more it unravels.

The problem here is the structure of the songs, they’re just too flat, too linear. A voice like that needs some real dynamic musicianship behind it, and it’s sorely lacking on All We Know Is Falling. Even by the standards of similar pop-rock bands, the guitar seems a bit uninspired, the drumming a bit lazy, and the bass is barely existent, if existent at all. It gets to be a problem, when the band's lack of ability and diversity drag Williams down. Take “Never Let This Go,” a relatively slow song, where the vocals sound like a complete afterthought, just because there’s nothing driving them underneath. There’s only so much that one person can do themselves in a band; there’s got to be some chemistry, and I’m having a real hard time finding any. And as the album goes on, any momentum from the beginning really seems to be fleeting. “My Heart” is an extremely poor note to end things on, as what could have been a beautiful track was really disrupted by some awful, awful background growling at the end of the song. Williams just never gets that real chance to let her vocals expand, without being pulled back down by her bandmates.

At only 16 years old, Hayley Williams has an absolutely incredible voice.

deffinately a great album! these guys are real hard workers and dedicated. not just for their music, but for their fans as well. this deserved more than a one.

I think Paramore is a awsome band there songs are so good and Hayley she is a really good singer. And it's awsome that the lead singer is a girl because there should have more girls as lead singers. THEY'RE ROCKING

Some guys on ESPN are predicting this DE from NC State, he looks to be a beast, and would be a tremendous asset on the pass rush. So we'll see how that goes.

I watched Losman a lot when he played at Tulane, and I have faith in him. He needs a lot of development, but for better or worse he's the future of the franchise. And McGahee can absolutely rush for 2,000. Lets not forget, had he not been hurt, he was absolutely going first in the draft that year. Last year he rushed for 1,200 yards. Catch is, that was only in 11 games. So you have to figure that's 100 ypg, add 5 onto that, you're at 1,700, all of this on a shaky offensive line. You put Denver's O-line in front of that guy, and he plays every game, I have not a doubt in my mind he could make 2,000.

I like to think the Giants will get to the Super Bowl when Eli finishes his learning curve. I'm sure Coughlin will figure something out.

Spikes going down was really bad. but although i penciled you in at 8-8 and 3rd place in the east, i never had faith in Losman, at least not for this year. we'll see if he can develop, and you're right about your offensive weapons.

McGahee is gonna be the man, 2000 is wishful thinking, but yea, the talent is there. as far as a D-Tackle, it's you guys and the rest of the leauge. the Jets desperatley need one too, along with an O-Tackle. a Nose Tackle wouldn't hurt us either. or a Corner... etc.

all in all, i think we're equally far from being true contenders. i mean we both have the possible talent at certain positions, but there's a lot of question marks.

who do you want in the first round? you guys draft 8th, so personally i have no idea where you should go.

Well what worries me is the defense. We had the second ranked defense in the league in 2004, we lost Pat Washington to free agency and Takeo Spikes to injury and the wheels fell of the train. If we can get a solid defensive tackle to bolster the run defense, we'll be fine, because as far as pass protection we were still top 5 this year.

Offensively, Losman needs to develop. I don't know if Moulds is staying, but with Lee Evans blossoming and Roscoe Parrish set to have a breakout year, he's got some weapons to use with that strong arm of his. Plus he's one of the NFL's most mobile QB's, all that needs to happen is for us to get some strong veterans on the offensive line. If that happens, McGahee has the talent to run for 2,000, and even our backup RB is good enough to be a starter somewhere else.

We'll see I suppose.

Anchors. i worry about the Bills a little for the next few years, but not as much as the Dolphins, not yet at least. Levy is gonna do a good job, i have a lot of respect for him, and i wish the Jets could get their hands on someone with his instincts.

Marlon, do you think Eli is gonna eventually lead the Giants to a Super Bowl, and also, do you think Coughlin is gonna hold him back? i mean, the man has never won a big playoff game, and that includes to trips to the AFC Champ game iwth two 14-2 teams.

This is a good review. Somethings are right on in the opinion aspect. But also this is a new upcoming band, being very young, they are far away from maturing as a band, the chemistry will come. Not a bad album.

Well, we got Marv Levy back, and the team was the winningnest team of the entire NFL in the 90's under his tenure, so I'm hoping that they will return to form, and Chris Berman will at long last be allowed to say again "Nobody circles the wagon like the Buffalo Bills!"

Anchors, i feel for you man. i have no hatred for the Bills, even though they beat the Jets at least oce a year. they're just kinda... as pitiful as us, just not as recognized for it.

and Marlon, Eli isn't awful, but he certainly ain't gonna be Peyton........ except in the playoffs, of course.

I'm a Giants fan and I think Eli did pretty well this season. He's a fucking second year qb dude... you gotta be patient. I didn't even think we'd in six games this season. Winning the NFC East was the best we could have hoped for.

A) Marlon, yucky dude. She's 16. Of course I'm 23 so that may be why it's gross. If you're 19, not so much.

B) So basically Island keeps an eye on FBR artists and gets first crack at em. But other than that there's no clear connection...Still sounds really dumb, but I guess it's working out for FBR.

Don't forget Cadillac Blindside and Frodus. Fueled By Ramen use to be a nice label. Not the greatest but still had some kick ass music.

Dante, FBR was never great, but they were certainly never this bad until recently. The Stereo was underrated. The AKA's, Teen Idols and Whippersnapper for an album, etc.

I think that's two reviews this week where you mention the singer being stronger than the band...Someone has a singer fad going.
Seriously though, what the fuck happened to Fueled by Ramen? Were they always this bad and I just didn't notice til now?
In addition, a better label that still puts out good music is Asian Man Records. I love them...all two of the people who run it (Well, one if you don't include Mike Park).
