The boys and me got some history, we’re a mystery / We’re still getting it on, writing our songs / And we still do everything that we can sticking it to the man- “Punk Rock High,” Randy the Band These few lines from the opening track, "Punk Rock High," basically sum up the band and this album. They seem to be in their own world of rock, and after past infections of “Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Punk Rock Flu,” they have returned on Randy the Band throwing “Molotov Rocktails.” Anyone who has followed the career of this band knows they have consistently delivered hit album after hit album, and their newest work is no exception. There is no doubt they have honed in on their melodic side this time around, as every track is catchy-as-can-be rock‘n’roll. By now they have done plenty to establish themselves as Randy and should not need any comparison, and yet an allusion to the Clash seems unavoidable. They adorn the cover in leather jackets, creating their own spotlights with light rays from behind their shades. The back of the album features neon pink vomit, as well. Another bonus is provided in the form of illustrations that compliment each track’s lyrics. Tracks like “Razorblade,” “Evil,” The Pretender,” and “Going Out With the Dead,” like most of the other tracks on the album, are unmatched, catchy punk-pop. However, most tracks on the album, aside from their catchy style, also hold important messages not far beneath the surface. Another subtlety is the guitar work that accompanies the lyrical themes. Great guitar solos fill the gaps, providing a treat for the ear, while not drawing attention away from the melodies -- basically being awesome, while taking a backseat to the themes. Randy the Band is another great album for the Swedish rockers. With nothing left to say, I’ll leave you with the band’s reassertion of their punk lifestyle in “I Raise My First:” I’m still vegetarian, anti-America / I’m still socialist and I still raise my fist / I’m still anarchist / I’m still atheist / I’m still pissed, because some things they enlist / I raise my fist Please login or register to post comments. Great! I own the last 3 Randy albums and almost didn't buy this one. I just figured I had enough Randy albums. I regret thinking that. This band rules and so does this album. picked this up about a week or so ago, and i haven't been able to stop listening to it since. it was my first exposure to randy, so i immediately went out and got "the rest is silence" and "you can't keep a good band down" .... what a whip ass band This album rox... imo its the 2nd best album of 2005 (first being warriors code by dkm). I'm really glad they found their own sound, cus they started being a shitty NOFX rip-off. I heard the "Razorblade" sample from Fat Wreck, and, while it's a neat song, it's so IDENTICAL to The Clash, that looks like a rip off. I mean, it employs the same kind of guitar melodies and harmonics as The Clash circa Give'em Enough rope, or Super Black Market Clash, i mean 1978 Clash. I like my music with a bigger dose of personality. But as i said, Randy can play, yes they can. first Randy cd i've bought....really really enjoy it Great on CD, great live. Randy is fucking good! I miss their old shit. Yeah, I remember a while back there was an international spotlight on Blind Pigs. They were really cool, what's up with them now? Portugese I guess, but the same idea. I agree with the guy below. I mean, I don't know anything about spanish bands or anything, but I dislike how on this site if it doesn't happen in North America... it doesn't happen at all. It's strange too that the CD have arrived to the U.S 4 months later then his european release by Burning Heart. Well, we all know that the most people on Fat Wreck they are fucking lazy xDDD P.S. The Dreamcast was a fucking amazing system. People who are vegetarian's for anything other than dietary reasons are stupid. If you're not gonna eat meat because of how they treat the animals you better fucking be vegan too. End of fucking story. For some reason, like this much less than their previous works. ""Since they are vegetarian they don't kill animals to eat them, but on the cover they wear Leather Jackets. So killing to eat animals wrong, but killing animals for fashion ok? Fucking practice what you preach assholes."" haven't seen the damned album back cover, but it also looks very similar to the ramones "pleasant dreams". Since they are vegetarian they don't kill animals to eat them, but on the cover they wear Leather Jackets. So killing to eat animals wrong, but killing animals for fashion ok? Fucking practice what you preach assholes. Isn't the artwork a take-off on "Damned Damned Damned"? Especially the back cover, if anyone's seen it. I think these guys were on a Boucning Souls, Hot Water Music tour that I saw. Randy must be admired only for his change to better, from a simple skate-core band they have arrived to be one of the best punk bands, almost in Europe, and his music based on the 70's brittish punk like The Clash but with obviously differences is one of the most original mix that I have seen in my short life. Although I prefer The Human Atom Bombs, more nearer to his orginal style, this new release is fucking shit too, it is addictive, the riffs, the lyrics, all are great too There was this porky little fucker named Randy on my baseball team one year. Of course he got picked on miserably for being fat and all, but this one time he had his shirt off and he was seriously trying to manipulate his man-boob into a sucking position. Some of us saw him trying and we like bent his head down so he could reach. Once he finally got his sweaty nipple in his mouth he sat there and sucked on it for like 5 minutes. "punknews is lame" Great album, even more so in the current climate of utterly appalling "punk rock" bands that are played these days. ok i was wrong. two dudes mentioned it. how come no one's mentioning "can't keep a good band down." now thats a fucking good album. its my favorite by them. and im not just sayin that cause its on G7. To the kid way down who posted that mentioned explosive bear, I would like to say, "thanks". And you are very cool. Much better than their last album(Welfare Problems) but I don't like it as much as Human Atom Bombs. 'Nuff said. I never thought I would like Randy after seeing one of their videos on an Epitaph DVD, but this record is fantastic. I thought their last two albums were way better than this one, but I still love this band. They have said they are touring the States and I can't wait to finally see them after all the previous cancellations. This time I think they'll come through. Last time they complained of no tour support from the label, and since Fat Mike loves 'em... This album is amazing. Randy continues to be one of the most underrated bands in punk rock. It may not be quite as good as The Human Atom Bombs but it is an improvment from their Welfare Problems. I can't believe that here wasn't a review up for this album on the day it was released. this album is okay but there are some weak tracks. example razorblade. cmon that song just sucks. In grade 5 I won a Turbographix16 from a classmate after being on the triumphant side of a bet on a Broncos game. Good thing, too, because I wagered my hampster Turbografx 16 was the best. I used to play military madness and that demon pinball game for hours. Are you guys too young to remember TurboGraphix 16! "Sega's not flapping their yapper so far as we can tell, but German gaming site Gamefront.de is claiming they're going to be re-releasing the frickin' Dreamcast bundled with Radilgy and some limited edition telephone card or something. But our wish come true from the Ghost of Hackable Consoles Past will probably be Japan-only though, distributed through Sega Direct for ¥10,000 (about $83 US) — still, could this be the triumphant return of Sega hardware, even if only just nostalgia-gear? Apparently we'll find out February 16th (or sooner)." goddamnit, buy this robert. no more epic sparta crap....BUY THIS!!!!! I'm at school, and our library won't allow that site to go through. What's it about? Dreamcast is getting a second lease on life in japan Anyone noticed how the cover looks like the one on that horrible Goldfinger album? Also, Nomad's worth it, even if it does kill 6 AA's in three hours. I just want a 32x to play Knuckles Chaotix. It's also a cool novelty item anyways. And yeah, it's a real shame about Sega. They lost their touch after Sonic went 3D. Dreamcast was way ahead of its time, though. A bunch of good ideas, but poor implementation. Very few bands are better than the Ramones. "Strike Anyhere, Good Riddance, Avail, The Lawrence Arms, None More Black, THE DESCENDENTS, The Soviettes and Smoke or Fire aren't real bands?" I just got in an immature messageboard argument with some dude who said The Dils were better than the Ramones... (Yeah, some band that released like 2 singles totally owns the Ramones). Go to www.explosivebear.com. They're a rap group that sounds like Atom and His Package meets 80s hip hop. "Randy, Propagandhi, and D4 are the only real bands on Fat" as for the asshole that said that D4, Propagandhi, and Randy are the only real punk bands on Fat, you should clarify...lots of 'real' punk bands have resided on Fat at one time or another. Case and point: Screeching Weasel Who cares...my XBOX360 rules! 32x was stupid, i got one becasue it was $10. I only remember a few fun games for it: Doom, Knuckles Chaotix, Star Wars The nomad is pretty cool, even with the short battery life, because yo can hook it up to your TV at home to play it like a regular Genesis. I would love to play that thing in public though! Its fucking huge! I was looking into a Nomad off ebay so i could play Gunstar Heroes whereever i was but was turned off by the uber short batter life. That thing sucked AA dry in 3 hours I got a 32x for cheap when stores were tryin to get rid of them and i didnt really notice a difference. GLADIMNOTEMO: Randy, Propagandhi, and D4 are the only real bands on Fat. They're also some of the only "major punk label" bands with anything to say...A . I love Randy, am enjoying this record (but not as much as Atom Bombs yet), and would like to chime in that this cover art is AWESOME. Their best record so far...the perfect merger of my til now favourites Human Atom Bomb and You Can't Keep A Good Band Down. Oh shit, I remember that thing! That was a monster. I was always more of a Nintendo man myself, though. Oh, my bad. I kind of want to buy a 32x to hook up to my Genesis. I still play that thing all the time, but I never experienced the 32x. Nah man, the Activator came out. It didn't sell at all and they pulled it pretty soon after that. “Going Out With the Dead” is my fav Randy track While we're on the subject, who remembers the Sega Activator? And who actually has one? Along with the throwback cover art, the album is a throwback to the old days of punk. While we're on the subject, who remembers the Sega Activator? And who actually has one? Darkstarm - Virtual Boy is definitely way up there. Tiger's R-Zone was another horrible failure in the world of VR consoles Swedish people are odd. That's all I have to say about this. This definitely sounds like the Clash, but meeting Pink & Black styled pop-punk. If we want to get specific, it's more the choruses of the first half. Virtual Boy - Biggest flop in video game history? Foiled again! Just remove the trailing slash. Man I suck. Sorry, that link is busted. It should be http://www.myspace.com/theratchets/ Hey BizzleBrizzle, I love this album. Its a lot of fun. I don't think there are any bad tracks here. Its catchy as hell. "Evil" reminds me of the Misfits, "Nothing on Me " feels like it could be a Dead Kennedys song. Favorite tracks are Bahnhof Zoo, Red Banner Rockers, Teenage Tiger, anf Punk Rock High. The Virtual Boy head sets they were wearing in the liner notes of Welfare Problems are much better than the spotlight spewing glasses sported on this cover. Why wasnt this up on Tuesday? My guess is the reviewer is a jerkstore and doesn't understand deadlines =P I've sitll yet to hear a band that people compare to the clash actually sound like the clash. Paddy posted this on the D4 Myspace account, didn't know where else to put it: people from Sweden are stupid This band confuses me, their early stuff is horrible, then they made two fantastic records, and now they've made too more bad ones. Hrmph. Solid band, but the artwork makes me want to kick Indianapolis Colts' fans in the faces...wait, that's just normal. |
