While In Flames faltered for two albums, a new wave of American metalcore was borrowing and outright stealing from them. So Come Clarity is not just significant because of their signing, but because of their newfound confidence in their roots and in their sound. In essence, In Flames has finally returned to reclaim their throne.

good album, nu metal is what their makin, just cuz their changing slightly from where they came from dosent mean that its bad. metal isnt the same as it was 10 yrs ago. now shut the fuck up and listen to the album Cant get enough of this album. Album of the year without a doubt so far. Come Clarity is not nu metal nor is reroute to remain. Maybe the smooth timbers of the badwagon are more inviting to your cowardly ass than the wind swept plain of reality, but without in flames, Anders or otherwise, Melodic death metal or Gothenburg or death metal in general wouldn't be what it is. If In flames read the same recipe book for Melodic Death Metal you did there would be no progression, just a tired old act orchestrated time and time and time and time again (yes that's a verse from clayman). Melodic Death Metal is progressive metal and "trying something new" for lack of a better termm is what makes in flames leaders. Any hodge podge collection of hacks can plagerize old riffs to regurgitate the metal you are used to but it takes revolutionaries to pioneer a new sound and risk life, limb and career to pursue their musical aspirations. Great musicains make music not slightly varied offerings of a familiar format. The musical talent that constitutes in flames doesn't sit down and unanimously agree to make a "Melodic death metal album" if that was the case they would deliver the most kick ass if reheated rendition of our favorite albums. Instead they collectively decide to make an album of cutting edge songs in the format they feel appropriate, free of the yoke of conmforming to a genre. Free of critiquing their own work to ensure it pases the go no go gauge of conforming to melodic death metal. An album that sounds like its predecessor is not in keeping with melodic death metald routes of innovation and progression. It is no wonder that some of the more prominent figures of death metal are at once staples and vagabonds of the genre. MDM is littered with innovators that are always reinventing themselves and bands that are constintley changing their line up, drawing from a diverse yet familiar pool of constituents who easily oof art forms and it's practitioners behave accordingly. To remain the same and conform to a format is not the nature of melodic death metal and a "typical melodic death metal album" is a contradiction in terms. Melodic death metal is constantly evolving and constantly progressing so that no new materail should sound like the old. In fact melodic death metal that is overly reminiscent of previous material is less in keeping with it's nature than that which is seemingly obscure from its past. This may seem very wordy but to summarize:The melodic death metal scene and death metal in general are ever evolving and we should not determine a songs artistic magnitude by checking if it meets certain genre requisites. Genre and generic don't share a root word by coinsicence. Like the artists who create these works, we should free ourselves of the constraint of trying to conform to a certain style of music and instead follow our hearts and minds and fear not what the next man thinks. If not for this depareture from the norm, there would be no in flames, no dark tranquility, for these men cast aside musical convention and branched out on their own. Had they not the audacituy and will to venture away from their established, safe roots their would be no melodic death metal. Their pioneering spirit has given us 15 years of spell bounding music unique to out generation. Do not lament them for following the same spirit that has given us so much and taken us so far. Instead embrace it as the primal spirit inherent in all of us that makes us men not sheep. 'Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative" Oscar Wilde. Seems hardly anybody here wants to give praise to this album so... I just saw these guys last night it was awesome. This is one of the best metal records put out, hands down. They have been able to combine elements of thrash, melody, and catchiness to perfection. It is definitely one of the best written records to date; these guys are musical genius's. nu-metal??? i hope your fucking kidding....posers I will have to holler at the comment below. Holla. anyone who calls this album shitty, is someone who thinks they know what music is all about, but have never picked up an instrument because if they had an ounce of musicianship in their bodies, theyd know that rehashing the same stuff from 10 years ago is creatively stagnant If you want to listen to stuff from 95....then go get jester or whoreacle its there for you. When a musical group branches out and tries something a little different...its called progression. True musicians do this...so for all you NON musicians out there this is actually a great album, but you're just to narrowminded to see it. its not NU metal at all!!...Anyone who compares inflames to shit like godsmack or powerman 5000..i.e. corporate metal should be shot....if anything its more metal/thrash with some elements of hardcore thrown in. No real vocalist wants to scream his entire career, and Anders can sing, so why the hell not... i don't really think in flames 'faltered' for two albums. >i>reroute to remain< i> was awesome. I really, really wish there were no clean vocals on this cd. yeah, i dont like this music. But crazytoledo has shitty, shitty taste in music...shitty. Thanks Will, glad to know I'm appreciated. Was that sarcastic? Man I don't even know anymore. I like metal more than punk and I am going to flat out say that this isn't even close to being better than a lot of the bands coverered here. not their best, but this album is clearly better than most bands covered on this site this score is for Mike Ness i dont think anyone is brave enough to admit to liking it Just picked this up a little bit ago. Is there anything cool on the dvd included here? The new Remembering Never is pretty generic in the sense that if you dug the first one you'll dig this one. They didn't make any real noticeable changes, a few more sing alongs with only the singer. For some reason if I was in a crappy factory or rusting warehouse or even a sewer, this would be much better. THIS ALBUM SUCKS! how dare you compare it to jester race and whoracle. give me a break. this is worse than the last 2 albums that cover arts good but the best album cover is black flag's damaged. Except for the song "Slaughter of the Soul," At The Gates is overrated and terrible. The Haunted is way better. Silent Storms, this score is for your sarcasm threshold. They both start with g, so call me gay. Seriously. Oops I got that (Gusto) confused with Gorgeous, my bad! Now that was not my cup of tea ... and I don't like tea or coffee!!! This is great cover art, but Guttermouth's Gusto? I dunno ... gimme Musical Monkey or that godzilla album. Gusto was weak, and so was the cover art. In my opinion of course. Seriously some of the best coverart I've ever seen. Right up there with Comeback Kid's Turn It Around and erm... Guttermouth's Gusto. Are you kidding me? How many oldschool reviews are listed below this one? A lot, with little to no metal - unfortunately. Someone review Botch already - "as they truly are the king of kings". "where the bigwig review" Dark Tranquilit are good. Character by Dark Tranquility is absolutely amazing. And he used to be in In Flames? People like this? Damn. The only in Flames record I would regard as shitty is soundtrack to your escape. The new one sorta kinda redeems it. It's so close to being totally badass, but isn't quite there. Score is for rerout to remain which gets a bad rap. Anyone interested in giving me a reach around This is god awful nu-metal crap. In flames was really rad...they have seen there hayday...it has come and gone is as many albums as dark tranquillity's catalogue. But seriously how much stronger of a release is Character (DT) Than anything in flames has done in the last 5 years? Betcha DT vocalist is glad he jumped the in flames ship after Lunar Strain. Great band with a couple of REALLY shitty records. But this one is worth the praise. Fuck the haters. I hate this music and all of its kind. where's the Bigwig review? Dark Tranquility! none of this numetal crap. |
