The Draft / the Lawrence Armslive in Gainesville (2006)Epitaph Records Reviewer Rating: User Rating: Contributed by: CantSitStill (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on February 28th 2006
I've been to several punk shows in Gainesville and I can say fairly that when it rains, it cuts the attendance in half. Bad for the bands who are hoping to get a good amount of gas and food money on their way to the next stop, but good for those of us who are there to see a long-time and new favorite. Plus, the fact that this was one of the few nights the lineup didn't included house-packer NOFX.

What venue was this at? The Draft are a sweet band. It's awesome to see a good band come out of the breakup of one of my favorites. "The Loved Ones are opening act whores"??? Why, because they tour alot? What, are they going to demand to headline over everyone else because they just released their first record? To the guy below me... When I first got there I was talking to Dave House trying to get him to play "Massive" and "Arsenic." He said were playing the same songs they did last night in Orlando. Then he explained how it wont sound good. He was bein a little bitch about it. But after they played, he was trying to show off by showing me and my gf all the numbers in his phone. He's got fat mike's, skiba's, and tom gabel's. My friend asked him if he had joey cape's and he's like nah lagwagons gay. So i lost a lot of respect for him. Traditionally in Gainesville, touring bands the size of Lawrence Arms will go on in the middle of the show with a local favorite closing it out. The Draft were great, but I too had to leave early. Some people have to wake up early in the morning. Otherwise, the turnout seemed pretty good. well i live in new york so its not that hard because they are playing tomorrow night, only problem is that im a little short on the sold out tickets anybody have an extra ticket for the new york show? Uh, nevermind the first part of my post, it was stupid of me to assume that it's easy for anyone to get to a lawrence arms show within a week! I don't know where you can find it online, get to one of their shows, it's availible already! I still haven't reached a verdict on it, in comparison with the last two Fat Wreck Albums, or the two asian man full lengths eother for that matter! fuck i want to see the lawrence arms live sooo bad...they fucking need to come to milwaukee The loved ones are opening act whores...if they dont become huge soon ill be baffled. Not only do they get to open for nofx and the lawrence arms but they've opened up on several bouncing souls tours, paint it black (for obvious reasons), strike anywhere, rise against...this is just naming a few. If the nyc nofx show didnt sell out so god damn fast it would of been i think my 5th time seeing them. I saw this show. I drove from jacksonville to see it and i was not disappointed. My 3rd time seeing the Loved Ones and they were better than ever. You forget to mention Brendens version of "ever rose has its thorn" when Chris's guitar broke. the crowd SUCKED at this show. all the brohams seemed to suck a lot of energy out of the room. i think all the bands played really well, though, but i agree that the larry arms should have headlined. I like the draft, but you've got to expect a ckluster response when people are used to something and then, all of a sudden it changes. Sure, the Draft still have the HWM sound, but people are unfamiliar with their songs and they don't break out any old HWM material (which is probably a good thing). Quality review. Sad that people walked out on the Draft. the lawrence arms should've headlined this show, but its surprising (and depressing) that TLA fans (espiecially gainseville ones) woudln't stay for The Draft. sink, florida, sink. I love HWM as much as the next guy, but why the hell were The Draft headlining? The Draft = Disappointing. The Loved Ones really do kick ass. I wasn't extremely excited about the new record when it came out, but since I got it, I haven't stopped listening to it. The songs are all pretty similar in some aspects, but they're all good, so who gives a shit. I saw them the afternoon before this show doing an acoustic set at UCF. Totally rad. I'm seeing the Draft with Avail in a few weeks. I'm stoked, but it just isn't the same without Chuck. | Features
