| NOFX / the Lawrence Arms / the Loved Oneslive in New York2006 live show Review by: greenerton See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on March 3rd 2006
Could you ask for a better lineup? As opener we have the Loved Ones, one of the best pop-punk bands to surface in years. Following them, one of the most popular punk bands around right now, the Lawrence Arms…and headlining, the legendary NOFX. When I got a ticket for this show, I knew I was in for a treat, but little did I know that NOFX had a little more planned for this show than anyone could have ever guessed.

I saw this show it was fucking awesome!!!! To whoever posted this.. Went to the Show in D.C. it started off with the Loved ones who were getting booed and thumbs dumb but as soon as lawrence arms went on everyone went crazy right after the lawrence arms went off stage a lot of people were smoking pot bouncers yelled at people to stop no one listen when NOFX went on everybody went fucking crazy "I'm getting so fucking sick of this anti-religion/spirituality trip in punk rock. And that doesn't mean I listen to any bands who are christians... "I don't get the shit-talking on Catholics. What exactly did they say? Let me guess...something about pedophile priests molesting children? How clever! How original! I wonder what was going on inside of Fat Mike's coked up brain..."Huh, huh...I looked on my calendar and it's Ash Wednesday. Wouldn't it be a cool idea if we put ashes on our foreheads and made fun of Catholics! Oh, I am so clever! I am so punk!" They didn't let me into the Chicago show because they said I was too drunk. I drove 7 motherfucking hours. Totally sucked ass. Too drunk. Isn't that the point??? They played the Decline at the Atlanta show also, they said that they were going to play it once in every city. Although at the end when Hefe plays trombone, some guy from the loved ones came out and played guitar. I was at the Norfolk show, and the Loved Ones also got hassled there. They didn't play "My Heart is Yearning", but they played (well...El Hefe did) "No Woman, No Cry". They played that song about Ohio and "Leaving Jesus Land", too. No one dissed the Arms in Chicago, but Loved Ones are shitty and got a fair ration. Re: the NOFX fans i saw em in chicago and it was fucking great. there were a bunch of people shit-talking the loved ones, but the loved ones shit-talked them right back so that was cool. NOFX was fucking awesome, they played the whole decline...it was a dream come true. "I did the same for the DC show. Why, you ask? Cuz both opening bands suck." Luke Jackson of the Cleveland Cavaliers was at the Cleveland show. He did not look very amused. "It wasn't the fact that they were there to see NOFX, it was the fact that they just stood around, not having any fun, just shitting on the two openers." TheNightProwler Scott said he was about to take him off stage because he thought he was going to cause too much rukus (sp?) Scott said he was about to take him off stage because he thought he was going to cause too much rukus (sp?) He was plain-as-day smack dab in the middle too. Watching P Fresh air drum on stage was hilarious -- he was so off. At one point, I saw P-Fresh carrying more beers than I have fingers. The 18 Chicago show was crazy. Someone better write a review for it because it deserves one. All I want to say is Fat Mike's sack was hanging out for a good 5 or 6 songs. Dave Hause totally owned me when I was screaming random things at him. Such as "Fish Don't Fry" (a Cursed song), "Roboto" (for the time they played Roboto and he kept shocking his face off the mic), and I keep yelling "Lifetime Reunion" and that seems to piss him off. He knows he wants my beard though. ahaha P-Fresh was fine except for when he was in a turn lane and decided to go straight... Good to know you're alive, phdecontrol. I was worried that (the very, very wasted) P-Fresh was going to drive you into Lake Erie. See, I skipped out on fucking NOFX in Worcester because the Palladium as a venue sucks, and the crowd is terrible, always. I have been searching since my freshman year of college (7 years go) for the artist of armpit vagina. All the mp3's I've had all said unknown. I'm thinking it must be an illinois thing. My roommates who introduced it to me were from chicago. I do think that many people who do humanitarian efforts (I'd even say the majority) had their interest sparked by religion (be it Jewish, Christian, Islam, etc.). And tons of people who only do surface level, yet really helpful things like soup kitchens would not be doing them if it weren't for the church. whats the deal with armpit vagina? whos that by? Score is for the Lawrence Arms coming out to Armpit Vagina. I hadn't heard that gem in a couple years i was at the worcester show too. like the other poster said, people were pretty lame for loved ones/lawrence arms, which made it way less exciting. "Saw this show in Cleveland tonight, and it was top fucking notch. NOFX busted out "Soul Doubt," "Don't Call Me White" AND "The Brews" tonight for the first time on the tour (so they said), as well as most of the setlist posted below. So fucking good." The show at Washington DC was awesome too. Except the Loved Ones, they sucked. "Is there something to Fat Mike's contempt for the Dropkick Murphys aside from the fact that they're a much better band than NOFX" Dave Hause totally owned me when I was screaming random things at him. Such as "Fish Don't Fry" (a Cursed song), "Roboto" (for the time they played Roboto and he kept shocking his face off the mic), and I keep yelling "Lifetime Reunion" and that seems to piss him off. He knows he wants my beard though. Score is for the arrogant law school fucks. Oh, they also played a full-band version of "Whoops, I OD'd," which was pretty sweet, too. Saw this show in Cleveland tonight, and it was top fucking notch. NOFX busted out "Soul Doubt," "Don't Call Me White" AND "The Brews" tonight for the first time on the tour (so they said), as well as most of the setlist posted below. So fucking good. i was there Is there something to Fat Mike's contempt for the Dropkick Murphys aside from the fact that they're a much better band than NOFX To the guys who responded to me: "now explain to us why fallingupwards is wrong and why you thought making up your own definition would fool us." I just saw this tour in Worcester, MA, and I don't know if it was just a Mass scene thing but the people made this the most fucking unenjoyable show I've ever been to. It would have been incredible, The Loved Ones and TLA were fucking amazing but everyone was there to see NOFX, and it ruined the show. It wasn't the fact that they were there to see NOFX, it was the fact that they just stood around, not having any fun, just shitting on the two openers. "hands down, best song off oh, calcutta! is lose your illusion 1" "(I always order a minimum of 3 CDs from any label)." 1- The Dropfuck Murphys suck. Hey "I'm a law student semantics douche," Will's anecdote about the number of Catholics at the anti-war protests is well noted. Just consider the role that ministers took in the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s. But, i it seems to have little to do with the religion itself or the institutionalization of it. Religions can have a positive effect on lots of people. Sure. I don't think that many people, including Fat Mike, would disagree with that. Yes, it makes for powerful rhetoric in elegant speeches, but from an intellectual standpoint, Christianity is not necessary for Martin Luther King, Jr. to make an argument for human and civil rights. One does not need to believe in Catholicism to organize a soup kitchen. This review was a joy to read, thanks man. Chinatown for fucks sake, you jock nufan religiously, who the hell are you to make an even slightly negative comment about mxpx? The best part of this show was Fat Mike's obsession with the fact that Dropkick was playing a few blocks away. holy shit. i actually agree with will's comment about religion. not just with catholics, all christians actually. Chinatown actually had a really great comment in there. Seeing this show in T-minus 19 hours, and couldn't be more stoked. Fuck face is actually two words. between the bracket. So you sir, are the "fucking idiot". I teach high school, actually. Nice try though kid. I've been debating over pre-ordering the new Larry Arms album, but I've decided to wait until summertime to order it, as the only current Fat releases I'm interested in are Oh Calcutta! and the latest Western Addiction (I always order a minimum of 3 CDs from any label). Hopefully the new Avail album will be out before June-July. OH. MAN. woohoo, this show is gonna kick my ass tomorrow. pretty weak setlist. For the most part I like Nofx, but the Decline pretty much sucks. Nofx has grown stale over the last ten years. Still good live though. "It's too bad you don't want to discuss semantics with me, though. I had a good time pwning your ass." "It's too bad you don't want to discuss semantics with me, though. I had a good time pwning your ass" What a coincidence. I teach high school English to pay my law school tuition. That's pretty cute, though-how you're telling an English teacher what resurgence "generally means." Can one be tolerant and critical of religion at the same time? I teach high school, actually. Nice try though kid. Why am I even responding to an illiterate douchebag? "There has been no "resurgence," you fucking idiot. Fundamentalism has always been around. We as a global society are now giving these shitheads a pulpit upon which to spew their garbage from. That is the difference." "You can blame the resurgence of fundamentalism (both Christian and Islamic) for that." hands down, best song off oh, calcutta! is lose your illusion 1 I am going to see this tour tomorrow, and upon learning of NOFXs performing the entire Decline, my jeans have protein stains now. looking at this set list, im kicking myself in the teeth for not getting tickets to this. 10 years and i still havent seen nofx "I'm getting so fucking sick of this anti-religion/spirituality trip in punk rock" Times Square Nokia Theatre Capacity (Dropkick Murphys): 2,100 people NOFX & TLA lineup where NOFX plays the Decline fucking boner cant believe I'm missing that. I'll just drown that thought in blue smirnoff for now but it'll be back to haunt me, oh yes it will, a nagging feeling of loss and failure that'll taint the rest of my life like woodpeckers of despair. to irish dude-i don't think it's out of the question to say that the dropkick murphys are one of the top 5 most popular punk bands in the u.s. so yea, pretty big. I'm getting so fucking sick of this anti-religion/spirituality trip in punk rock. And that doesn't mean I listen to any bands who are christians... I'm a religious drunk and this is where I pray The bit about the guy from The Loved Ones having a go at Drokick Murphys..how big are they in the U.S?They never really took off in Ireland, because they're seen as a bit of a ,well, farce to be honest.I'm just curious how "big" that venue they played is etc. Wow, I can't believe they played the whole decline, I've heard them do parts of it before but never the whole thing. I can't wait for the 2nd Chicago show that is going be awsome. is there anywhere to download this show video or audio? Can't wait to see them at warped. I really want to see them play 'the decline' live. Larry Arms also played the version of Turnstyles from Cocktails and Dreams with the tip of the hat to Hot Water Music... which is always a plus. I'm so glad I'm going to the second NOFX show in Chicago... fuck the chatholics for not wanting the common peasant to be able to read the bible. even though the book is bullshit ,the average man should still have been allowed to read it. and screw them for killing thousands of people in god's name!! Arms are fucking ruling it on this tour, may they keep a-ruling. Say whatever you want, but seeing NOFX play the entire Decline live must be quite an amazing experience. Amazing. Let me say that again. AMAZING. To ridicule an entire religion because of the disgusting actions of a few sick, demented men is asinine. How many pedophile school teachers are there? Camp counselors? Babysitters? Coaches? Oh, but forget about all of that. Let's just pick on the Catholics because they're "weird." They like to do "weird" things like put ashes on their foreheads and molest little boys. amazing show, all three bands were spectacular and TLA had Oh! Calcutta! for sale at the show, haven't stopped listening to it. dear god i hope they play the decline at their second set in chicago.. but realistically they'll probably be too drunk and tired too... sigh. With Duke and Memphis both losing this week, do you suppose Duke falls to #2 with UConn at #1, 'Nova at #3, and Memphis possibly going down to 5 or 6 with the Zags moving up? "I don't get the shit-talking on Catholics. What exactly did they say? Let me guess...something about pedophile priests molesting children? How clever! How original! I wonder what was going on inside of Fat Mike's coked up brain..."Huh, huh...I looked on my calendar and it's Ash Wednesday. Wouldn't it be a cool idea if we put ashes on our foreheads and made fun of Catholics! Oh, I am so clever! I am so punk!" Im going to both shows in Chicago. probably leave after the 2nd time i can see the Decline cause there would be no better way to end a night. I agree beeg I'm quite well versed in Catholicism, and know quite a few intelligent Catholics; however, I don't think that puts the denomination against petty criticism. If Fat Mike's criticisms are stupid, then they should be recognized as such, and if not, then it's an opinion that should be heard. i wish i had gotten tickets to one of these before they all sold out. what an amazing lineup. if i was to see the decline live, i'd ask for nothing more in life i'm with theotherscott. this and the KD show last August are the two shows that i wish i went to so goddamn much. i can't imagine how sick this show was. I don't get the shit-talking on Catholics. I am so punk!" What did they say about the Dropkick Murphys? i knew i should have tried to buy tix earlier dammit, they also played 'radio' rancid reggae style cover at dc heres what i remember being played at the DC show Gosh I cant wait for them to come out to LA again. I have seen them 9 times and Im waiting to see them for a 10th. I love NOFX. Larry Arms are awesome too. I saw them with Lagwagon Thanksgiving weekend in Hollywood....good stuff. Would I get flamed if I sent in a review of the Larry Arms/Loved Ones show that was about two weeks late? it deeply saddens me that i couldn't make this show. Sounds really fun, and I'm not a fan of NOFX really crazy good show in ft. lauderdale, the best was being able to yell aloud "dont call me white" and not getting my ass kicked by a black security guard. Killer shows, Larry Arms have been stealing the show on this NY-NJ run. Loving all the gigs. In AC they played Straight Edge, Scavenger Type, the New Happy Birthday Song, and Reagan Sucks. And Fat Mike and Melvin put on bras that were thrown on stage. Great fucking show. err... I missed the part where you said they played Linoleum. My bad. We didn't get to hear "Bob" though. Sounds a lot like the Atlantic City show, at which Fat Mike announced they're too punk rock to be confined to the same set list every night, so they constantly change it up. Sounds like almost the same set list (although we did get Linoleum). sounded amazing.. i missed them last time in toronto.. tickets were sold out, but i guess i could go see them at warped.. blah. Yeah, this was a pretty fun show. I was pretty happy to hear those Punk in Drublic counts. |
