| NOFX / the Lawrence Arms / the Loved Oneslive in Washington, D.C.2006 live show Review by: Scruffy See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on March 10th 2006
It seems that my experience seeing the Loved Ones, the Lawrence Arms and NOFX is one shared by fans all across the country: The bands were amazing, and the NOFX fans tried their hardest to ruin everyone else’s time.

I'm over three months late on this, but the lyric is "he loves Dick but he hates homosexuals." Don't call douche-bags douch-gays, they're just fags. don't call gays gays, they're gender non-conformists. Don't call midgets midgets, they're dwarves! Okay, I'll give you that. There are contexts in which it can be appropriate. The examples you used were ones mocking someone who uses that word to describe black people. Scruffy said: "So, if you use the "N word" but you're not being malicious to black people, it's okay?" I think you must have a different dictionary than I do. goddammit, i really don't wanna start this argument here but there is nothing closed-minded about saying fag if you aren't being malicious towards gays. in fact, by definition, its more closed-minded to cast off anybody who uses that word as an insult. Dude below, I am the farthest thing from PC. In Cleveland nothing like this happened at all. Everyone I met was totally awesome, and all of the bands were respected, and had a great time. NOFX were amazing, as expected. Loved Ones and Lawrence Arms were incredible as well. I believe the actual joke is "for a man who hates gays, he sure loves Dick." As in Cheney, his vice president. Not Cock Cheney. "The Nation in D.C. is an enormous place. My wife and I were standing in the room with the merchandise when we heard the Loved Ones begin. Apparently, shows at the Nation start on time, not something I’m used to. They started off with “Suture Self” off of their recent Fat Wreck debut, Keep Your Heart. For the first song or two, no one was moving. Dave Hause was interacting with the crowd, trying to get them into it. The problem was that a legion of NOFX fans showed up early and planted themselves in the front, resolved to insult the other bands (and their fans), stand completely still and boo anyone on stage that was not NOFX. That didn’t matter. Those of us there for the opening acts got the crowd moving, and by the end of the Loved Ones' set, I was sweaty and sore from being beaten and shoved around, like you’re supposed to be at a good show. Hause mocked the kids up front, one of whom thought it proper to announce his hatred for the act of reading. Hause also mocked the security guards relentlessly." I missed every NOFX song until The Decline because I passed out and had to be dragged to the bathroom. But, from what I remember, it was an awesome show. Speaking of the Methadones, they are currently putting up tracks from their upcoming cover album on their myspace page... i'm glad people are talking about the methadones. they are really awesome. so are the riverdales too. Yeah seriously the Methadones are the shit. I saw them in 2001, great band. They need to tour more. O and fuck nofx, they fucking suck and all their songs sound the fucking same. NOFX - seriously, how many other punk bands totally hit their stride in the dead middle of their career? Usually the early stuff is great and then the band tends to go to shit. Nofx went from crappy (for like 6 years) to a period of greatness from 91-99 and then got really really old and tired. You know what would a good trend that started popping up in theses comments? Talking about The Methadones! from www.myspace.com/cbgb supposedly the loved ones bitched about not getting the godly treatment they think they deserve at cbgbs, at least there's a reference to it from cbgb themselves on their myspace lol. something about not getting water and towels and they actually bitched to cbgbs about it what's a good room with bots to download punk cds on the irc? sorry, I really like the Lawrence Arms and I think the Loved Ones are good, but i think nofx is better than either of em. Score's for the opening bands and all the shit Scruffys getting thrown at him from NOFX fans in this review. what a bad review. when u review a nofx show you should actually like nofx. i know alot of the nofx crowd can be dickheads but i guess the solution to this so called problem is to get unbelievably fucked before the show I envy your drunkenness. I had to drive all the way home to Ohio. Well, part of the way. More like two hours. Then a friend drove while I slept in the back. But still. Scruffy is right. A lot of NOFX fans are dickheads. They think they are sooooooo above radio rock, yet afraid to actually listen to other types of music. umm i was this show and i remember alot of shit talking from the fans and i was up at the front, im was drunk as fuck tho. but i really dont remember that much booing. i do remember dave hause making fun of that huge security guard and that kid who wasnt a reading fan Hey FuckYouOiOiOi, just in case you care to know. I was singing along in my friends beat up car to "I Heard They Suck Live" back when most of the fans at the show I was at were listening to boy bands, or possibly not even listening to music yet. The Methadones were amazing at that show. I recall their one guitar player being completely wasted, dropping his pick all the time, downing shots between songs, and spitting his pick in the air, catching it, and then continuing to play. That was my favorite Lawrence Arms show, too. There was so much older material in their set - it wasn't so splits/Fat Wreck heavy. i'm going to the lawrence arms show in madison on march 18, when they play with latterman and the blackout pact, and i was planning on writing a review, but given that there have been several recent lawrence arms reviews i might not bother Yeah, they were just standing there for Loved Ones but you know how much fucking energy they had during NOFX? maybe this should tell you something about the bands and not the kids... score is for me for being the drunkest one at the show the reviewers first problem is that he was there to see loved ones and lawrence arms and is unfamiliar with NOFX. ITS A FUCKING NOFX SHOW. nofx are punk legends, the kids are desparately waiting to see them and, yeah, some of them are douchebags. big fucking deal. the shit-talking of the loved ones actually heightened my enjoyment because the loved ones shit-talked them right back. all in all it was the best show i've ever been to. seeing nofx play the decline was a dream come true. 18 minutes of moshing....wow. Yeah, but the crowd wasn't witty. And they weren't nearly as intent on making the band suffer as they were to make everyone around them have a bad time. They were vindictive about having to listen to the openers. And, yeah, I complained about the audience. It severely distracted from my enjoyment of the evening. Ask people who went to any date on this tour to see the openers, and they'll probably agree. C'mon, it's a NOFX show, you got to expect the crowd to give EVERY band a hard time, even NOFX. Loved Ones got shit-talked but they shit-talked right back and did a awesome job doing so. The Lawrence Arms didn't talk much and since it was Chicago people didn't say bad things about them, at least from where I was. Yeah, it was the Wilhelm Scream/ Methadones show. Made me fall in love with the Methadones. It was sweet. So Scruffy here you were at a show I would gladly sacrifice my left nut to see (and let me tell you the left is the good one) and you spend the night bitching about the kids? The Loved Ones Sucked this was a great show...first time i saw the Lawrence Arms and Loved Ones Dude, American Steel was sweet. Nation is a shithole but it's also going to be one less place to see shows (not that they have many) once the baseball stadium is built and they clean out that area. 930 club and Sonar in Baltimore should be picking up what's left. Scruffy - I've heard other people comment on El Hefe's offensive jokes as well, anyone care to enlighten me on some of the things he said? For the Chicago song he said that Matt Skiba moved from Chicago to California for better cocaine. Oh what glorious comedy that was. Fat Mike did the same "California has better cocaine" thing for Cleveland, but it still was pretty entertaining. "...if no one else does it I'll give it a fair shot though because more people need to know about how Fat Mike was wearing nothing but a bra & panties for the majority of that show with his nutsack hanging out for a good 5 or 6 songs." I just got back from Loved Ones w/ None More Black - also in D.C. - and they were playing with a second guitarist (from Paint it Black). Holy crap... that's what their sound was missing. A vast improvement over the last time I saw them, and I hope they'll add a second guitarist permanently. Someone write a review for the 18 and over NOFX show in Chicago... I don't want to do it because I suck at writing reviews. |
