After listening to the sampler that came with the February/March issue of AMP, I’m now going to have to buy it when ever it’s released. The sampler introduced me to four outstanding bands: No Trigger, the Loved Ones, Skylines, and Flee the Seen. I didn’t exactly expect much from this band, especially after I saw their press photo, but damn this was a surprise.

Kim Anderson is easily the best female vocalist in the scene right now. And unlike some female vocalists, she isn’t the only thing that will gather people’s attention (Lacuna Coil, Paramore). Kim Anderson’s mellow singing vocals are dead on, and she perfectly delivers the emotion around the choruses. You could probably describe her voice as a stronger version of Tsunami’s Bomb vocalist Agent M. At times her male counterparts handle the vocals, which range from some laid back singing (think the Forecast) on tracks like "I’ll Be Back on Sunday," to the high-pitched snarls layered behind Anderson’s singing on "Wire Tap Out."

Musically, Flee the Seen try to at least keep it different. The music can pretty much be described as post-hardcore. At times, like on "Wire Tap Out," the music also features a few breakdowns and slower hardcore-ish moments. On "I’ll Be Back on Sunday," the music is almost dreamy, filled with a mix of R.L. Brooks' and Anderson’s mellow vocals to create the perfect atmosphere for the song.

Flee the Seen are one hell of a surprise. Not only do they bring one of the best female vocalists ever, they actually back it with worthy music and don’t have to be carried by the vocals alone. If you're looking for a slightly different and fresh taste in this scene, or are just looking for something to fill the void of the now defunct Tsunami Bomb, check this out.

I'm also friends with these guys, and I'm probably just being biased, but I love the album.

Also, just to correct some statements that were made: They're not a Christian band, Facedown Records was actually looking to expand their base past the Christian Harcore scene and signed a secular band. I won't name names but two of the band members are openly Christian...two of them are "not-so-openly" Christian. Either way, the band does not consider themselves to be a Christian band, nor do they consider their music to be used as spreading the word of Christianity, which I think would be required for a band to be considered "Christian."

Either way, I'm proud of these guys. I know its not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm digging it. Good day.

Full on ten, these guys (and gal) started in my area, I know them personally, I caught them at a band practice and I was expecting nothing less than an outstanding record. I couldn't be happier for the four of them. The music they make is a great thing for the scene, for Hardcore Kids, and Indie Kids. I can't wait to hear the next CD I'm already, too anxious.

I agree 100% with the last post.

I have no problem with Christians who are really Christians. I personally don't believe that Jesus was the messiah, but I don't think that you can attack people for believing in that. Being against people for their actions makes no sense- We can only judge peoples' reason. I find that a lot of Christians abuse their religion as an excuse to forcefeed their values on society and manipulate others, but I have common sense to know that that's not what the religion actually stands for.

Non-hypocritical Christianity and punk ethics coincide. Think about it. Human equality fighting against racism, classism, sexism, etc. (some will argue against the sexism part, but look at when the Bible was written. God is sexless, but He/She wants you to know Him/Her personally. That's part of the reason for personifying. Anyways, women weren’t looked upon with high esteem, so it would’ve been hard to refer to God as She.) Jesus went against the political and religious leaders. He went amongst the “sinners,” the sick, and the poor. It’s like that quote from Ghandi that I think goes “I like your Christ. I do no like your Christians.” I don’t like hypocritical Christians either, but I do like the ones who love and do not judge, believe it or not, there are some out there without all this crazy aborted baby pictures and Bush loving. Believe what you want to believe (I don’t like when people force their beliefs on people either), but let me believe what I believe.

I'm pretty sure this band is from around my area (Missouri). Either that, or they just always play crappy shows around here for no reason.
