Street Dogs - State of Grace

Never do I get sent a record and one or two days later am already online posting a review of it unless it is one of two things: so musically or politically offensive that I have to call it out on its bullshit, or impressing me beyond belief.

Rise and Fall get themselves into the second of these categories by crafting this pummeling blend of thrashy metallic hardcore á la Tragedy and From Ashes Rise. These Belgian men flew over to work with Kurt Ballou at God City Studios in Salem, MA to record Into Oblivion. Kurt has a tendency to really capture the dirge and dirt of bands as they are meant to be in their rawest state.

Not only does this record just pummel, but its socially concious lyrics give bands of this nature the edge over all of the trite music that is being put out on a weekly basis. Realistically, this record can possibly be at the end of many people's top of 2006's lists, and if you enjoy anything of a heavy nature then you will not be disapointed.

well i'm just saying that i listen to music i like. i'm no 'trust fund' kid, so don't throw that one at me.

i don't see what kind of formula these guys follow, they may sound like or even blatantly rip-off other bands, but that they don't sound like the majority of hardcore bands in existance today.

all youth crew hardcore sounds the same, doesn't stop people from listening.

to the guy below me, I was just using that ten years thing as a way of stressing the fact that they are another throw away carbon copy band. They follow a formula and won't stand the test of time. I personally don't have the time or money for bands like this. Maybe trust fund kids do but I know nothing of that world.

dude that's totally my criteria when listening to new bands!!

i say to myself "will i like this in 10 years?" and if the answer is "no", then i certainly don't listen....

    My Score:

Not bad, not good. Another throw away band. There are so many these days. Honestly now, how many of these records do you think you'll still be listening to ten years from now?

Geez...sorry guys. I wrote this review out of the sheer "awesomeness" of the record. I literally got it in the mail and about 30 min. later I was writing a review about it. I am glad I can bring the bad reviews back to Punknews.org not all of us can be perfect. hahah

    This review is hilarious.
It's just so amazingly bad, yet it's written by an awesome dude.

blood, skulls and ladies can never get old!

Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 7:17 PM (EST)

I second the sickness of Deathwish artwork.

Is he TRYING to make all of his band's albums look the same?

Seriously, the blood/skulls/ladies thing is old.

This shit is pretty good. Unfortunately, Atreyu was given a higher score.

Anyone else see the problem there?
