I had been looking forward to the end of March since I heard that Alkaline Trio and Against Me! were touring together. Took off early from work and go on I-40 West towards Las Vegas, after dealing with traffic over Hoover Dam and finding my way through the schtzophrenic inhabitants of Las Vegas, I arrived at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino about 45 minutes before the show started. There was a ton of people already standing in line in between slot machines and poker tables; having never been to "The Joint", I had no idea where to go, so I wandered around the casino like a lost puppy and finally saw a 21+ line and made it into the hall. This place is probably one of the biggest venues indoor venues I've ever been in. Making my way to the cavernous back bar, I picked up a beer and headed down near the stage and impatiently waited the 25 minutes before the 8 P.M. start time (a word of advice, if you are planning on attending this show, Against Me! goes on right on the scheduled start time).
The first part of the set list is pretty easy, but I'll try and tell you most of the other songs in no particular order; I think I got most of them, but then again it was a fuzzy night:
This is an awesome tour package. Alkaline Trio and Against Me! are both on top of their game and I definitely recommend seeing it. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
Alkaline Trio was crap compared to Against Me! in Boston. My friends and I left early cause they sucked just TOO much. AM! definitely should have been headlining, so solid. So I'm responding to fritobandito or whatever your name was. great show, but im sure both sets are wrong. Went to the Orlando HOB show last night. Both bands played amazing sets -- although Against Me!, while playing around 45 mins, could have played a Hell of a lot longer, for my money. "Yeah, I'm going to Nation." "why the heck does everyone dislike crimson so much? i thought it rocked hard, and was really just a natural extension from good mourning, which was a natural extension of from here to infirmary. pretty sweet progression, i think." "even songs off of Crimson sounded really good" One final observation/suggestion if you go see this tour: Don't yell "PLAY 'RADIO!'" The band is going to close with it, don't worry. Yeah, I'm going to Nation. Just got back from the HOB Orlando show, best ALK3 set ever! I joined Blood Pact a few years ago to get the Halloween 7 inch but never sent in my card because I thought it was stupid. Now I wish I had. Newsflash: the "mall kids" already like Against Me!. comon philly kids, please get '97 on there, please please please please.. "Oh, to be in town for those shows..." have they played cooking wine. i am going to the DC show and I want to hear cooking wine, my friend peter and 97 plus a lot more. But I haven't wanted to drop the 20 bucks to join the blood pact. is anyone in that? see the comment a few lines down... i did a mistype, and didn't catch it before it was posted. I didn't know there was a jeff in against me They need to finish with 97. just saw them in Atlanta last night...heres the set the played: Andburntherest, is a 90 pound weakingling. Dear AlbertFreddyIngram, i agree with will on that one. except about their music being blah. SFAC was so much better than Eternal Cowboy, though RAR takes the cake. they arleady got crazy critical acclaim on this last record so that won't happen any more from beign on a major. i think they'll get maybe to bouncing souls size sucess, but the mall kids won't like it. and that's where the money is I honestly don't see Against Me making it on a major, from a business perspective. Their whole appeal was that they wrote songs passionately about politics and whatever, and I'm not saying that goes out the window when they sign to a major, but it's hard to find an audience for political-oriented punk that's not either really immature (ala Anti Flag) or super into DIY policies. Their music also sits on the fence these days. It's not clean, it's not dirty, it's just... blah. Saw this show tonight in Atlanta. AM! only played for 30 minutes...and no one was into it AT FUCKING ALL. Disappointing as shit. hopefully someday when Against Me! has been consistantly popular for over a decade and are even further pale imitations of their former selves, they'll do an "early songs" tour too. No "My Friend Peter"? "There's no way it was past December '99, since that's when they kicked Glenn out of the band. Mike Felumlee's first show was '99's Winter Nationals in Chicago (and his second show was in Cherry Valley, Illinois, in January 2000 -- I know because I booked it)." hey scott I just got back from seeing this tour... holy shit. I'll be at all three nights in Chicago. I'm sooooo awesome. blah blah blah. I'm stoked as hell for this milwaukee show on the 30th You have no idea how glad i am that i got to see Against Me! long before they started playing bullshit venues for bullshit prices on bullshit package tours. Sold the fuck out, don't need my support anymore. Amazing set. I saw 'em at both shows in Perth, AUS a month ago and they were on the top of their game then aswell- with the over 18's selling out and the band clearly had a good time. The setlist was mostly Crimson though- which is okay cos I love that album to. (not in order) "On the setlist, you listed Bleed before Radio, did you mean Bleeder? Has any locals been opening for them, or is it just AM! and ALK3? Does anyone know about this at the Denver show on the 26th? I may not get to the show on time. Hopefully, my friend won't have to work late. I don't wanna miss any of AM!'s set. "hey scott i was reading your review of FHTI a few weeks ago an i noticed that you called Sleepyhead your least favorite AK3 song ever. which is weird cause its probably my favorite. so here's to them playing that song in NYC an not in Clevland!" On the setlist, you listed Bleed before Radio, did you mean Bleeder? I refuse to believe both bands played for that long. I seen AM! couple weeks ago in newport wales and they played for about 45 mins only. the fourth guy, unless there was some weird change, is Nolan. he used to guitar tech but moved to tour manager when they decided that since their name is the alkaline trio maybe they should only have 3 guys on stage. Probably one of the most exciting tours in a longggg time. hey scott i was reading your review of FHTI a few weeks ago an i noticed that you called Sleepyhead your least favorite AK3 song ever. which is weird cause its probably my favorite. so here's to them playing that song in NYC an not in Clevland! I was lucky to attend this show. I agree that am! put on a lovely show, but they seemed more tired than the last time I saw them in October, plus, I was surprised more people did not show more enthusiasm for their performance. It was almost as if they did not know who they were, on the other hand, Alkaline trio was tens times better than last time I saw them in San Diego. There's no way it was past December '99, since that's when they kicked Glenn out of the band. Mike Felumlee's first show was '99's Winter Nationals in Chicago (and his second show was in Cherry Valley, Illinois, in January 2000 -- I know because I booked it). "Mother fucker, I remember when I was a freshman at Purdue, we got Alkaline Trio to play in the basement of this church on campus for $200 bucks!! That was back in the fall of 99... my buddies and I were pissing ourselves over Goddammit, that album was the shit back then and still is. I'm gonna be in fucking Australia when they come to LA... damn." Such a raging boner right now. I am going to have the time of my fucking live at this show in Cleveland. Such a raging boner right now. I am going to have the time of my fucking live at this show in Cleveland. DAMMIT. That's one nice setlist for A3. I'm pissed I'm going to miss this tour. i'm going to get to see this in cleveland (thanks Xine!) ...though i really wish the trio would play "old school reasons" oook. i was hoping they'd play more off of MICF. oh well maybe thet set will change for the NYC show I heard that they are playing like everything off Godammit but then like all the other songs they are going to let members of the Blood Pact choose.... but I could be wrong so don't quote me on that. "Who the fuck is Jeff? Was Andrew not there? Man, Alkaline Trio are playing all their old hits, but no '97? nation, next week anyone? That looks like a great setlist. I am so looking forward to seeing this show in Hartford it's ridiculous. Score is for ALK3's setlist, that's amazing, I'm gonna have to go to that show when it hits MA. Seen Against Me! in February. saw against me in leeds on 18th March and they played an even mix from the 3 full lengths - did no new tracks though. they could do with rerecording impact as the production on the original doesn't help it Mother fucker, I remember when I was a freshman at Purdue, we got Alkaline Trio to play in the basement of this church on campus for $200 bucks!! That was back in the fall of 99... my buddies and I were pissing ourselves over Goddammit, that album was the shit back then and still is. I'm gonna be in fucking Australia when they come to LA... damn. Can't wait for it to stop by my neck of the woods. Great review, thanks for the setlists. Can't wait to see the Larry arms and the Trio in Canada. I was at this show. Went to Vegas from Vancouver just to see it. To be honest, I was a little dissapointed. I've seen both bands many times before and it just didn't do it for me. Maybe it was cause the venue was so big. Oh well, I guess I'd better get used to it... This makes me look even more forward to the 6 dates im going to. Best time Ive ever had at a concert. The trio played the shit out of all their songs. Great, Great show. They had the crowd going for almost two hours. Everyone in the place was screaming at the top of their lungs. I couldnt believe they played for so long. Private eye was a highlight for me and everyone else in the place...also, i could of sworn i heard Fuck You Aurora, but ive been wrong before. Thank you ALkaline Trio for giving me my moneys worth. "and stared vacantly as Tom, Jeff, James, and Warren came on stage" That AM! list is amazing. Even At Our Worst, We're Better Than Most, Cavalier Eternal, and I Still Love You Julie seem surprising. i was at this show too, and i swear that alkaline trio played almost a 2 hour set. i know it was definitely more than an hour and a half. There have been few tours in history that have gotten me as excited as this one. This makes me kind of excited for sunday's show, however, I thought the point of the tour was for alk3 to play songs they don't play often, "Private Eye", "This Could Be Love" and "Radio" are all mainstays, I would likedto see them replaced with "My Frined Peter", "Cooking Wine" "Fuck You Aurora" or something (but people will want blood if they don't play 'radio'), but I'll take it, especially if Skiba plays Good Fucking Bye. As for AM!'s set, pretty much what I expected I had heard it was heavy on "searching" material! good fucking bye?!?!?! they played the closest the tour was going to get to me last night, and i fucking missed it. goddamn work, i sat and did homework for 4 hours instead of driving to dallas to catch this. FUCK Hour and a 1/2 set? Yikes. That might be a little too much A3 for me... This show looks incredible. That's usually the size of the set list Against Me! will play when they're headlining. I will not be happy if I miss this. last time i saw alkaline trio was the best. a weird setlist with radio played in the middle. though blue in the face was the closer which sucked ass, they played a lot of unexpected jams. that was the tour after the good mourning tour before the crimson tour |
