Ed Gein’s second full-length, Judas Goats & Dieseleaters, was the first album that I listened to that could be classified as grind. While I know it’s fairly new, I still have to give it props for introducing me into the grind genre. The thing about grind is a majority of the listeners will hear nothing but deep-throated growls and high-pitched shrieks and label it off as screaming for the sake of screaming. The saddest part about that is that some of the bands in this genre are pretty talented, while others, like Watchmaker, throw their songs together and write them inside the studio. Thankfully, Ed Gein stays on the talented side and doesn’t just use hundreds of tempo changes each song to classify as being technical.

Dude that is loud! What about my crappy old grind band? HAHAHAHAHAHA I find it funny that the 'People who liked this also like:' shows a Fallout Boy CD. I played drums in a grind band for one show. I don't think anyone there "got" us. Or maybe we were just really horrible (We'd only had one practice). Feeding, my hands are full trying to convince Jack Kelly to regroup Negative FX and writing a review denouncing SSD's metal album. Ed Gein is excellent, and so is this album, but it's not a grindcore album at all. It's just some really heavy shit that draws a lot from Botch and the like without being a derivative pile of crap. I once read a review of a good riddance album somewhere on the internet that described that band as "grindcore" I still laugh my ass off about that. "Eh, I don't know...this isn't my kind of "grind." The crustier it gets, the better it is. Not this." Has anyone reviewed "Scum"? Because I don't want to have to review it...I'm not qualified. Will? Maybe? terrible review. why review something from a genre you know nothing about? you lose all credibility that way. and what's with the watchmaker comment? Tracks like "Killing the Co-Worker" and "We’re Drowning in It" slow it down and mix elements of metalcore with grind and tons of chaotic riffs over an abundance of shouting. good, but i still think its a shame is better A good record; a little hard to get into at first, but all the craziness gives way after a few listens. I was saying Judas Goats & Dieseleaters was new and introduced me into the grind scene. Grind a new genre? Where the fuck have you been? Hahaha. Isn't this the guy that gave Atreyu 9 or something? And now he's pretending to school people on "grind" (which this isn't). Grind a new genre? Where the fuck have you been? I think Watchmaker is better than Ed Gein. Eh, I don't know...this isn't my kind of "grind." The crustier it gets, the better it is. Not this. def not as good as it's a shame Macabre still made the best Ed Gein homage. i love these guys, but i dunno....this album is kinda dry. not very interesting. A great thrash/grind/punk album that probably would be listed as one of the sleeper hits of 2005. I think Watchmaker is better than Ed Gein. |
