Hmmm.....new band on No Idea? Do they sound like Hot Water Music, or Small Brown Bike? Maybe....

I can't give a complete detailed story on where Gunmoll came from and if they have some insane local following in Gainesville. I can tell you that Gunmoll rock. Think along the lines of Planes Mistaken for Stars/Hot Water Music/As Friends Rust. Good stuff, right? I'm going to assume that "Anger Management in Four Chords or Less" (isn't that one helluva album title?) is the debut full length from these guys. It combines, great up-tempo riffs, shout-along choruses, throbbing baselines. Not to mention vocalist Mike Hale's snotty/screamy/at times melodic voice.

As usual with the No Idea bands, without a lyric sheet its a little difficult to decipher what the hell they guys are talking about. Good stuff, no less, I'm sure.

I know this was not exactly what you look for when you read about a band, and surely some hardcore Gunmoll fan will criticize my attempt to capture the essence of this album in words. Bullocks to you...

    My Score:

This is my favorite cd. It's AMAZING. They are in the same catergory as Hot Water Music and Small Brown Bike but i wouldnt say they sound liek either of them.....Gunmoll is better. Its just an incredible aggresive, angry, hard cd. They rock live too.

I just got this in the mail today, and am pretty happy with it. Thanks for the recommendation, sickboi. I'd say they're kind of a Hot Water Music/Leatherface/Small Brown Bike mix, but a lot more straightforward and sloppier [which in this case is good].

    I WANT THIS RECORD!!!

Seriously, I've seen these guys live a few times, got the demo, and I want this so badly I can taste it. Unfortunately I have no money, and no one has it on Audiogalaxy (hint, hint).

Anyway, if the LP sounds like their live show and the demo, I think you did an excellent job of describing them. I think their songwriting is a bit more straightforward than Hot Water Music or Small Brown Bike (do I dare compare them to the almighty Leatherface? Ooops, I guess I already did), but those are good comparisons. Their singer is totally intense live, too.

You know, you probably wrote the only review this band will ever get that doesn't have the words "former member of Less Than Jake" in it, congratulations.
