Taking their biggest cues from `80s hardcore and horror punk -- of course, we’re talking Misfits fans here -- Covered in Bees’ debut album is a bit confusing at first, with vocals jumping between an over-done Danzig impression to throaty screaming, and silly song titles about monsters (“Zombees,” “Swampman” and “Spiderlady”) and love (“Portland Is for Lovers” and “Revolutionary Theories on the Geometry of Heartbreak”). Are they serious?

they might not be good, but at least they are awesome. I bet 99% of the people reading this don't even know who Covered In Bees is. I can tell you what they aren't: good, and that's for sure. Poster directly below: Unfortunately, this was a review of the band's album, not live show. Being "turned off at first" would never had happened for the writer of this article, had he seen the band live before taking a listen to the album. The band attacks many genres in the music world. They do what they do so well it's their own. Not only do they take the music "not too seriously" they approach life that way. Live, the overall energy of the band is spastic, intense, and fun. Watching the fans only compounds that feeling. The members of the band are real enough to want to spend time with. No doubt, some of my favorite people and one of my favorite bands. Glad to see you caught the element of fun... that seems to be the one thing these guys are really about, besides just plain ROCK! Ask any of the band's fans, and they'll tell you how little attitude you get at a live Bees show! Everyone is just there to have a damn good time with their friends. *grin* Fuck bees. If I ever got attacked by bees, I would punch every bee in the face. Now...flying horses, that's some scary shit. |
