When Lollapalooza was announced last year as a one-city, weekend festival, I was excited to find that Chicago was getting something of this caliber…then they announced the lineup. Needless to say, I was a little disappointed at the small amount of bands I wanted to see there with the high price tag that also comes with a festival of this caliber. This year’s Lollapalooza arrived with almost identical feelings. There were a handful of bands there I was interested in seeing over the course of the weekend, but nothing I’d be willing drop $150 on for a three-day pass, or even $60 for one.

Manu Chao was the only reason I would have gone to Lollapalooza, and this sack of shit does not even mention him... Jeez this forum is vicious. GIve the guy a break. Y'know it's lucky that there's even a review of Lollapalooza on this website. To be honest I wouldn't be caught dead at that festival with that appauling lineup. The whole notion of putting rap and hip hop artists and dance groups on the same stage as rock, metal and punk acts is terrible I think. Music festivals are better when they stick to certain styles I find. "the music left much to be desired for all except the trendiest of new music fans." That was a vague piece of crap review. Don't bother wasting our time with anymore shitty reviews if you couldn't be bothered going to see the bands. What the hell did you do on Day 1???! Did you actually see Broken Social Scene at Lolla?? Because they are a great band and they played one of the best shows at the festival. "You fucking moron. You missed Broken Social Scene--with all original members and all the female vocalists (Amy, Emily, Feist)!!! You missed what would've been one of the best shows of your life. Idiot." Gnarls Barkley suck(s). Only thing I agree with in the review. hey william, its cool you admit that this review was sub-par. definetly look into sleater-kinney though. I would fucking love to see kanye west or GB. *know that much more As nivek82 mentioned, Sonic Youth sounded like shit. I only saw the end of their set though, so I didn't feel qualified to make comment upon it. whoever wrote this review has no taste in music, and didnt deserve to get to go to lolla for free. i was there, he saw the wosrt bands there. this years fest was the best one yet, and the crowds werent that bad. this guy should be fired. seriously. fuck him. Uhhh, where was Sonic Youth? I'm not an emo kid and I don't hate life. I enjoyed some parts of the festival, some of the things you mentioned I saw and was let down by, others, like QOTSA were good. I'm not "anti-" anything, like someone else mentioned either. Usually, anything I write, all the elitist punknews kids are coming out to tell me how much those bands suck (e.g. Flogging Molly, Reel Big Fish). Now that I write that I wasn't interested in a specific festival that much, it's ME that's all of a sudden"anti" and "an emo kid that hates life"? the reviewer sounds like some poser emo kid who hates life. i dont know how long the sets of each band are but Id pay 30 easily just to see QOTSA, just to see Kinney, just to see Chili Peppers, plus to throw in all the other bands each day. Ryan Adams alright, Built to Spill is really good worth another 20, Id be interested in Patton, and Gnarls Barkley, Horton Heat, Violent Femms, and thats just like a quarter of the big acts. I wasn't at lollapolooza but I know most of the acts i just listed ussually put on amazing shows and I couldn't believe any night would be terrible or not worth the money, from the artist line up this sounded like the fest of the summer and even if most of the bands were a let done im sure it would still be worth the 60 dollar price tag a day. ( disclosure: its 3:30 PAC TiME I just got home from the bars. im drunk and babbling) the reviewer sounds like some poser emo kid who hates life. i dont know how long the sets of each band are but Id pay 30 easily just to see QOTSA, just to see Kinney, just to see Chili Peppers, plus to throw in all the other bands each day. ( disclosure: its 3:30 PAC TiME I just got home from the bars. im drunk and babbling) Uhhh, where was Sonic Youth? Sleater-Kinney's last fucking show? The Hold Steady? These are some of the funniest comments i have read in a long time. Okay, in response to all the negative shit on here, yes this was a very shitty review. It wasn't written in much time and without much effort. In retrospect, I should never have written it, but I saw that no one had posted anything on the event, so I figured I'd throw up my general feelings about it. Of course, once I did that, everyone finally had something to say. Again, the review was shitty. I'll admit that. To the person who said I could do better, he was right and I apologize. An absolutely terrible review. You are a moron. And shame on punknews.org for posting this crap. I did not attend in 96', but didn't Nick Cave play also? That was a shitty ass review. Day 1 let's talk about the art work?? Anyway, Sleater-Kinney played an amazing set. Finished off with Turn It On, what a treat that was. Best Lollapalooza was 1996. The Ramones, Rancid, Metallica, and Soundgarden. Best Lollapalooza was 1996. The Ramones, Rancid, Metallica, and Soundgarden. Best Lollapalooza was 1996. The Ramones, Rancid, Metallica, and Soundgarden. But it was when The Ramones were in a good place and everyone loved And Out Come the Wolves. Hate to be a dick, but why is this review even on Punknews? Ok... I can see the Sleater-Kinney connection, and the Smoking Popes, but most of the other bands that would even play this kind of festival are not related to punk rock in ANY way. Waste of bandwidth, save it for another site. i think there's more photos of loogies on the ground and random dudes playing xbox than bands. you can tell the experience was overwhelming for the guy. complete waste of my time, this review that is did anyone look at the pictures? holy christ, i think a blind man could have managed better ones. they are literally the worst concert photos i've ever seen, they easily beat the horribleness of the review Wow. Aren't you a music journalist? Shouldn't you be telling us useful information, instead of dull rants about how Lollaplooza was lacking? Seriously, if punknews.org would like to keep up their rep as a decent review site, they should probably send people to shows who will write something worth reading. That was the worst article I've ever read, "so if you’re looking for reviews on Death Cab, Kanye, or Chili Peppers, you won’t find them here". Thanks man, actually isn't that the reason people would read your review in the first place? Get over yourself, you're not saving music by being anti. Grow up, stop writing, join your angry friends in a session of "why we hate the world" and move on with your life. Most of all, next time you write, write with the audience in mind, not yourself. Meh, i dont usually insult reviews, but I have to say, this kind of sucked. I don't understand this review. It's like this guy didn't even want to go to the show, skipped out on seeing any new bands that he hadn't heard before (which seems like most bands on the billing), than proceeded to give the show a bad review. Day 1 was the slow day? Day 1 was the only day worth that actual price. I'm going to join the "What the fuck is the point of this review?" line of people. The Roots are wonderful. why did you even go if you had no interest in any of the bands? you went in miserable and came out miserable. then wrote a miserable review. "Review is pretty much pointless" wow...please don't ever write a review again william! that was the worst review i've ever read. do you even like music? jeez louise that was worthless If you want a good live hip-hop band, Common is not the way to go (and I like the guy.) Why even write this review, it sounds like you saw about 6 bands for not even an entire set and you think you really got a feel for the festival, terrible aisde from being spot on with the radness of the popes, this review pretty much sucks ballls. Lollapalooza was one of the best weekends i've had in a long time. a killer lineup, good production (as far as staging a massive destination festival). and not staying for deathcab or kanye? shame on you, sir. Thank god Matisyahu is almost over. "Dude, he's like a Hasidic Jew that dancehall raps and sings!!! It's like totally not a gimmick." "This is thte best Lollapalooza EVER." to miss broken social scene is to be a dick. idiot! this is one of the worst reviews ive ever read... the thing thats most upsetting is the expection that ceelo green would sound like mf doom just because theyve had the same production... i worked security all weekend at this, and i can safely tell you that this review is worthless. he says that friday was a slow day. hmm, let's look at the bands that played on friday: Ugh, and no interest in Gnarls Barkley?!?!!?! Didn't watch Kanye? Chose not to view Death Cab? Had no interest in Common? Dude it's cool that you missed Sleater-Kinney. I'm sure you flew out to Portland the next weekened to see one of the greatest rock bands of all time's final shows. Why did you even go? Seriously, doesn't sound like you really wanted to. This sounds more like you just kinda walked around for an hour or 2.....on 3 separate days. That review was absolutely terrible. Should never have been posted. You fucking moron. You missed Broken Social Scene--with all original members and all the female vocalists (Amy, Emily, Feist)!!! You missed what would've been one of the best shows of your life. Idiot. you missed one of sleater kinney's last shows on day 1. and did you write this review in 10 minutes? come on, you can do better than that. I am sickened. This is thte best Lollapalooza EVER. What a douchebag reviewer. William_David sucks sooooo hard at reviewing, just thought I would share that with everyone ryan adams was amazing on friday of lollapalooza. haha, you saw this instead of the adolescents/street dogs The dude who wrote this is an asshole, and is offending me with his terrible taste. What a fucking bummer review. kind of a boring review, i didn't even really learn much about the bands he did see yeah sleater kinney played. uphree's is better though. didnt sleater kinney play? Umphree's McGee was the best band on this tour. I wasn't there, but my friend called me while she was watching the Smoking Popes so I could hear part of their set. Score's for the Popes. |
