I remember walking in the door to work one day and hearing this growling undistinguishable voice blasting out of the stereo. I ask my co-workers

"What the fuck is this?"
"Just some band from england called Leatherface" one replied."

I had heard of Leatherface in the past, but the music itself was new to me.

The first song I heard was "Wax Lyrical" And my jaw dropped, I was pretty amazed at this band, so sloppy sounding, but yet a lot emotion behind it.

As I started the CD over..I was hoping the other songs would blow me away like "wax lyrical" did. The song "andy" reassured me immediately. as did the others like "punch (drunk)" "eat her face" "deep green beautiful leveling" and "gang party". This made me a L-face fan right off, and I've been one ever since.

Ok, now on to Hot Water Music; actually they caught me by suprise, I hadnt even seen the cover of this CD yet, so I assumed what I was hearing was a full length Leatherface album, which was not the case. It's cool though because I had been a Hot Water Music fan for for years so some new HWM material was great to hear.

These have to be some of the best songs HWM has released to date. The band has always been known for the raw emotion they bring to their live shows and their albums as well. And this is a true testament to that fact.

To wrap it up, this was one of my favorites of '99 just a great record by two great bands, one, I've been a fan of for years, and a band I will be a fan of for years to come.

i borrowed this off a friend last october, and i never listened to more than 3 of the HWM songs because i would think, well, these are okay, but there are 6 beautiful songs at the beginning of this CD.

yeah, "fuel for the hate game" has got to be the best HWM release ever.

Nearly every single Leatherface release is perfect... you should hunt them down and buy them all. Definitely my all-time favourite band.

I give it an 8 for HWM as well. The best stuff I've heard from them, but still slowing Leatherface's roll.

probably the worst HWM songs ever released. fan of "hate game," but i'm bored. l-face has a refreshing anger to them.

I was introduced to Leatherface and HWM at the same time, but not on this CD--when they first toured live a year and a half ago.

HWM was great, but at the time I couldn't understand the appeal of Leatherface. I just thought they were boring.

Three months later I bought this split just to get some more Hot Water Music and now I can't get enough of Leatherface. Their half of the split is just fuckin' perfect, each song excellent.

The HWM side is good, probably one of the best collections they've ever released. but now HWM completely bores me. For the superfans of Hot Water, check out Fuel's "Monuments to Excess" (recently re-released on Broken ReKids). Not to be confused with the radio Fuel, these guys were an 88-89 East Bay punk band that HWM has essentially copied to a "T", unbeknowest to too many for too long.

"The Bitter End" is HWM's best song ever, period. But the version on this split is completely inferior to the version on their split 7" with Six Going on Seven [on Some Records]. That version blows away this CD version. If you have no record player, you can get the 7" version on HWM's "Never Ender" singles collection on No Idea.

i saw both of this bands live in chicago and they fucking rule. Hot water music has to be one my favorite bands of all time. i just love the emotion they put into each song. i haven't heard all of the songs on this cd, but belive me you have to see them live. the Bitter End rules !!

Maybe we could stop posting reviews that DON'T ACTUALLY TELL YOU ANYTHING ABOUT THE MUSIC?

i agree with you that letherface is a good band, but HWM is darn right annoying. Wax Lytergical is a great song. it gets an 8 b/c of the HWM.
