Fifth Hour HeroNot Revenge...Just a Vicious Crush (2006)No Idea Records Reviewer Rating: User Rating: Contributed by: Ben_Conoley (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on September 5th 2006
When I was teaching grade 11 history last year, I tried to incorporate music into every class. I figured it would interest the kids while at the same time give them an idea of the kind of music I listened too when I wasn’t tucking in my shirt. I never wanted to be the teacher that tried to look cool, so I considered myself fortunate to like music that the majority of my students really weren’t into, although most of them did like music that falls into the ever less-meaningful category of punk rock. On days when I couldn’t find a song that somehow fit into what we were doing, I would just turn the stereo on and play whatever I had brought with me for the drive that day until the students were settled all around and at least a few minutes of class time had been spent.

I bought this album just on the merit of this review, and it turned out being one of the best music purchases I've made in a while. Great stuff. No, they're not on tour now. They're playing the Fest though i'm seriously thinking about getting this album... are they on tour or something? That was an amazing tour, and some of the most fun I've ever had at shows (I was at the Richmond Hill and Toronto dates). Unfortunately, I just couldn't really get into their first full-length aside from a couple songs. I will definitely give this a shot though. Not Revenge... Just A Vicious Crush is probably one of this year's hidden gems. I gotta start incorporating music as well in my classes. Good call. this is definitely in my top 10 for the year. i would have to side with the person below me that "a light on you" is definitely one of the best songs on the cd. "burning the fields down" is my current favorite. not a bad song on the whole cd. Score is for teaching. I play a lot of HWM and The Weakerthans when I teach my Senior English classes. The kids at first hated it, but now they miss it when we don't get time to listen to music. This record is actually incredible. It's like they stepped it up from a really good band to a truly amazing band. Seriously awesome. Kick ass band, great record, and one of the prettiest goddamn pieces of wax that I own. If the 'misplaced acoustic track' is "A Light On You", then I must disagree. Probably the second best track after the opener, and certainly a much better song then the other semi-acoustic closer. this reviewer should write more, I like the way his gristle is chiseled. I've seen this band twice. They are fucking awesome I was really pleasantly suprised by this record. I forgot all about this band, looks like i need to pick this up. I'm still upset Molotov Rocktails got cancelled, I need to pick up this album. Hmm it's gonna be hard to beat "you have hurt my buisness....." but i'm gonna get this. I like this band...gonna have to check this album out soon I saw them on said tour in Ottawa. Good times. This album finally came out, and I tracked it down. There's something about them that is irresistable... This is a record I need to listen to really loud to really connect with otherwise it somehow fades to background music. However when they have my attention this band just mesmerizes me. | Features
