Review by: Eddie See others by this writer www.LeftyBand.com (link) Only registered users can post comments Published on September 21st 2001 This is probably the first time that when I bought a CD based solely on one song, has backfired on me. After hearing their great first single "Girls" (which pretty much identifies them as another pop-punk band to follow in the footsteps of other bands like New Found Glory with songs about girls) on the radio, I figured the rest of the CD would be great, which usually works when I buy CDs. But not this time. I was really hoping the rest of the CD would be like "Girls," a fast and catchy punk song, with lyrics that seem to define girls with ironic lyrics (and pretty good vocals from Dennis Hill, which I find out later changes, but for the better, in different songs), that reflect the stuff that girls do to annoys guys, but ends with "Wish I didn't need them." Unfortunately, I was dissapointed with several songs, that are either too slow (the song "Addiction"), kind of annoying ("See Through Me"), or too boring ("Rocket Ride"). There were several other songs (such as "Drown in It" and "Useless Superstar") that really weren't all that great. But there are still lots of other great songs, too, like "Hollow," "Good as it Gets," "Wounded," "Come Back Down," and, one of my favorite songs on the disc, "Everything." And the guitars sound really crisp, that also sometimes sound slightly acoustic, but then blast out into full electric guitar. And as I mentioned before, the vocals are pretty good, too. But overall, there's just such a mixture of fantastic songs that just stick in your head all day, and ones that you never want to hear again, that a clear liking or disliking of this CD doesn't occur. I'm just pretty much in the middle, and "4 3 2 1" is nothing to go wild over. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
So I hear you guys don't like the Lefty album much. I've gotta tell you, seeing them perform live and listening to a CD must be a VERY different thing, cause I saw Lefty last night opening for Good Charlotte (that might explain things, but still) and I thought they were awesome! Much better than Mest, who also performed. Mest really sucked. So they're not actual hardcore punk, but for their genre they really kick ass. Oh goody, goody! more poppy "my girlfriend left me" rock yee haw Im so happy (insert sarcasm here) I agree with the "Worst Band Ever" comment. I've had the misfortune of going to two shows where these guys opened. They were awful. I was actually embarrassed to watch and/or listen. I'm impressed this CD actually made it to this site for review, as they're not at all a punk rock band. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some prick that sets the rules for what is or what is not punk. But certainly this highly untalented band, probably on the same level as the God-awful Good Charlotte, should not be in the same ballpark as punk rock. They (Lefty and Good Charlotte) are bands that seem to have about zero passion about music. They see what's popular at the time and make third-rate, unoriginal songs that fit the sub-genre and hope to get famous. They're just out to make money. I think that's a bullshit reason to put out records. I bought both thier cds for like $15, they are ok. I agree, they run up the middle half good half bad. But one question, how can every band be the worst band ever? I saw them live and thought they were pretty good, but I dled a couple songs and they're really not. They were selling their cd for 20 bux so I didn't buy it 'cause 20 bux for a cd at a show is way too much, it was a good decision on my part not to buy it Hey, Jefferson-- I don't really know anything abot Lefty, but buying a CD based solely on one song has ALWAYS backfired on me. And the song in question was almost ALWAYS a radio song. My advice is that if you like one song, buy the single. then listen to the B-sides... if the B-sides/live tracks are decent, then go buy the full-length. Follow my advice, it might just save you $10 next time. i'll buy it for 5 dollars, e mail me at selloutpunk@earthlink.net, or im me at vbdsucks there are no two ways about it. Lefty is a pile of shit. Worst band ever. if anyone wants to buy an autographed copy of this cd for $5 get a hold of me |
