Bad Religion - New Maps of Hell (Deluxe)

Maybe I don’t get it -- but I prefer to think that I’m validated in not liking the new Human Abstract album, Nocturne.

If this, the band’s first album, had decided to stick to a more straight-up or at least more convincing metal line, then they could have succeeded, but instead the band seems to be grabbing a little bit of “this” and “that” from far too many places to come off with anything convincingly authentic or enjoyable. The band’s mixture of old-school metal, hardcore, and tech-metal come together in a way that doesn’t seem forced, but rather careless.

That’s not to say that there aren’t perfectly enjoyable moments on Nocturne. In fact, the album's more technical guitar parts are amazing, but they’re often forgotten as soon as they get muddled out by another sound that seemed to have come from nowhere and with no reason.

To its credit, the band has produced a well-produced and crafty album, but there’s simply too much going on from too many different places to make me want to pop it back in my stereo anytime soon.

Ok, dude im gonna kill your babies. Hence the name The Human ABSTRACT. The music is of abstract songs so the instrumental work will be of the abstract theme. Best band ever... i miss aj...

    My Score:

i just recently drove to minneapolis to see them at station 4, and im not going to lie they can pretty much nail their sound and then some. coming from a critical guitarist and aspiring musician i must say i dont say this very often. the album may sound like its coming from every direction but dont be fooled they know exactly what they are doing and thats no joke. so before reveiwing an album you self admittedly claim not listening to very much i suggest you take a more in depth listen and maybe things will pan out for your ignorance...

The person who reviewed this album obviously isnt a musician. I dont think anyone in The Human Abstract is even legal age to drink and yet they can put out such an amazing album.

Millencolin's first albums are okay. The only one worthy of eight to ten stars though is pennybridge.

Wilhelm is good too. I don't know if they're ten stars, but up there.

The other bands are pretty crappy considering the equipment they have. They could be a lot better. And Much The Same is a joke. Altogether that genre sounds regurgitated.

The majority of your reviews are Victory releases, that relatively sound the same. When I was younger, I was a big fan of Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses, so I still have a soft spot for that CD, even though it's bad. That's about as far as I go though. The rest of it is manufactured shit.

crazytoledo has this opposite rating scale going on that's quite effective. it almost works better than the reviews themselves. from now on, reviewers should post blank pages, and let toledo comment on them. whatever he rates the CD, have the reviewer rate the exact opposite.

    e.g: 5 stars = half a star
    4 1/2 starts = 1 star

    and so on

Which would cause massive problems because I'd give out 8-10s to albums by bands like Millencolin, Much the Same, No Trigger, A Wilhelm Scream, With Honor, Crime In Stereo, Pennywise, Comeback Kid, etc.

    My Score:

they are very talented but the whole cd seemed like they had trouble trying to piece each song together

    My Score:

This is one of the best albums of the year in my opinion.

Part Between the Buried and Me. Part Candiria, and it works extremly well.

That song Crossing The Rubicon is really fucking good. I think the rest of the album is kinda bland, but that song smokes

not a terrible band by any means
