When NOFX announced their “7 Inch of the Month” club I was thrilled regarding the special offer. However, I never signed up and now I am paying dearly for it. Sure, I could download the MP3s and hear the songs (since they’ll never be available ANYWHERE else ::rolls eyes::), but doesn’t that defeat the point of collectors items? Luckily I have been able to track a few of these records down (without breaking my piggy bank too much) and I hope to bring closure to the entire series in the Org’s review database.

The third 7-inch appearing during the month of April delivers fans two and a half new songs. The first, “No Fun in Fundamentalism” is a typical modern NOFX song and would have easily fit on either of their last two albums. Fat Mike has always been an adamant fan of playing with words and the tune’s title and lyrics stress this aptitude. The chorus, albeit straightforward, is exuberantly catchy and most fans will be singing and clapping along by the second time they reset the needle.

Side B squeezes two songs in just over a minute: “Fungus” and “I’m a Huge Fan of Bad Religion.” The former is over before it begins while the latter is the climax of the 7-inch. The subject matter is just as the title states -- Fat Mike spilling his admiration and thoughts on the legendary Bad Religion. He claims the old men still know how to have fun and testifies that their signing to a major label was a blunder. Musically the song borrows from the BR catalog as Mike fills the outro with vocal “aaah"s straight from Graffin’s voice box and the guitars even have that Bad Religion tingle to them.

If you are like me and imprudently did not subscribe to this seven-inch club, but have the ability to obtain this volume in the series then I firmly recommend you snag it. It might seem peculiar to own only a fraction of the series, but these three songs are certainly prominent ones amongst the rare anthology.

I was unimpressed with the whole offering of 7" of the month club records. I'm generally unimpressed with NOFX nowadays as it is. Maybe part of it stems from the fact that I never bothered signing up for the club and I don't own any of them. I used Soulseek and got my fix, and I overdosed. They are all awful, and not in a good pre-'92 NOFX way. They are not worth the inflated prices they will soon see on Ebay in a few months.

Where are the MP3's? and not the shitty incorrect bpm versions released months ago. I'm trying to compile a post 45 or 45 songs... b-sides/7" compilation/rarities CD. Need these mp3s.

This is one of the best 7"'s ever.
Fundamentalism should have been on Wolves and they should have fucked off Benny got blowed up. It sounds like it would fit nicely in a section of the Decline.
I've downloaded all of the 7inchofthemonths and I have to say that I would have swapped a lot of the songs that made it onto wiwc with songs from this series.
That BR song is just awesome hero worship. I just wonder how good a cd of NOFX covering BR would sound or even better a cd worth of NOFX imitating BR with original material.

I love Jamaica's Alright, boring song, but alot of fun. I also like that song with the jokes... "My dad died in a concentration camp... yeah, he fell off a guard tower".

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND A GOOD QUALITY CORRECT BPM VERSION OF ALL THE 7 INCHES DOWNLOADABLE?

This 7" of the month club started off pretty well but from what I've read from a review of every single one of these is that they really started to suck near the end.

Plus all the best songs were eventually put on Wolves In Wolves Clothing or the Hippie EP.

Every time NOFX says "this will only ever be on record" they release it in a collection. Give em 2 years and all these 7 Inches will be on cd.

I love everything about this release. "Fundamentalism" was THE song of last summer for me and my friends. Brings back a lot of good memories now.

The Bad Religion song really reminds me of 21st Century Digital Boy. The guitars and the drum fills are VERY similar. This was one of my favorite volumes. -TahoeJeff
