Are they back? They didn't do a remake of their last disaster did they?

Well, The Suicide Machines were never gone. To undertand The Suicide Machines, one can't possibly base their entire sound on one record. Pretty much everyone own's their debut ska/punk treasure "Destruction by Defintion." Then comes the mediocre brutally hardcore "Battle Hymns." Follwing this, the critically labeled flop "s/t." Well, I just have to say this right now before I go on, you know those critics that try to sound all hard and purely punk went home every day after that record came out and played the hell out of that record. It was faster Weezer; that is ALL and it was GREAT for what it was- an experimental pop record.

Now here it comes, "Steal This Record." Perhaps just glancing at the ironic cover may foreshadow what this album sounds like comparing their last two efforts. We have the happy, colorful, gleeful rabbits in a blissful scene ("s/t"), the devilish, horned rabbits in a hellish background ("Battly Hymns"), and then...the girl standing directly in the middle sepprating the two genres while hiding what may become a punk rock gem.

Going over through every song would be useless. If you bought any of their prior records, songs like it and better are on here. Ensembles ranging from pop numbers, to devouring hardcore, to dazzling ska, to pure punk rock prove The Machines just wanted to go with whatever came out this time. And it works. Oh does it work.

Pefect vocals, ornate harmonies, addicting guitar and choruses enlighten the listener. Not to mention, there's a cover of It's the End of the World As We Know it by REM and some extra CD ROM stuff. So there ya go. No doubt a geat record; one of the best of the year.

Is it better than Destruction by Definition... it might damn well be.

Probably their 3rd best album imo. Steal This Record, Scars, All My People and Unbreakable all rock my socks.

A Match and Some Gasoline is AMAZING. It most resembles Battle Hymns. Everyone pick it up when it comes out.

This is one of the only albums i will EVER give a full ten! This is the second best album ever released... and yes... it's better than "DBD". This album just fuckin' rocks!!! Can't wait for "A Match and Some Gasoline"
    Best Tracks:
    Honor Among Thieves
    Bleeding Heart
    The Air We Breathe

I think this cd is a little worse than DBD because there are some bad songs on this. None on DBD. Battle Hymns is def. Suicide Machines best. Hardcore ska= a sound like no other band has (or at least the sound on battle hymns is like no other band)

If you like listening to a whole albulm and not having to skip around then try this out.

And one more thing: I've noticed a trend with them, how the recent cd's have covered their poppy side and now their punk/hardcore side with this cd(and don't say Battle Hymns, it's full of ska, this cd isn't)....So maybe I'm thinking their next cd will be full of ska.....just a thought though, think about it.

Ohhhhhhh man this album is great, I just bought it 5 hours ago. Holy crap, I love it. I LOVE Destrucion By Definition, I LOVE Battle Hymns, I LOVE THE SELF TITLED (its good pop) and I LOVE Steal This Record. I LOVE THE SUICIDE MACHINES. They can't write a bad song (except I Hate Everything, even though it was a joke.) Buy this cd, biotch.

This album is a step in the right direction. I definately wouldn't say it's their best work. As for the last album, I slammed the shit out of it, but I definately wan't going home every night and listening to it. I was getting 5 bucks for it at the local pawn shop. Anyways, This one is okay. Dewfinately not shitty, but still not my favorite album of the year.

yeah dude what the fuck were you smoking when you said it could be better than Destruction by Defintion, granted this cd is good but come on

    wyzo (October 1, 2001)

I think its the best one theyve put out, the best combination of their various faces.

Good album.... better than DBD ummm i think not. No suicide machines album nor many punk/ska albums since that have matched it

this album sucks, their are a couple decent songs on it, but none that stand out. at least s/t had i hate everything. this isnt as bad as s/t but it fails to even come near dest. by def. or battle hymns

    sickboi (October 1, 2001)

I must say that I was pleasantly suprised with this record. But come on, "better than 'Destruction by Definition'"? Quit sniffing glue, kid.
