My Fest beer coozie reads “420 + 69 = The Fest V” -- however, No Idea seems to have the wrong equation. My mathematical analysis to the incredible weekend of October 27th-29th works out a bit differently…
Other bands I saw: Smoke or Fire, Savage Brewtality, North Lincoln, You Me & the Atom Bomb, New Bruises, the Arrivals, the Bomb, Radon, Armalite, Pink Razors (A.K.A. “The Tuning Band”), Hot Cross, Haram, Coliseum, Against All Authority, the Revenge, No Trigger, No More, Ghost Mice (twice), Static Radio, Affirmative Action Jackson, and Cloak/Dagger. Dan Yemin Facts from The Fest V:
Biggest Surprises at The Fest V:
Drunkest Band at The Fest V: The Fleshies: Wow, Johnny No Moniker (A.K.A. Emilio Estevez) was completely trashed when they opened up Abbey Road on Saturday night. He definitely spent more time on the ground than on the stage. I’m a little disappointed that I did not get to see all the bands that I wanted to ([Defiance, Ohio], Planes Mistaken for Stars, Drag the River, the Velvet Teen, VCR, Minus the Bear, Blood Bath & Beyond, and New Mexican Disaster Squad), but The Fest works and it works well! If you ever need proof that punk rock succeeds, then all you need is one look at The Fest. Despite there being a plethora of drunks roaming Gainesville no one was ever drastically out of control, and there was no security (sans a few volunteers) at the shows; this worked well, as everyone in attendance took care of each other. The Fest is an exhausting weekend, but a truly remarkable one at that. This was my first one and based on my experience this year I will be in attendance at the annual event from here on out. Thank you No Idea, the bands, the volunteers, Tony, and of course all the people in attendance who made this the most amazing music festival I have ever been to.

Yeah sure, it was booze that brendan lawrence arms was fucked up on... Nigga please!! sounds like someone has a man crush, creep. bet ur a light weight too. remember when brendan told the punknews yutes to fuck off for spreading ridiculous rumours about him? that was awesome. and for the record, he wasn't that drunk, he stayed with us that night. so quit writing about how he drank all the beer in the club that night in every fucking review you write about that band. the lawrence arms are not the brendan kelly show. Paul Baribeau got added to the Latterman show tonight last-minute and I got there late and missed him! Sooooooo fucking pissed about that. Dude still rules, though. paul baribeau reminds of a slightly more sane daniel johnston. slightly. and i mean that in a good way. Paul Baribeau was fantastic. He's my new favorite singer-songwriter. Can't stop listening to the CD of his I bought, either. someone needs to give reviews of the Drag The River, Minus The Bear, and Paul Baribeau sets. remember when brendan told the punknews yutes to fuck off for spreading ridiculous rumours about him? that was awesome. and for the record, he wasn't that drunk, he stayed with us that night. so quit writing about how he drank all the beer in the club that night in every fucking review you write about that band. the lawrence arms are not the brendan kelly show. fest was so good, got drunk and blacked out twice on saturday alone. thunderlip was rad. hopefully next year there will be hotter girls and better coke! civilwar? reading about the fest is like when a friend tells you how was fucking with the girl you have a crush on. "I'm pretty convinced that this site gets paid from Jade Tree to hype Dan Yemin." Orgcore mania, eh? i saw the singer of capsule fighting some guy on a street corner but was in a cab so i couldnt break it up...anyone know what happened *sigh* next year... speaking from experience...(I'm usually the Bomb's roadie) Jeff from the Bomb ALWAYS seems like he's moving in slow motion. That's just how he is...except when he's driving 125 mph down Ashland avenue. The Bomb was very good. The music and vocals are awesome. Just one thing, though: I saw the end of New Bruises' set on Friday; wasn't bad at all. Anyone see New Bruises? How does one forget seeing 9 Shocks Terror? For shame. Anyone that missed Religious As Fuck, Blacktusk, and Kylesa missed out on an awesome little line-up. I'm pissed I missed No Trigger and Coliseum. I got to No Trigger late and was so drunk that during Coliseum I watched the skate videos on the side and I didn't even realized they had played. if the story about BloodbathandBeyond goes like this colin from nmb is awesome.... theotherstevejones - care to paste an AIM, Soulseek, or other name for the purpose of spreading those videos? The Bomb and Radon were both awesome. KIRBY, how did you like the rest of that show in Pittsburgh? I'm curious to your reaction of the other bands that played.... I'm wearing my Punknews shirt next year so that more people say hello. I met a few people, but not enough. Damn, I didnt know that was you at the time. Theres always next year. I know Im looking forward to it already. Whenever I get those videos uploaded, Ill post a link. They arent great quality. Im no sickboi. But a naked Paddy wearing the dreadlocks wig from the Radon set is always entertaining. Haha, I was showing them to KirbyPuckett! Dude, you shoulda said hi. The Fest is all about broing down! I was standing right next to you at the NMB show. You were showing some guy pictures on your camera and I was trying to sneak a peak. You were sitting, like, three people over from me, then. Small world. I was the dude in the black/red Hot Water Music shirt. Yeah I was sitting right in front of him, so it was much more irritating. Pat The Bunny/Johnny Hobo played at that acoustic show on the college campus during the day on Sunday. He was pretty good, although the kid that kept on yelling shit at him was annoying as hell. Lemuria!! I have some video from both Ghost Mice(the first show) and D4. Score is for Johnny Hobo. I asked a question, Kirby! That PIB show had some of the best HC punk bands in existance today and you didn't answer! Tell me now! "Anybody catch the show that had Assholeparade, The Holy Mountain, Government Warning, Paint It Black, Cloak/Dagger and a couple other bands? The whole fest looked like it would be awesome but the lineup for that show was especially great." d4 =( *Josh plays guitar in AAJ, not bass (that's Andy). I don't know if you can really comment on the drunkest band at the fest unless you saw Billy Reese Peters play You suck for missing Dinner Break (Not a Band)'s set. It was seriously the highlight of the Fest. christ almighty I feel bad for anybody that saw None More Black over Defiance, Ohio, because they missed the best set of the weekend. "We're a lot funnier than you, because you can't take a simple joke." O Pioneers/Saw Wheel house show on Saturday night was the best part of the fest. It's weird that so many people are saying they were there, it didn't seem like there was hardly anyone there. Um, where's D4's Civil War review? I thought this was halloween and punknews.org? Ugh, I hate the split links My friend Sarah took some pics of D4, but she was in the crowd and drunk so they didn't turn out great. Here are a few, you get the point: I knew it wouldn't come out well...My friends and I have this long running joke about Dan Yemin being the Chuck Norris of punk rock. sickboi. send the pic i should be able to get it Sounds awesome. Can your phone get pics? I can send you the pic from Xtabi, I still have your # if its the same one you called from Saturday. If not, just email me where to send. "Did you go to that apartment show to see O Pioneers? I heard they were doing it Sunday, but was too fucking drunk to head down. I got your message Saturday night, you were indeed sloshed. You should still have my cell # so give me a buzz if you're down this way sometime..." For anyone that is giving Kirby shit for his review, these is his feelings on it. He obviously likes Dan Yemin, so fucking what? If you have a different opinion on the Fest, write a review. Highlight the bands you enjoyed. I'm sure Brian would run another one as long as it is a different perspective. Aside from Dillinger 4, way to go see a bunch of bands that already tour regularly at a fest full of bands that reunited specially for the occasion or rarely tour. a week ago i was like "naw i don't have the money to go and i really should spend more time on school" Yes i was, and i have managed to only mention Dan Yemin like twice since the fest. Davey Quinn and Paddy Costello both also played in three bands apiece. What makes Yemin so special? He was playing in three bands at this thing, all of whom were great, man with no sense of humor. So the reviewer was a little excited. Lighten up, you weren't there. dan yemin says....dan yemin says....dan yemin says....dan yemin says.... what the fuck???? oh, and on the Paddy/Bloodbath situation, my friends who were at 1982 saw Paddy in a restaraunt while he was supposed to be at the Bloodbath show. Hey gave them hugs and enthusiastically asked them "hey, you guys ever try a cheeseburger?" after that, most of the conversation was singing the praises of cheeseburgers. i was at the O! Pioneers apartment show on Saturday night after Dillinger Four. Did you go to that apartment show to see O Pioneers? I heard they were doing it Sunday, but was too fucking drunk to head down. I got your message Saturday night, you were indeed sloshed. You should still have my cell # so give me a buzz if you're down this way sometime... Top 5 performances I saw: Paddy didn't end up playing with Bloodbath; instead they brought Floyd up onstage to mime with a bass (probably because he was the other fattest guy there). Supposedly Paddy passed out drunk and coked up in a parking lot while people took pictures with their dicks in his mouth, then disappeared for the rest of the night. Good times. Paint It Black was fucking great. People were tossing confetti and silly string around; a guy dressed as Borat in spandex was stage-diving; the contents of a large trash can were spilled into the pit and kids were riding around in the empty can like some sort of carnival attraction. Fun. Not the best show at Fest, but I figured that it deserved a better description. oh and if anyone knows of any pictures from the D4 performance online could you please link those up.. no, I DRANK THE BEER AND THE WING, man was that tasty!!! other excellent performances not noted: of course it got five stars. way to be subjective guys. I'm pretty convinced that this site gets paid from Jade Tree to hype Dan Yemin. Talk about idol worship, huh? Like previously stated, you missed some of the best bands. Government Warning, Direct Control, etc. waffles- I'm pretty convinced that this site gets paid from Jade Tree to hype Dan Yemin. Talk about idol worship, huh? Like previously stated, you missed some of the best bands. Government Warning, Direct Control, etc. review sums it up pretty well 1: defiance, ohio Top 5 best performances I saw were Dillinger 4, Grabass Charlestons, the Ergs, Dead To Me and Scouts Honor (who only played to like 15 people) nice meetin chris and company and having a blast at XTABI! This review seemed rather pointless. My second Fest, and hopefully not my last. Definately the best music festival ever. "Fuck every single person that went to this." Anybody catch the show that had Assholeparade, The Holy Mountain, Government Warning, Paint It Black, Cloak/Dagger and a couple other bands? The whole fest looked like it would be awesome but the lineup for that show was especially great. Later this month the Lawrence Arms and Chuck Ragan will be stopping by Pittsburgh, however I have a mandatory work dinner to attend that evening. VALIENT THORR WAS THE BEST!!!! HANDS DOWN. THEN comes Dillenger. Good times. I drank more PBR and Miller High Life this weekend than I ever will again. Well, until next year anyway. Ghost Mice twice? Nice. damn you all to hell new d4? believe it when i see it why did you thank Tony (victory)? weird Reading this review puts the biggest smile on my face. If the line up is half as good as it was this year im going to make it to Florida one way or another. Score is for everything related to The Fest. hot damn, that looks like a hell of a weekend. Yeah, I wish people had gone nuts at the roboto show too. Dan Yemin Facts from The Fest V: I wish I had the money, time, and transportation to go to Gainesville for this. did anybody see the O Pioneers? How were they? Damn sounded like a good f'n festival. It's impossible to imagine Brendan that wasted. The world would implode I think if it imagined Bren inebriated as fuck. my god this sounds great. Mind you I did attend one of my best shows this year this weekend. But I only got to go to one of the shows of Fucked Up Fest due to school so it doesn't really make up for this. of course i told you to go to hell. i'm so pissed i missed this. sounds like a great time. I heard a little story about the Bloodbath and Beyond set, and if someone confirms it, I will laugh my fucking ass off... I support this call and I have a drunken phone call from Chris to support it as well. Score is for Highlife tall-boys with Mitch Clem during the Riverboat Gamblers... List is wrong. Armalite stole the Fest. FACT. Fuck every single person that went to this. You didn't see Defect Defect, dang. |
