The last time I saw Alkaline Trio was earlier this year on the Cleveland stop of The Occult Roots of Alkaline Trio: Early Songs for Eerie People Tour. The show was in the Agora Theatre and was packed with hundreds of kids. The concert was a special one as the band performed their first album, Godamnit, in its entirety as well as a few other choice cuts from their extensive discography. I remember sitting high up in the nosebleed section sipping on a PBR tallboy with a colossal grin on my face grasping onto every word that Matt and Dan spilled. I recall glancing over the railing and viewing the eccentric crowd frantically pouring their hearts into these gentlemen’s songs -- my stomach became queasy as I thought of how significant the band as become. It could have been my fear of heights that struck the unease, but I have a feeling it was my selfish attitude that pondered how I would never get to see this band in a minute and intimate setting ever again. My pessimistic opinion was hastily forgotten as the band put on the type of paramount performance I have witnessed from them in doses over the near decade I have been an adamant fan. However, deep inside my urge to see them in front of a hundred fans instead of a thousand still existed.

i was at this show, dan was amazing, i thought it was a very good show. Points for him playing Emma. i always thpught he was a bigger guy. he looks pretty slim in thse pictures Score is for saying Caucasian Bullets & Octane made kirby look like a douche... haha he looks so young in these pictures. he always looks old in alk3 Chicago show was great, one of the best shows I've been to this year. I thought that was you, I met you at Lifetime actually. I was the guy in the hat & beard...strangly close to the attire Dan was wearing. "I was at the Cleveland show and it was pretty good. I kept yelling for "Let the Stars" play and I think Scott was next to me and joined in, sadly it was not played." which song is the billy bragg cover? The funniest thing about these mp3's is the people trying to sing along. Wow. I bet the Chicago show was good? I would guess a lot of people showed up for being that the ae a chicago band. How was it? saw him in Chicago, it was the shit. I was at the Cleveland show and it was pretty good. I kept yelling for "Let the Stars" play and I think Scott was next to me and joined in, sadly it was not played. I thought the crowd was pretty lame at the detroit show (kids yelling about matt). Also the sound wasn't too good and with dan complaining about it and the broken guitar string I hope we didn't get a shorter set. All things aside, it was a great time and dan play a great set. I just fixed the links. I heard rumors you were at the Larry Arms show the next night. True? there was only like 30-40 people philly. best alk3 show ive ever been to I just fixed the links. the Detroit show was great too, only like 75 people but it was an incredible show. Kind of sad though that more people didn't come out considering that Heavens will be sold out this Thursday in the same venue. I have been a big trio fan since about 01 and this was something i had been wanting to see for some time...either matt or dan acoustic. I had always heard those random bootlegs of both of them from the internet. I was lucky enough to see Dan at the cleveland show at the grog shop which i live walking distance to. The grog was a great venue for this type of performance. The sound was very good and and Dan played a nice long set list with considerable variety. I guess most people probably prefer skiba to dan but seeing dan perform live made me realize he is definatly the better singer of the two as his voice was melodic, strong, and in tune the entire time. Seeing him outside of the trio one gets the feeling thatt the whole "dark" aspect of the trio is much more Matt and Derick as Dan seems more like the thoughful emotive singer/songwriter type. I had met Dan a couple of time over the last few years and spoke to him breifly at this show...nice guy! Anyway...it was a great show...probably only 100 people at the most. After seeing that Cleveland setlist, I now have "Rocky Raccoon" stuck in my head. Thanks, Scott. I should have seen him when he came to Philadelphia. Bummer. Cleveland setlist: No "Standard Break From Life?" This is a show I would have loved to see. Great review. Uh oh... I've seen The Alkaline Trio four times and each time I was hoping they'd play "She Took Him To The Lake." Now, when I'm living half-way around the world, Dan plays the aforementioned song at his acoustic show in Cleveland. Whatta jerk. He didn't happen to play it in Pittsburgh, did he? If he did, you didn't happen to record it, did you? Sucks I couldn't go to this. yeah, the links to media aren't working right now He does kinda look like a white Common. no "my mess"? that sucks good review. i dont believe the video links are working. or perhaps i am just retarded. but i'm pretty sure they aint workin. |
