The Living End delivered a mild disappointment with their middling new album, State of Emergency, but still, it was hard to deter me from going to see a band I once considered (and still do to an extent) an all-time favorite in such a mind-bogglingly intimate state. The last time I'd seen the Australian trio it was May 2001 opening for Green Day at one of New York City's biggest indoor concert venues with a standing room floor (Hammerstein Ballroom). Here at Club Ritual in Levittown, NY, they played a stage that was no more than two feet high and 20 feet wide, under a ceiling that couldn't have been higher than eight to 10 feet -- along with a crowd that couldn't have been much higher than 60 at its peak. For this type of setting it was rather surreal to watch a band I'd been a fan of for so long that's essentially the Green Day of their home country.

2 comments about it, you're rather upset about an incorrect name. Ummm drummer of Anterrabae? Anterrabae has never had a drummer named John and further more, this mystery drummer named "John" was never in Anterrabae. first off john from anterrabae is not the drummer you moron Score is for this band. this sounds exactly like they show they had in nyc in the summer. not thatsa bad thing...one of my favorite shows ahhhh, living end in a tiny club with only 60 people. last time i saw these guys they were in an 80,000 stadium supporting the rolling stones (which they did a pretty damn good job of, with many in the crowd who didn't know them getting into the instrumental e-boogie). i've seen them many times, and i don't think ever at a venue with less than a thousand people there. that said, they always consistently put on the best shows. score for living end. I can not believe that a band this great draws so few people...There is something seriously wrong with that Fucking good review. Fucking great band. I had never even heard of this band. But I was on my way to antartica (long story) and so i was in new zealand and i saw a poster for this band. So i went to the concert with this other band called goodnight nurse. its was probally one of the best concerts i've ever been to. I'm definetly buying some of their cds when i get back in the states. Also, when I saw them in KY, they played at least one song from every album/EP (including Hellbound and It's For Your Own Good). More bands should do that with their respective catalogs. I saw the Living End in a similar situation in Louisville, KY in 2004. Small club (attached to a restaurant), small small stage, and a crowd of less than a hundred. BUT so much energy. They were really nice guys and actually invited my friends and I backstage after the show for a short bit and we talked about favorite albums, etc. Great times. Score is for The Living End's last album. Going to see them tonight at the Black Cat and i am beyond excited. It's also been five years since I've seen these guys and they're coming to Chicago a week from Wednesday. I can't fucking wait. |
