With a thunderous crash and indecipherable ramblings, Lee “Scratch” Perry, the mad scientist, returns. The iconic producer, who was responsible for many of reggae’s most important releases, as well as a few Clash cuts, releases Alive, More Than Ever, the live companion to his 2005 album, Panic in Babylon. As Perry traverses and mutates through the hour-long set, he melds the old and the new, re-writes history, and proclaims statements that are either profound, unfounded, or both.

If anyone here is into the Slackers I highly suggest you look for an album featuring original members of The Slackers such as Vic Ruggierio, called "The Nods: Before there was the Slackers there was the Nods". Fucking amazing, REAL ska-by the fucking book, it's from 1993 and was recorded before The Slackers were a band. I've only listened once but it was so good I want to write a review, which is very seldom for me... One of the best producers of all time, in any genre, and a damned fine musician too. I'll second the Super Ape recommendation. isn't one of his songs played on the ghettoblaster before the start of Rancid's Ruby Soho music video??? Great stuff, I love Lee Perry. Lee Perry is awesome. So are Scientist and King Tubby. Dub rules. my favorite artist of all time. haven't heard this yet but i'm sure i will soon. a big KUDOS for reviewing this on this site.Scratch is 100% better than any band that has ever been mentioned here. halfway decent taste in music>danperone perry ellis > lee scratch perry I'd say that if you want more Perry, check out SUPER APE. jeez, the man must have been busy last year. i got his Panic in Babylon disc too, that came out in 06. |
