I really just wanted to do a clever photoshop for We Are the Threat, but realized about five minutes into the process that I’m really not very good at Photoshop. And being that I want to do this review, and band justice, I’m going to leave this tenuous task up to my writing alone.

I will still contest that Cute Is What We Aim For is undoubtedly, unequivocally, absolutely the single worst band I have ever heard in my life, but I’ll tell you what: xDeathstarx are trying really, really hard to take that distinction for themselves.

And they do succeed on numerous (read: all) fronts:

  1. More vocalists than necessary. Four, count ‘em four singers. There’s eight people in this band. Eight! Four of which sing, indiscriminately at that. I can’t tell a single one of them apart from the others. Maybe that’s to their benefit, considering I can’t single anyone out as being any worse than the others. Truth be told, they have decent voices for fronting a hardcore band; my issue lies in the complete and total uniformity with which they perform. Every song is the same pace, same inflection, etc.
  2. Siqqqqqqqqqq breakdowns. I think this one speaks for itself.
  3. As I briefly touched on earlier, every song is exactly the same. The length of these tracks is a moot point, because be it two minutes or twenty, the breakdown-to-actual-music ratio is proportional. And by actual music, I mean ‘parts of songs that aren’t breakdowns,’ and trust me when I say that description is giving these guys the benefit of the doubt..
  4. Lyrics. “For my friends, for my family!” Okay, wrong band, but that’s pretty much the essence of any lyrical content to be found on this album. It even bothers me to use a classy word such as ‘essence’ in conjunction with this spinkick-fest of a record. I won’t indulge too much into the lyrics, but I figured this gem would be worthy of mention: "to rebuild, they must destroy the god of whom we owe are [sic, liner notes] freedom.” Yeah, I think I’m done here.
Where’s Luke Skywalker when you need him?

I agree Anchors, Luke needs to blow up another Death Star.

I really can't name one "bro hardcore" band that i can stand and from what I gathered from your review that's exactly what this band is

    My Score:

He listens to a christian hardcore band and doesnt want to hear positive and simple lyrics or breakdowns. There are only breakdowns about 15%-20% of the time. I can understand not liking somthing you review, but dont review something when it looks like you hate the entire genre is based upon, why waste your time?

Nah, this album is by the numbers. It sounds like their last album, just worse. They are bad. The end.

    My Score:

    1) the photoshop artwork was done by Dave Quiggle. It states that in the liner notes. Dave Quiggle has done artwork for sick of it all, war of ages, jesus wept, bury your dead, NIV, and a ton of other bands. He IS a good artist.

    2) Your focus on the break downs but dont mention the power metal riffs, harmonic vocals and amazing drum work on this album. Those things alone set this album apart from a majority of other hardcore or metal core bands.

    3) I dont how you can see every song as sounding the same. a few songs focus on harmonic vocals, some have a thrash metal feel to them, others have a power metal feel to them. I think this album is very diverse in the musical styles that is pulls from

    4) I understand that the lyrics of xDEATHSTARx are not the usual lyrics that you are used to coming up against. The lyrics focus on christianity and the downfall of men. There is only one straight edge anthem song on this album. I think the lyrics are fairly straight forward. Example: "so lay your head on the block for your truth, for your God. What are they afraid of? our conviction? their conviction? I know what and why I believe." In other words they are putting their music and lyrics out there despite people like this reviewer.

I understand that people wont like or agree with this album, or even like the vocals or lyrics, but this review should have been higher based on the drum and guitar work.

Readers, I suggest you actually listen to the album or some mp3's before you make a final judgment. The reviewer has a clear bias against hardcore bands with a message.

P.S. worst band I have heard lately = Beneath the Sky

yeah breakdowns, hardcore dancers, and lyrics about blood and family are definitely one of the many downfalls to hardcore music these days

why is it cool to make fun of breakdowns all of a sudden? reviewer, you're probably the kid with the faggot hair who used to mosh to norma jean 3 years ago. this band sucks, but the reviewer is twice as lame.

A review isn't even necesary for a band with Xs around it's name. You should automatically know the band is completely fucking worthless.

This band is also christian and were on American Chopper to help the one guy "get his anger out" what the fuck. Worst band ever. The only way they would be good is if the four singers sang as a barber shop quartet.
