With the consistent touring that Whole Wheat Bread does, it's hard to believe they had time to make this EP. This is the followup to their debut album, Minority Rules, and isn't what one expects.

The EP starts out with probably its best song, "206." The song has a blazing guitar provided by Aaron Abraham, and a video is planned for it soon. Up next is another great song, "Grass." Sure, it's just about smoking weed, but then again, the man who sings it, Nick Largen, AKA DJ Dirty $keet, is now in jail. It's catchy, but not as catchy as "206."

Now here's where things go downhill. "Symbol of Hope" is a good song, but it says the same thing that a lot of Whole Wheat Bread's other songs say: We're black. It's okay to hear it every once in a while, but hearing it one too many times is annoying. "No Problem" is what you'll also hear at a Whole Wheat Bread concert: There will be chants of the band saying "WHOLE WHEAT--!" and the crowd shouting "--BREAD!." And then we finally get to "I Don't Give a Fuck"; the song is just them talking about how they're tough, and again, they mention their skin color.

Luckily, the EP ends with "Never Scared." This is a Bonecrusher cover and sounds great. Its lyrics are ones that you'll be singing for days, and they play it great live.

Overall, I would've waited for a brand new full-length over this. The production on it is great, but the three songs I mentioned above just don't get things going. Being that they have a new bass player in CJ, I hope that he can get things back together for a new album. Am I saying that the EP is terrible? No. All I'm saying is that when you go back and listen to a song like "Old Man Samson" off the debut album, you can't help but think "What happened?"

    My Score:

'206' is a badass song. The grass song is good too.

I hate this band, and I don't like Lil' Jon, but his primary musical influence is oldschool skate-punk and hardcore so the connection is definitely there.

Regardless, fuck em all! Why am I refuting this!

WTF was I thinking ... scratch Punk Life from the below comment and replace with Minority Rules. thanks.

    Good band, terrible review.

Just saw WWB in Ft. Lauderdale last weekend, and they always put on a fun live show. All the bands from the tour (members of AAA, Summer Obsession, and Rory) were at the side of the stage singing along, and Mr. Whitefolks relinquished the drum stool to the drummer from the Summer Obsession for a version of RATM's "Bulls On Parade."

Not as a big a fan of this album as of Punk Life, but am anxious to hear the new record later this year ..

Fuck gimmicks and fuck these Uncle Toms. The Bad Brains didn't have to bludgeon people with the novelty of being an all-black hardcore band because they fucking RULED and were brilliant. Their music stood for itself without the help of patronizing audience exploitation. If a bunch of fat white dudes were releasing garbage like this it wouldn't sell five copies.

    Agreed 100%

    this band really sucks.

as for the race issue... black, white, or purple, the slogan "Punk Life" is terribly cliché and needs to go, as with this bands pension for objectifying women.

and a band so concerned about "punk life" doing songs with Lil' Jon is just as bad, if not worse, than Fall Out Boy collaborating with hova.

    Suprised this review got published.

    My Score:

i gotta say that 206 is as catchy a pop-punk song i've heard in a while. its also the only pop-punkn song i've heard in a while, but still. Gimmie this over all the shit on mtv right now anyday.

Are those supposed to be tits?

The descriptions of the additional art for this album really make me want to find a copy. It sounds hilarious.

    My Score:

Mr. Issa in Good Clean Fun can better pull off the "black and punk rock" image than this, at least those songs are somewhat more nominally musically crafted--if not more tongue in cheek humor than just brazen and stale.

    And that is saying much...

I absolutely loved Minority Rules. I'm hesitant to pick this up, because I'm pretty sure I'll hate it. Maybe their next full-length will be good....

oh and what is wrong with weed?

it lures white women to sleep with the negroes, obviously!

The rap songs are covers. If you don't even know the source material for half the release you're reviewing, please leave it to someone who does.

    My Score:

Minority Rules was so much fun

this is a step back, these songs just aren't very good

however, the band sounds great live with the new bassist and i'm holding out hope for a better next release..

they really just need to stick to the pop punk though

    My Score:

yeah...the girl on the cover is retarded...but the inside art is even worse. basically it is the same, except she has nipples poking through the shirt and (i think more tattoos) , then their is a pig-cop, a topless girl with tan lines, and a black kid skateboarding. it looks like art for a really bad early 90's pop-rapper

a black band having a white girl on the cover? LOLz

this shit is really bad. i picked this up when i saw WWB open for the Bouncing Souls. it was awful.

and the artwork for this has to be one of the worst designs i have seen in a while

"Symbol Of Hope" is about being lower class, not being black.
