Dynamite Boy, another pop-punk act to surface in the late 90's. I think its easy to agree that the subject matter of most pop-punk songs is girls and the chords of the songs, simple, but that doesn't make them bad atleast in Dynamite Boy's case. Dynamite Boy does pop-punk well, which sets them apart from the many, many new pop punk acts that are in the scene these days. Their songs are musically well written, their lyrics are provocative, their melodies are catchy and their style is tried and true. As a whole I enjoyed this album very much. My favorite tracks were "Catching on", "No way out", "Little Bobby" and "Lullaby." These three show a good variety of writting styles and even a little comedy. Overall I would say that this being Dynamite Boy's second effort, they have definitly matured as a band from their first release. I encourage any fan of pop-punk to buy this album, for it is well worth your money. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
This cd is better in some parts then their previous effort. The fast songs on this cd are incredible, but they have some really bad ones too, written by the other members of the band instead of the lead singer/songwriter. But overall it's a good album. All Dynamite Boy songs are good but no way out from somewhere in america is best I tell my friends this is "Arena Punk Rock". Its like they found the perfect combination of AC/DC and the Ramones. I left the last comment......Little Bobby is catchier than fucking Anthrax....man that is stick in your head melody. I agree with all who said Catching On is a great tune. I find it just flows along with an entire album of good songs, rather than standing out as the best track. This is one of pop/punks finer moments. I really have to disagree with those of you who say "finders keepers" is better. "Somewhere in America" is better produced, and you can tell how the bands songwriting got better. Their is something about the tracks on Finders Keepers. They sound good and are catchy and all. But the songs on the newer record are just a level up on the old material. dynamite boy? fuck that, i say Kid Dynamite. DB has a new CDEP coming out on OffTime Called "Devoted". Not sure of the release date, but it should be soon. Yes i agree with fathead that is the best song on the album for sure. pretty good overall but finders keepers was a better cd. Just a few corrections. Dynamite Boy has been around since the early to mid nineties. They got started way before this whole poppunk explosion. This is their third album and the first one, Hell is Other People, was out of print for awhile but has now been rereleased on Offtime records. That is a far superior album to Finders Keepers. Having heard most of the songs on that album live a million times it was the production that held it down. Hell is Other People is more raw but just as catchy as Somewhere in America. Check it out. yes i actually agree that Dynamite Boy is an excellent pop-punk band. I really like 'Catching On'.- fathead DB is great..."Finders Keepers" is a bit better though. |
