I saw this one coming from a mile away. NFG decides to abandon their hard rockin' punk sounds for dulled-down power pop love ballads, release it on DriveThru's corporate daddies',MCA, and proceed to try and become the next big thing. The first song, Better Off Dead, is one of NFG's best ever, but after that, the album left me disappointed, if not pissed off. They decided to put Hit or Miss on the CD, after it has been released on their first album and a DriveThru sampler.Not a cool thing to do guys. The rest of the songs are whinny, slower than usually, and mediocre to say the least.Sincerely Me was the only other song I liked, which left me wishing for my money back. I dont know, I guess I'm not a fan of sold out punk rock for the masses, but if you are, this is the album for you. I can see it now; Carson Daly says "that was Blink 182, proceeded by SR-71. Next on our pseudo-punk countdown, a new band called A New Found Glory!"

My favorite NFG album Sucks, and who re-does a song from their last album that still sounds the exact same? nfg was never punk in the first place and they are no way in hell better than bad religion and the dead kennedys. I mean really, bad religion started the whole southern california sound and nfg will never do anything that will bring them close to being on bad religion's level. Also nfg will never be as influential as the dead kennedys, one day soon nfg will be forgotten while the dead kennedys will continue to live on in the music of real punk bands. I got bored with this kind of quickly. Nothing Gold Can Stay is their only album that's really any good. Saying New Found Glory is better than the Dead Kennedys is a sin. I agree that NFG is good but Sticks and Stones is better. hey bigjerk. suck a cock. best album by um. i liked it at 1st, but since then it has bored a hole into my head with it's whiny vocals and lame ass music. - bigjerk Nfg is the shit. End of story. They have never made a bad song. This album has been out for days, and it is still being talked about. The guy that reviewed this album for this site said they dropped their hardcore sound. They didn't change anything. It's the same sound. The s/t, and nothing gold cd's could be one cd. The only difference is the quality of the recording. The sellout issue really pisses me off. Music is entertainment. Some music reaches many people, some doesn't. Should they try and sell less records, or not tour. Maybe they should tell mtv to fuck off if they want to play their videos. Selling records is not selling out. Nfg is the best band out, straight up. This is such as easy perfect. After getting this cd back in January 2001 of last year, its January 2002 and its still in my car playing the entire album through. Anyone who has seen this band live will agree with me that they never dropped their punk roots, and are just as punk as ever. Yes, I am a NFG fan, and i will admit an avid fan. This cd is great, one of the best PUNK cd's that i've heard in a long time. Yes, its even better than most of Dead Kennedys and Bad Religion. And no, I will not take it back. NFG is the new up-coming punk, and they are here to stay. brought this albulm the week it came out so god knows why i'm commenting on it now(bored) anyway agree with most others, way 2 many songs about girls-in fact they all r- hit and miss still rules tho, just a shame they cant sing about summit else. Anyone who read my comments from below, please disregard them: they were done by some clueless asshole who listened to the radio a lot. Since then, I have matured in my musical tastes (in other words, I got into punk) Ok they were shown on MTV like 2 times and people call them sellouts? And who gives a flying fuck if any type of punk bands make it big? Don't 'sell out' the music. If anyone calls Blink or whomever sell outs they are the actual sell outs selling out the genre of music they claim to love. Yeah, I'll say it: I'm a New Found Glory fan. A lot of people whine and bitch about how they've sold out and are just standard pop-punk for the radio/MTV crowd. I can't say those people are completely off base, maybe just a little harsh. When all is said and done however, I pop this record in and I just have a good time. It's catchy, it rocks, and the lyrics are relatable (if not now then certainly when I was a teenager). I used to be on the "Sell Out Bandwagon" a couple of years ago and griped about many a band going down that road. Now a days I try to just enjoy an album for what it is: music. If it's good it's good, if it's bad it's bad. I don't see the need to concern yourself with the agenda of the band or the crowd that follows them. If you're a pop-punk fan, go out and buy this album, or borrow it from a friend, and make up your own mind. You may really enjoy it. Okay lets get one thing straight, selling out isn't just changing your style. Selling out is changing your style with the sole purpose of making a profit. Well, i apologize to all you dedicated NFG fans whose panties get bunched up when someone calls your idols sell outs. But they fucking sold out. i think we have another case of blink 182icus damm that desiese is spreading This cd is one of the biggest dissapointments i can think of. I wasn't expecting a second "Nothing Gold Can Stay" but what i was expecting was something that could top it. If you can sit there and say they haven't change then your fuckin blind. How many other bands can you think of that puts giant full size color photos of their faces in the booklet? Are you fuckin kidding me? This cd is worse than shit ran over twice. how did NFG "abandon their hard rocking roots"? Have you even heard, Nothing Gold can stay? Obviously not because this comment is ridiculous. This Cd is great. The lyrics are cheesy but they were on the last Cd too. This is probably the most catchy band Ive ever heard. This CD is really good and just because theyre on MCA doesnt mean theyve sold out. Its about the music, not the freaking recording label theyre on. "nothing gold can stay" was alright but this is shit Stop saying these guys have "sold out." There sound on this cd isn't that much different from "Nothing Gold Can Stay." How is it that everyone who signs with a major record label is a sellout? You people are just mad that you thought you were cool because only you knew about a band and now a lot of people do and you're pissed off because of it. Grow up. This CD is pretty good i must say..."better off dead" absolutley rips it up. You have to give these guys credit though, with and average age of 19 They have came a long way in the few years they have been together. I don't care. thank you, at least some one here has some sense about them. i'll admit, nfg was pretty entertaining when i saw them,(which was way before this cd came out) but they are nowhere near the best. the crowd was made up mostly of 12 year old kids, although i will admit i had apretty good time kicking the crap out of them in the so called 'mosh pit. less than jake, millencollin, snapcase, voodoo glow skulls, all, flogging molly, STRUNG FUCKING OUT, No use for a name, they're all much, much better than nfg live. oh yes, i'm all for change, IF IT'S FOR THE BETTER! i use the cd booklet to this cd to wipe my physical-unabled grandfather's ass.- mark aka fathead Don't even joke about calling them the best live. If you think NFG is the best live band, then your really deprived of good shows. Go out, find your local scene, and check out as many shows as possible and go see any punk band that rolls through your town, Rancid, Sick of it all, Nofx, US Bombs, The Casualties, Agnostic Front, Guttermouth, Social D, AFI, Descendants,Pennywise, The Vandals, H20, Dropkick Murphys, heck even Green Day, the Offspring and so many god damn more. Just don't tell me NFG is the best live band out there. Mark(the reviewer), This cd is really good, I would for sure tell everyone to buy it cuz they have there own sound that appeals to everyone and if you are a bitch and whine that its not like nothing gold can stay then go buy that or saves the day. Quit bitching NFG is not sellout they are one of the best out there and possibly the best live. Many people like this album, and they don't care about them "selling out." They just listen to music for what it is. People change. Get over it. I'd heard a lot of hoop-lah about this band, so I decided to give them a listen. They are just plain horrible. How can anyone like this music? this CD is totaly opposite of the last one way too poppy. This a Great cd may not be better then there other one Nothing Gold Can Stay but still the cd kicks ass! there video new and old are great and if u dont like them then dont listin to them its as easy as that! by the way i can wait to see them when they open for blink its going to be tits times 89293287423 New Found Glory's new CD is terrible they can officialy be calleed sell out not for being played on MTV or recording for MCA but because they changed there sound to go with the main stream. id give it zero but you cant score it that low Whoa, this is the only negative review of this album I've seen. All the others I've seen on the internet are very positive. This is the only CD I have of NFG, so I don't know how they sound on past CDs, but I think it rocks. I like just about every song on it. did i call this one or what!-mark i dug their first cd a lot more than this. and what is up with rerecording the video for hit or miss, and rerecording the song? so fucked up. the frist video and sonfg were better. I like this band a lot, but when i saw them live they played all of the songs that i skip when i listen to their cd's. oh well. and they didnt fucking play 3rd and long. i just saw the video for hit or miss.there is a phrase for nfg, and it rhymes with fell doubts. Since the day I first heard the powerful melody of NFG's "Tell Tale Heart" I've been hooked. I saw a lot of potential on that album and was literally drooling to hear new material by the time the self-titled CD came out. Many will not agree with my view on this one, but I give this CD a 9.5 on a scale of 1-10, simply because as an entire album, there are few weak links, and I can listen to it endlessly and not become tired with it. Sure it's more melodic and poppy than most punk bands, but at the same time, it's hard, it rocks, and is catchy as hell. The CD starts out strong with Better Off Dead, then heads into the ever-catchy "Dressed to Kill" which is in my opinion one of NFG's best. I also disagree with the decision to re-record "Hit Or Miss." The older version had a more raw feel to it and the breakdown at the end just packed so much more punch than the "re-tooled" version. Other highlights on the CD for me were "Second To Last", "Eyesore", and "Vegas". The only weak links I thought were "All About Her" and "Sincerely Me." I thought this was an awesome album, but I too fear that within a short amount of time New Found Glory will be the next big punk band to hit MTV. I like almost all the songs. But the sound does seem to be moving more mainstream. But I still think they rock. |
